238. Owner and Slave. Slave and Owner.

“Kuhat! Marquis Millions. Very glad to see you. As fond as meeting for the first time in a while.”

“Demon… You little!”

Millions was at the estate of a count, in the lobby.

Receiving the message that Barub accepted the summons, he received him with a frown.

Millions and Barub. There was only a distance of 5m between them.

It seemed as though an intense fight would occur at any moment, accompanied by a vicious exchange of words.

With his back against a pillar and leaning back, Millions stared down Barub with disappointment, betrayal, and killing intent in his eyes.

Barub responded to Millions’ stare with mocking laughter and spoke.

“Many things have changed in such a short amount of time. Isn’t that so? Enough to flip Larkenta on its head.”

“Demon. I saw you as a colleague and not as a slave. You dare respond to my favor with this? To betray me and sully my name!”

“Demon… That’s right. That’s the name that you have given me. The name for the king of the festival and a slave whose life is decided by your words solely. The name you’ve given me so that I’d be your loyal dog!”

“…”

“It’s true that Demon is your slave and colleague. However, I am Demon no longer. I have obtained enough power to regain my true name. A name for someone who isn’t your colleague or your slave, but someone equal in strength.”

“Arrogant fool! How dare you bare your teeth against your master. Seems you have a death wish?”

“Kuhat! My name is Barub. The name of your enemy, not your slave. And it is the name of the one who will cruelly butcher you. Remember it well. Even as you die.”

“I did worry a bit that something like this would eventually happen. You did try to hide it, but I could see ambition far more passionate than any I have seen. However, you are foolish to think that you could overcome me no matter how much you struggle. And since you refuse to realize that, you will meet your death.”

“Millions. It seems you still do not understand the situation. I am disappointed.”

“You dare challenge me, a marquis, after defeating a few counts and stealing their artifacts? You imbecile.”

“Ah. Are you talking about these?”

Barub looked towards the golden armor and lightning sword equipped while speaking.

This was a behaviour frivolous to the point of being nonsensical for Millions to see.

After all, just a few hours ago the dog he had been raising had suddenly changed its attitude and started to attack its master in an attempt to bite him.

Even if Barub’s appearance had become clean and a new weapon adorned them, that did not change anything.

For Millions, it was laughably ridiculous how Barub was overestimating their own strength.

“Such an amusing item. It’s something amazing created by the ingenuity and creativity of humans.”

“You continue with arrogance as if you’re a god. Right now, you’ve barely become stronger than a count.”

“A god… it’s true that it won’t be long before it becomes a reality.”

“Seems you’ve lost your mind. I shall teach you well the consequences of barking at your owner without fear! Demon!”

“Seems this will be a fight for me to take back my name, Barub.”

“However, it seems that I have overestimated you.”

“Hm?”

“Seeing as you have come on your own without realizing your place, I have now realized that you have far less potential than I had originally thought.”

“Millions. Have you considered that it’s the other way around…”

“That won’t happen.”

Millions stopped leaning on the pillar and straightened up.

After that, he took off the cape on his shoulder and tossed it on the floor.

And with that, his form that had been hidden by his cape came into view.

Instead of casualwear, he had changed into armor meant for battle.

The silver armor looked plain without anything unique about it.

The appearance of the armor looked like something you could easily find in the markets, even the ones outside Larkenta’s castle.

That wasn’t the only odd thing out.

Millions did not have any weapons in his hands.

There was a possibility that he could create weapons using his powers, but he didn’t do that either.

As Millions moved, so did Barub prepare for battle.

There was a smile on Barub’s face, but he could not afford to relax.

This was the man who made Barub taste defeat for the first time.

Even though they had never bowed to anyone before, Millions had overwhelmed them with ease.

The trauma from being defeated by such overwhelming power wouldn’t be forgotten so easily.

And it wasn’t as if Barub had seen Millions fight with everything he has yet.

Fighting with someone without knowing how strong they are.

There wasn’t a fight more difficult than that.

Barub had obtained the power of a marquis by taking advantage of Min-Cheol, but there was a power gap even amongst the nobles.

This meant that even if the title of marquis was the same, not everyone had the same amount of power.

While probably a lot stronger than a count, considering 100 as the average amount of power a marquis has, some could hold 110 and others could hold 90.

No matter how many counts that Barub took down, if Millions had 110 while Keltar had 90, then they would not be able to avoid the fight becoming exceedingly difficult.

Without any weapons and fists clenched tightly, Millions shouted at Barub.

“Now! Come. I shall teach you proper manners!”

“Kuhat. With this, I should be getting a step closer to his strength. How entertaining.”

“If you’re going to stand there idly, then I shall come for you!”

Even considering the fact that the distance between them wasn’t that far, Millions’ attack came at Barub with speed and ferocity that was difficult to believe.

A fist aimed at Barub’s head charged in a blink of an eye.

For Barub however, who had obtained the power of a marquis, that attack didn’t feel that fast.

By tilting their head slightly, they had avoided Millions’ attack with ease.

And just like that, Millions’ fist struck thin air.

Despite the balance of his body had been completely lost, Millions paid no heed and prepared for the next attack.

While Barub was surprised by Millions’ strength, they could also not avoid being surprised by the power they held.

Even though they had obtained this power in an instant, Barub never had thought that the power of a marquis would be this strong.

With that, Barub was relieved that they didn’t fight against someone that monstrously strong on the first day of arriving in Hell.

If Barub had put up a pointless struggle earlier, then the bet with Min-Cheol would’ve ended easily in a pathetic fashion.

It was obvious that Barub would’ve not been able to touch a hair on Millions’ body with their old strength.

It happened as Barub believed that they could finally be on equal footing with Millions.

“Hm?”

“…”

Red blood dripped from Barub’s cheek.

There were many small cuts on their face, as if Barub had walked through a thorny underbrush.

Barub couldn’t help but question what had happened.

They had definitely avoided Millions’ attack without much difficulty.

However, there were wounds as if the blow had glanced Barub.

Wiping the blood on their cheek without much effort, Barub glared at Millions.

“There’s no way you’d know.”

“Is it an illusion?”

“An illusion? Didn’t use anything of the sort.”

“I’m sure I have avoided your attack. However… A sickly feeling remains.”

“By the time you understand what’s going on, you won’t be part of the living. Oraa!”

Millions, who had been simply throwing punches so far, suddenly spun his body to execute a horizontal jab.

The change in attack style was too fast to react to, and the attack struck dead on.

Barub had instinctively blocked the attack using the lightning sword and their forearm, but a massive shockwave followed.

The lightning sword Barub had obtained from the count disintegrated before it could be used even once.

It was so thoroughly destroyed that it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the sword had been ground to dust.

It wasn’t as if the sword had clashed against another sword, or the sword had made contact with armor.

Without even any gauntlets equipped, the sword had been shattered by Millions’ bare fist.

The damage didn’t stop at the sword.

It wasn’t just the sword that had blocked Millions’ fist.

The golden armor that encased Barub’s forearm also broke apart with ease.

It even penetrated the defensive capabilities of the grey light that Barub used to enhance their body.

The sound of Barub’s pained grunt followed by the sound of shattering bones rang throughout the lobby.

“Urgh!”

However, that didn’t last long.

It was hard to believe, but instead of groans, the sound of laughter came from Barub’s mouth.

“Kuhat! Kuhahahaha! You have an insane amount of strength, Millions.”

“Seems you have enough leisure still to be in awe.”

“It’s quite the fierce attack. Extremely powerful! It only makes things more exciting!”

“The only thing that will come out of your mouth next will be a long sigh. You won’t even be able to beg for your life. I won’t even leave you enough strength to do so. Just a sigh. The last breath you’ll draw in your life.”

“I look forward to it. Kuhahat!”

Barub kicked Millions, who was running like crazy towards Barub, in order to make space between them.

While flying through the air, Barub healed their crippled forearm in that short amount of time.

Same as the rest of them, Barub’s healing capabilities had increased to the point where it could not longer be compared to their previous self.

The situation was that if the healing didn’t work out as they had planned, Barub would’ve had to cut off their flailing tattered forearm in order to continue fighting.

However, Barub’s arm returned to its original form with great speed, as if a spell had been cast.

Twisting their wrist back into place and confirming that the arm had healed, Barub was all smiles.

It was the look of someone who had found enough amusement to last a lifetime.

This wasn’t a boring fight like all the butchering they had done with slaves and counts.

It was as if Barub had found the enjoyment that they had lost.

With that, Barub tossed the gauntlet still remaining on their other hand off.

Following that, Barub further increased the power of the enhancement to their body.

What Barub wanted was simple.

A fight based on pure strength.

A fight that did not rely on the help of swords or metal, but a clash of fists.

Seeing that, Millions found it laughable and smiled.

He had noticed Barub’s intentions.

“Aren’t you putting up a pointless struggle?”

“This is the fight I wanted. A simple, uncomplicated fight of raw power.”

“If that is what you desire, then I shall oblige. Go ahead and try getting your real name back.”

“Oraaaa!”

236. Blowing Your Nose on Rice That Has Finished Cooking

“Kuurk…”

“Don’t struggle. You’ll die anyway.”

“If you have the time to waste talking, finish him already!”

“Don’t command me. I do not listen to you. And I’m the oldest!”

“Damned if you’re the oldest.”

Keltar’s breathing was labored.

The destroyed lobby floor was being coated by his blood.

Not concerned by the situation, the first and second seemed busy arguing amongst themselves.

Min-Cheol and his clones pushed Keltar to the limit.

Because there was a massive gap in strength, all he could do was to endure.

He did all that he could to escape and look for a chance, but even that seemed impossible.

A chance to retaliate was out of the question, as there wasn’t even a gap he could see.

While he did dream of running away, the situation was that he was enclosed in 6 layers of barriers, unable to do anything.

The result of the fight was decided the moment it began.

From the moment that the sword aura made contact, the overwhelming difference in power was displayed.

It was just that Keltar had a hard time accepting that.

Until now, the only one above him was the Castellan Mithrael.

He naively believed that no one other than the castellan could make him submit or be overpowered by force.

Today, however, he had met a real adversary that could be described as an absolute being.

Min-Cheol, the clones, and Keltar looked at each other, on guard.

Min-Cheol thought of delivering the final strike, and Keltar also planned to gather all his remaining strength to proceed with a final attack.

They charged towards one another with the sound of debris falling from the ceiling announcing the start.

And like that, it happened as they came close to one another.

Keltar suddenly fell.

And as if a bullet had gone through his chest, there was a hole the size of an adult’s arm.

Something from behind Min-Cheol’s back had flew forward and struck dead center.

With Keltar’s death, Min-Cheol and his clones were shocked.

“Dead. We’re not the ones who killed him.”

“You idiot. Should’ve finished quickly!”

“Someone here. Hiding in the estate.”

“Damn it… Put in all the work only to have it be stolen. Search the premises. There is someone hiding in the estate!”

The person to deliver the killing blow to Keltar wasn’t Min-Cheol.

And it wasn’t the clones either.

Someone who had hidden inside the estate had waited for the perfect moment to strike.

It really was the equivalent of destroying something that someone had worked really hard for in an instant.

Like how magical energies worked, the Protector’s power in Hell goes to the one who reaps the target’s life.

It meant that no matter how much someone beat up their target, the one to take all the power was the person who dealt the finishing blow.

Min-Cheol and the clones were enraged, looking all over the place.

It was to find out the thug who hid with their breath held while looking for a chance, only dealing the last hit on Keltar.

You could say that this was an unearned income.

While it wasn’t technically cheating because they had dealt the killing blow, it was obvious to anyone that this method was ill-mannered and petty.

After all, they were stealing someone else’s hard work in an instant.

There was no way that they had traveled through 6 layers of barriers.

Min-Cheol thought to himself that the perpetrator had been hiding here some time after defeating Marquis Leon and before Marquis Keltar rushed here.

Min-Cheol and his clones spread out rapidly to began searching for the intruder.

It was then.

“Kuhat. It was such an amusing spectacle that I couldn’t leave and miss it.”

“…”

“I cannot understand. They’re fighting each other when they should be occupied searching after me.”

There was no need to locate the intruder.

A dark shadow slowly showed itself from the lobby’s ceiling.

He was a grey haired old man with a trained built body.

Min-Cheol could tell immediately who he was the moment he laid eyes on his face.

He was someone that not only Min-Cheol was looking for, but had become the target of every single noble in Larkenta.

Min-Cheol stared at him with a vexed expression while speaking.

That is, to Demon.

“Demon…”

“You’ve really prepared a nice meal. How could I show you my appreciation? Kuhat!”

“Got good at acting like a thug? You appeared here willingly when you should be running as fast as you can.”

“It seems you’re quite the entertaining one.”

“…”

“I partook in the Festival of Blood as Millions’ slave. The competition that is the obsession of the nobles here in Larkenta.”

“It’s a pretty famous festival, and I know that you’ve really made a name for yourself in it. The king of the festival. Demon.”

“Kuhat. The nobles sought to observe the festival by seeking the battlefield. Obviously the counts, but the marquises too. However… Out of the less than 10 marquises that exist, I have not seen your face.”

“…”

“The one I took the life from is Marquis Keltar. If you’re someone who could deal with a marquis as he was a child, then wouldn’t they be someone who has at least a title greater than that of a marquis? You could be the Castellan Mithrael. Or…”

“Someone from another world?”

“Kuhahat! So we meet like this.”

“I had my doubts, but it seems this is how it is. Barub. I thought that you had become so famous in Hell that you planned to enjoy a laid back life here.”

“Didn’t you come visit me in the Festival of Blood before?”

“I did, once. It was when I was beginning to suspect that you were Barub.”

“I knew it. I’m sure that my opponent was Jurassic at the time. While I was fighting him, I felt an intense killing intent. It wasn’t from Jurassic. It was someone from the crowd. It was the killing intent that you let out.”

“While I was tense, I don’t think I’ve let out my killing intent. Well, I guess I don’t have to go to the celestial plane because of how things have turned out. You’ll meet your end here, Barub.”

Min-Cheol planned to immediately fight Barub after the reveal.

After all, Min-Cheol was far stronger than Barub now.

It was true that there was nothing to gain from giving Barub more time.

However, Barub was not a fool.

And Barub had just witnessed Min-Cheol overpower Keltar.

Before this, Barub had only enough strength to defeat two or three counts at most.

But after a long wait, Barub was able to obtain a massive amount of power.

Barub had no plans to fight Min-Cheol as of now.

And on top of that, Barub was rather surprised just how strong Min-Cheol had become.

Barub had thought that the Festival of Blood was the only answer to become strong before, but now Min-Cheol was far stronger.

And Barub’s surprise didn’t end there.

It was a shocking revelation for Barub to see that Min-Cheol had the same idea of hunting down nobles.

Barub laughed heartily while speaking.

“Kuhahat. I see that you’re impatient as usual. Lowly human.”

“Let’s see how long you can keep talking like that. The only one to return to the celestial plane will be me!”

“I’ve already confirmed your strength with mine eyes. And you think I will still face you?”

“…”

“If the person I had murdered by tearing him apart wasn’t a count, this could’ve been rather troublesome”

“What…”

“It would be difficult for me to break through the barriers you have put up.”

Demon knocked on the barriers set up all around the lobby while speaking.

Demon was right.

These barriers have been set by Min-Cheol’s power.

And his clones had joined in the fray as well.

This meant that Barub could not escape using one’s own strength.

But the reason why Barub could be so bold was because of the Return Scroll.

Before coming here, where Min-Cheol was.

Barub had to wait for a very long time at a nearby estate to kill a single count.

The count that had been overwhelmed had decided to pick the last resort of fleeing.

And so one of the items that spilled out of the storage was a Return Scroll.

For Barub, it was extremely fortunate.

Before, Barub had no knowledge of artifacts and consumables, but this event had opened the eyes.

Painfully torturing the dying count, Barub forced him to pour out the countless artifacts within the storage.

Due to how large the size of the storage was, the amount of artifacts that poured out was just as much.

Of course, Barub was not interested in jewels or cores.

To Barub, they just looked like colorful rocks after all.

Not giving a second glance to magical orbs or skill scrolls, Barub’s focus was on the Return Scrolls, weapons, and defensive equipments.

It was an item that the count had tried to grab right before dying.

Anyone could tell that it’s purpose was to transport or at least used to aid in escaping.

Barub brought up a Return Scroll to Min-Cheol.

Confirming what Barub was holding up, Min-Cheol’s expression hardened further.

After all, he knew better than anyone what that bloodied, muddied, and half ripped scroll signified.

Min-Cheol gave a defeated smile.

No matter how fast he attacked Barub, there was no way that he could kill him in the short amount of time it would take to tear apart that scroll.

Barub continued to speak calmly, probably aware of that as well.

As if trying to make Min-Cheol collapse from the frustration, Barub mockingly continued.

“Kuhu. Seems I’ve received quite a big gift unexpectedly before my departure. I think with this much power, I should be able to aim not only for counts, but marquises as well.”

“Remember that feeling well. It’ll be the last bit of power you obtain.”

“Kuhat! We’ll see about that. There are still 19 days left before the return trip back to the celestial plane. That’s more than enough time to flip the tables completely.”

“It won’t go the way you plan.”

“Are you sure about that? As you have guessed, I have been hiding in the estate long before Marquis Keltar arrived.”

“…”

“There’s no way that I did not hear the conversation between you and the two people hiding in your storage.”

“You plan to sabotage my plans?”

“Am I not allowed to do so? You speak as if we’re allies.”

“Ah ah. I’ll apologize for that. Go ahead and try to ruin my plan. Even if you do, it won’t change the results.”

“Look forward to it, human.”

****

“Damn it!”

Min-Cheol couldn’t suppress his anger and swung his sword at where Barub had left.

The air around the tip of the sword distorted and a projectile bathed in blue light flew in all directions.

The thick pillars planted all over the lobby snapped like sugar canes when the projectiles made contact.

Not only was the plan going off its tracks with Barub’s appearance, but he had his catch stolen right before his own eyes.

Stopping his angry fit here could honestly be considered a demonstration of good self control considering what had happened.

Min-Cheol immediately opened the storage and summoned the two of them.

“We need to relocate.”

“Master, what is it?”

“I’ll explain the details later. Just think of it as a saboteur has joined the fray. Count Audu. We’ll continue the operation after moving to a new location.”

“I understand. After all, the location does not matter.”

With the interloping Barub’s appearance, the three relocated.

Since the nobles were going to be summoned by Audu’s summoning, it was true that the location does not matter.

And like that, the three of them settled in the remote mountains.

237. Demon to Barub

Immediately after meeting with Min-Cheol.

Tearing the Return Scroll, Barub returned to the estate of the noble he first visited.

After all, no one would go to an estate that had lost its master.

Barub had quite the satisfied smile.

It was to be expected, as Barub had gained the massive power of a marquis in an instant.

And it was obtained not through a difficult fight, but from dealing only the final blow after hiding quietly.

In a split second, Barub had obtained a massive amount of power that would’ve been difficult to acquire.

One could compare this situation to winning the lottery.

And Barub was now well aware of Min-Cheol’s plan.

Unaware of Barub’s presence, Barub had been able to overhear everything that Min-Cheol spoke with his compatriots.

This meant that Barub could completely sabotage Min-Cheol’s plan.

Ruling out the 2 dead marquises out of the 10, only 8 remained.

Among them was Barub’s previous owner, Millions.

Killing counts was no longer important in this bet between the two.

The deciding factor now was who obtained more power of the marquises, which was far greater than that of the counts.

“Karupedan. This world that conniving girl has created is quite bothersome.”

Barub continued to mutter for awhile as if carrying a conversation with someone, then sat on a chair, clenching and unclenching their hand repeatedly.

Barub continued to move their body, which seemed to not respond to their command entirely.

It was because Barub wasn’t fully used to the power that had suddenly flowed into them.

For Min-Cheol, from Swesi’s guard to the general, and from the counts to the marquises, he had gained power in increasing fashion to increase the amount of power he could handle.

Because of the dizziness and his body overheating when obtaining power for the first time, he had to even swallow the King’s Marbles.

However, Min-Cheol no longer had such a constitution.

Adapting to this world and to his capabilities, his body had evolved to match it.

Barub had consistently traveled with nothing but baggy clothes.

Focusing all of their power into increasing their bodily strength, they had no need for any special artifacts such as armor or weapons.

No. To be more precise, Barub never had felt the importance of artifacts.

Because they were a peerless existence and god, they carried enough power to easily ignore the benefits that artifacts provided.

The slaves participating the Festival of Blood were completely obsessed with obtaining better artifacts with the prize money obtained from the competition, but Barub was the exception.

One of the reasons that the crowd of the festival cheered Barub with fervor was because they fought without any equipment.

However, it was different now.

Barub was wearing a piece of armor that shone gold bright enough to blind, and had also obtained a blueish lightning sword as well.

Barub finally looked less like a god and more like an Awakened or a Protector.

They had obtained the armor and sword from the Mobile Storage of the count that had taught them what a Return Scroll was.

While the nobles almost had no cause to partake in actual combat, many of them were quite greedy for artifacts.

Rather than function, the nobles used the artifacts to flaunt.

This was probably only possible because the nobles cared about how they appeared to others more than anyone else.

5 sets of armor and 3 sets of swords had poured out of the count’s storage.

Each with different colors and shapes, anyone could tell that not only was care taken to make sure the equipment varied in functionality, but also appearances as well.

Barub equipped each of the defensive equipment that had spilled out.

No matter the wearer’s build and body type, these artifacts automatically shrunk or loosened to fit the wearer.

As expected of creations crafted by artisans, this was only possible because these items could be considered nearly sentient.

It was no surprise that Barub chose the equipment specialized for offense.

The armor and boots glowing gold, along with the gauntlet, all raised offensive capabilities.

Each of the defensive equipment raised attack power by 5%.

However, these stats were far lower than the artifacts that Dump had created.

Perhaps because these items were held by a count and not by a marquis, it seemed that the capabilities of the items were not the best.

On top of that, the sword also had an attack damage boost of 10%.

And its special ability could activate at a fixed rate, sending out an indefensible lightning attack.

The indispensable part here means that that attack has a 100% hit rate.

However, it was possible that the attack could be blocked by damage reduction and shields.

With this, Barub had obtained a 30% increase in attack power altogether.

For Barub, who had been fighting without anything, it was change that they had a hard time getting accustomed to.

Perhaps used to this after moving their body around for a long time, Barub sat up and muttered.

“After obtaining this power, the first to come to mind is that man. I’ve made you wait for quite a long time, Millions…”

Barub awkwardly moved their body to bring up their status window.

For Min-Cheol, who was an Awakened, opening his status window was used to distribute stat points with each level, when obtaining a new skill, or to check the effects of an artifact he obtained.

However, for the peerless existence that was Barub, there had never been a need to do so.

And the creation of Awakened or Protectors wasn’t by Barub’s hand.

Both had been created by Karupedan and the God of Death, Gera.

The only time Barub had seen how the message system worked was when Millions commanded Barub to learn how to use Soul Messenger and Summoning, and a few hours ago when Millions sent a request for Barub to be summoned.

It was a pathetic plan, but Barub brought up the Summon Message that Millions had sent.

-Will you accept Millions’ summons?

-Location. Castle Larkenta. (Coordinates 110:448)

“If you want to see me that badly, then I’ll have to show up. Kuhahat!”

Barub accepted Millions’ summons.

After all, they had obtained enough power to no longer be on the backfoot against Millions.

Barub had lived a countless amount of years.

However, the only memory of defeat in their mind was at the hands of Millions.

It was the first day of arriving in Hell that Barub had been smashed into the ground, suffering an embarrassing defeat.

Barub remembered that day when they could not even squirm, forced to submit to Millions’ strength.

Reminiscing the day, Barub unknowingly grinded their teeth.

The moment that Barub accepted the request for summons, the message’s coordinates changed in an instant.

Perhaps because Millions had switched to to a new location since the moment of request, the coordinates now pointed at Millions’ new coordinates.

-Changed location. Castle Larkenta. (Coordinates 180:51)

The air warped in an instant and Barub headed through to where Millions was.

****

“Seems this is a fine location here.”

“Master. Isn’t this the middle of the hunting grounds?”

“That’s right. I’m sure that the number of people traversing through a pitch dark night in the middle of the 8th rank hunting grounds are few at most.”

“Well, it seems like this is a good place to begin the operation.”

“Count Audu. Can you begin summoning the marquises again?”

“Understood.”

Min-Cheol and his group positioned themselves at the base of the mountains located within the 8th tier hunting grounds.

Losing the marquises power a moment ago to Barub was a huge loss.

The reason for changing the location was to make sure that it wouldn’t happen again.

Because they had arrived here by tearing apart a scroll, there was a very low chance that Barub would come here.

Min-Cheol summoned his clones to clear out the monsters nearby.

While that was happening, Audu was working on setting up the next target.

It didn’t take long for a marquis to be summoned here.

He did not take kindly to Min-Cheol, who was there instead of the king in the Festival of Blood, Demon.

Without pleasantries or explanations, Min-Cheol began a brutal attack with his clones.

It seemed as though the pace of the fighting had picked up severely.

Because he had lost his prey just before, he wasn’t holding back anything and pressing with everything he had.

As expected, the winner was decided quickly.

The marquis lost his life, and Min-Cheol completely absorbed his power.

Massive shockwaves and tremors filled the nearby area, but this was the hunting grounds.

No one would be suspicious, and there was no way that anyone would come to the base of the mountains so out of the way.

Min-Cheol and his clones quickly performed a bit of maintenance and pushed Audu to hurry with the next prey.

Since the plan had been exposed to Barub, Min-Cheol did not want any hurdles to come up in his plan from unnecessary delays.

“Count Audu. Let’s speed things up.”

“Huh?”

“Please call 2 at a time now. There are only 7 left. 2, 2, and then 3 please.”

“A-Are you sure about that? Your opponents are marquises after all…”

“No issues.”

“If that’s what you want, then I shall do so.”

“Yes, please do.”

Audu quickly sent a Soul Message to someone.

While it was unfortunate that he could not contact multiple people at the same time, Audu was going as fast as he could.

However, Min-Cheol could tell that the contents of the conversation was different from before.

Audu’s expression hardened quickly, and his pupils shook with worry as if unsure of what to do.

However, it didn’t seem to Min-Cheol that he was up to something fishy behind his back.

Min-Cheol immediately asked the moment that Audu’s message spell finished.

“What’s going on? Your expression doesn’t seem that good.”

“It’s a huge problem. The plan has gone awry.”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“It seems that someone has spread rumors of our plan.”

Dan and Audu had no idea of Barub’s appearance, because they had stayed inside of Min-Cheol’s storage the entire time.

It was obvious, since they were waiting in a space completely isolated from the outside.

Min-Cheol immediately thought of Barub’s face.

The only ones to know about the plan were Dan, Audu and Barub after all.

While Min-Cheol knew that Barub would disrupt the plan to some degree, he did not expect for Barub to cause this much trouble for his plans in such a short amount of time.

Audu continued speaking while beads of cold sweat ran down his face.

“The person I contacted is Marquis Servant. He and I were quite close.”

“…”

“Marquis Servant knew everything about our plan. He even knew how and by who Leon, Keltar, and the marquis that just arrived here, Luper, died to.”

“Damn it… Barub.”

“Huh? Barub? Are you telling me that someone else other than the three of us know of this plan? Regardless, it seems that things have become a lot more difficult…”

That was right.

Returning to the estate of the count, Barub wasn’t just muttering to themself.

While trying to get used to the newfound power by moving around their body, Barub had contacted the marquises that they had learned by both face and name back from the Festival of Blood in order to spread the news.

For Min-Cheol, it was as if he had been struck at the back of his twice.

Despite attempting to contact the other marquises after the initial failure, the situation was the same.

Aware of Min-Cheol’s plan, none of the marquises were receiving Audu’s summons.

“What should we do?”

“It’s obvious that this situation isn’t good. However, it’s not that dire if we change our perspective a bit.”

“Huh?”

“If we consider that I’ve been fed prey this entire time… Now I’m just starting the hunt for real. Now is when I’ve changed from prey to a predator.”

“…”

“Now I shall be hunting with my life on the line. My storage is no longer safe. I will be contacting you two both later.”

Min-Cheol’s eyes were filled with killing intent, and neither Audu or Dan asked any further after seeing that.

Perhaps with his heart hardened, he spoke to the two in a cold tone and immediately left.

235. Nice to Meet You. This Is the Train to Hell.

“Sir Marquis Keltar. It’s Audu.”

“Oho! Count Audu. To think that you have contacted me first. What is it?”

“It’s just that… I have contacted you because Demon has appeared near my home.”

“What? Is that true? Are you positive that it’s Demon, the slave from the festival?”

“Yes. That is the case.”

“Ahah! My my. It seems things are okay for now since you were able to contact me.”

“Fortunately Demon hasn’t noticed me yet, but time is short. Could you please lend me aid?”

“Ahem… I can take care of Demon for you, but there is one issue.”

“It’s the reward that Castellan Mithrael put out, right?”

“Ahem! Well, how could I bring that up on my own? Our friendship isn’t just a day old.”

“Of course, I am well aware. That’s why I am requesting you, sir marquis.”

“Then how shall we settle this?”

“The credit for defeating Demon will be yours.”

“Hohoho! Now, now. I’m not obliging your request just because of the reward. Please think of it as me appreciating our friendship and my respect towards you.”

“I understand. Then I shall send the summoning request at once.”

“Hoho. Please do so immediately! And you haven’t contacted any other marquises, right?”

“You need not ask. I have only contacted you, sir Marquis Keltar.”

“Kuhohoho! My friend. As expected! Then send me the summoning request immediately.”

“Yes.”

As expected, this nobleman did not suspect anything of Audu’s request for summons.

Anyone could tell from the contents of the Soul Messenger that the nobles were rather crafty.

They only acted for their own benefit, and were irrefutably lazy.

The nobles didn’t have much interest in anything else, not even blinking an eye towards disasters with human casualties.

Anyone could tell from how they only explored the first 10 ranks of the hunting grounds and went about partaking in entertainment instead.

While it was only a short conversation, the marquis flicked his dirty tongue while thinking about how he would satiate his ambitions.

The nobles of this nation were corrupt as they could be.

Ironically this was aiding Min-Cheol’s plan that Audu agreed to.

As Audu had said, Larkenta’s Castellan Mithrael had put a huge bounty on the king of the Festival of Blood, Demon.

The reward was big enough for not only the counts, but the marquises to drool over.

And if Audu, who the nobles have no reason to be suspicious of, offered a bit of enticing information, it was without a doubt that the nobles would accept the summon 100%.

While Min-Cheol wasn’t able to hear what Keltar was saying, he was pleased at what Audu was saying using Soul Messenger.

Opening up the Mobile Storage, all Min-Cheol now had to do was wait for Marquis Keltar to respond.

It was because the moment that the marquis arrived accepting the summon request, Dan and Audu had to enter the safety of the storage and wait it out.

While they were waiting for Keltar to arrive, Min-Cheol asked Audu a question.

It was about how strong Castellan Mithrael was.

“Count Audu.”

“Yes. Go ahead.”

“How strong is the castellan?”

“Hm… No idea. I don’t think there is anyone in Larkenta that knows for sure.”

“Is that so?”

“It’s because no one tried to fight against the castellan. And he also hasn’t once moved to strike down monsters before either. Because of that, it can’t be helped that no one has witnessed his power.”

“Didn’t I tell you already before, master? I told you that Mithrael is hidden under a veil of secrecy.”

“Yeah, I did ask you the same question before. But you can’t be sure. Count Audu is closer to the castellan than you are.”

“No matter how close you are to the castellan, it’s pointless. Do you think it’s easy to have such a massive network of information as I do in Larkenta?”

Dan rolled his eyes as if saddened and even mumbled at the end, accompanied by grumbling.

Dan probably thought that Min-Cheol had asked Audu as well because Min-Cheol couldn’t trust him.

Well, after defeating Swesi, it was only with the help of allies that he was able to come this far in Larkenta.

It was the same case back on Earth and the demonic realm.

Many people, monsters, and a god helped Min-Cheol, and he was able to stand here because he had obtained their aid.

Min-Cheol knew their hard work better than anyone.

He sort of squeezed out a thank you to Dan, who was downtrodden as he headed into the storage.

“Well, who else would I listen to other than the words of my right hand man? Head on in.”

“Well, if you say it that way… Yes! Right hand man, Dan! Heading in!”

Brightening up from a single exchange, Dan headed into the storage with light steps.

Audu planned to wait next to Min-Cheol until the summon was finished.

If he entered the storage, then the target summon Keltar would not be able to come here.

Similar to how Millions wasn’t able to travel through, summoning was not possible when the target wasn’t in the same dimension, inside the storage, or lost their life.

The biggest problem for Min-Cheol right now was that he wasn’t able to tell just how strong the castellan was.

Considering that, Min-Cheol had two choices.

The first choice was to defeat all the nobles before putting the castellan to the sword.

However, this method meant that Min-Cheol would have to take on a great amount of risk.

Since he couldn’t tell how strong his opponent was, fighting against the castellan meant that he would not be able to guarantee victory.

One could think that there was no way the castellan would be stronger than all the nobles combined.

Realistically speaking, it was probably not possible.

There’s a saying that a popular party has nothing to eat. There was a high chance that the rumors were exaggerated and he did not have such a massive amount of power.

However, on the off chance that the castellan’s power was far greater than what could’ve been imagined, then it would be a huge upset.

This method was risky, and as expected, Min-Cheol didn’t approve.

The second option was to kill all the nobles other than the castellan, then return to the celestial plane.

As long as Min-Cheol didn’t get caught by the castellan due to bad luck, this plan was relatively safe.

Min-Cheol wouldn’t have to make a risky bet, and it was far safer than the first option.

Returning back to the celestial plane and winning against Barub meant that Min-Cheol would rise to godhood.

Not a half human half god, also known as a demigod, but a real full fledged god instead.

If he became an absolute being, then it wouldn’t be difficult for Min-Cheol to do as he pleased with such a tiny dimension created by Karupedan.

He could defeat Castellan Mithrael any time after that.

The problem with this plan meant that Min-Cheol had to hide for the 19 remaining days, and he had no idea what the castellan would do during that time.

However, ignoring that one bit, it wouldn’t be too difficult.

Knowing Min-Cheol’s personality though, it was unlikely that he would just leave Mithrael to rampage.

Thinking about this and that, not 5 minutes had passed before Audu opened his mouth.

“Marquis Keltar has accepted the summons.”

“Please hurry in then. I shall take care of the situation after.”

“Then…”

The sound of the Mobile Storage closing and Keltar’s arrival overlapped each other.

Immediately after Audu had completely hidden himself had the marquis appeared before Min-Cheol.

Keltar was fully equipped.

Despite his intention to defeat Demon, who was far weaker than him, he had prepared decently since it was going to be a battle after all.

There was no longer a need to summon Dan to confirm any faces like before.

After all, there was no way anyone else could accept a summon other than the one who was requested to appear.

What if Audu had betrayed Min-Cheol and requested aid from the castellan?

There was no need to worry about such a thing.

The castellan was stronger than anyone else. It was uncertain if even Min-Cheol could handle him.

The difference in strength would lead to Min-Cheol’s defeat.

However, right now Audu was inside Min-Cheol’s Mobile Storage.

As explained beforehand, the storage would be removed from existence if the caster died.

Other than the original owner, there was no one who could pull any items from the storage or even open it in the first place.

Seeing that Audu went inside the storage with his own two legs despite knowing this information, it was evident that the target to summon couldn’t have been the castellan.

Looking around the lobby for a brief moment, Keltar misinterpreted Min-Cheol as Audu’s servant and asked.

“Audu… To think that he would call me and then leave… I am here on Audu’s request. Where is your owner? Well, that isn’t important. Demon… Where is Demon?”

“So sorry to say. Demon isn’t here. On top of that, Count Audu isn’t here either.”

“How dare a servant address a marquis without honorifics. Do you not value your life?”

“Keltar. That’s you, right?”

“You really have a lot of gall. I will consider receiving payment from Audu to have your life be spared. Though I highly doubt you’d be worth more than a single core.”

“My life is quite pricey. I think you’ve miscalculated the cost?”

“Pay for your mistake with your life!”

Keltar took the whip hung on his shoulder and swung it down on the ground.

The floor where the whip struck was sunk in, almost as if a bomb had gone off.

The whipping was on a completely different level than what one would see in a movie or in a drama show.

It wouldn’t stop just at tearing the skin or tearing off a limb.

If a regular person rather than a Protector took that strike, they would probably perish into a red mist.

However, there was no reason for Min-Cheol to be afraid.

He had already taken the lives of many counts to accumulate power, and had recently obtained Marquis Leon’s power just a bit ago.

Not only that, but Min-Cheol had clones that increased his combat strength like no other method could.

Seeing Keltar swinging his whip to threaten Min-Cheol almost looked adorable at this point.

“I shall ask you again. Where is Audu? It seems that even your body has been frozen due to the fear. Are you finally regretting your mistake? But it’s too late. Even if you answer me now, I do not have the slightest intentions to let you live.”

“I don’t know the number of passengers on the train ride to Hell. For now, put on your seatbelt. It probably won’t save your life though.”

“Seems you’ve lost your mind. To think that such a humiliating day would come…”

“These are the stewards who will help you on your journey to Hell.”

“You. Do not like how you look. Kill.”

“Idiot. Don’t move without being ordered to. How is someone like you my clone?”

“Personality similar to that. No fault of mine.”

“Whew… Guess it can’t be helped.”

“Am I who you’re referring to? And why do you, the second oldest, look at me with such disappointment? Can’t relax with the clones around. Enough! Let’s focus on work first. The target is in front of you. I don’t think I need to elaborate?”

“Destroy.”

“Kill”

“Quite the bullshiting. Argh!”

And so the fight with a predetermined winner started.

Unaware, Keltar charged at Min-Cheol and his clones like a moth to a flame.

However, the fact that someone uninvited to the fight was present was something no one at the estate noticed.

234. Forced Summoning (2)

After the situation was taken care of, Min-Cheol recalled his clones.

The clones performed maintenance on their gear and cleaned the blood off their bodies before disappearing.

It was enough to make Min-Cheol wonder what would have happened without them.

After that, Min-Cheol contacted Dan, who was on standby on the roof of one of the structures near the main building.

It was to tell him to come inside the mansion because the counts and marquis had been taken care of.

It didn’t take long before Dan carefully opened the door of the mansion and came in.

Dan lowered his body and looked around all over the place, similar to a scene in a spy movie.

Entering the lobby, Dan spoke in a whisper.

“Master. No one has followed me. Has the situation been sorted properly?”

“Mhm. As you can see, it has been taken care of without any loose ends.”

“Hm… I see. I’m glad that it’s been sorted without injury.”

“Why does your expression not match what you’re saying?”

“Ah, it’s nothing.”

“Is it because of Count Audu?”

“Ah, well. Since it was a dire situation, I guess it couldn’t have been helped.”

“I’ve already said this before. That kind of excuse is what the weak say.”

“Huh? Then…”

Min-Cheol opened his Mobile Storage immediately, then commanded Audu’s release.

Audu, who had been curled up in the corner of the storage was forcefully ejected in an instant outwards.

His look of confusion only confirmed that he still hadn’t grasped the situation.

Taking the center of the lobby, Audu looked around his surroundings before asking Min-Cheol a question.

“What is the meaning of this? And what happened? Why did you throw me into the storage…”

“I apologize for being rude without explanation.”

“Count Audu, please do not take offense. All of this was a plan that my master thought up for your sake, count.”

“By the way, did the counts and Marquis Leon leave?”

“That’s… Master.”

“I shall inform you myself. They are all dead.”

“Huh? You’re quite rude despite this being our first time meeting! I can forgive you for not revealing your identity and being rude. However! Don’t you know that those types of jokes are distasteful?”

“Listen well. Count Audu. I am not here to have a banter with you. I know I’m repeating myself, but they are dead.”

“T-That can’t be…”

“On top of that, I was the one to kill them. Now that you understand, I’m guessing that you are curious as to why only you were spared?”

“…”

“Dan. Can you bring those to me?”

“Yes, master.”

Min-Cheol asked Dan to bring the accounting book containing information regarding business with Swesi.

Dan immediately began to pick up the pages sprawled out all over the floor one by one and brought them to Min-Cheol.

Dan then organized the sheets crinkled from being stepped on and splattered with blood before handing them over.

Min-Cheol stretched out his arm to bring it in front of Audu’s face.

Receiving the accounting book pages, he stared at it for a while before opening his mouth.

“Is this… This is the reason why you took their lives, all nine of them?”

“Yes. That’s right. The reason why you are still alive is because the name Audu wasn’t present in this accounting book.”

“…”

“I am also aware that this accounting book isn’t the perfect tool to decide who is righteous and evil. I only know that you didn’t trade with Swesi, and it does not guarantee that you haven’t gone around doing other wrongdoings.”

“They had families they loved and things to protect too.”

“I know. But aren’t you also aware that their continued existence would cause further victims and deaths? I don’t like to say this, but I’m sure you can see that this is a case of sacrificing the few for the many.”

“…”

“However, you’re quite calm despite the death of your acquaintances.”

“It’s because I did expect this to happen at some point. Even if you didn’t, I knew that someone else would judge them eventually.”

Audu was far calmer than Min-Cheol had expected.

This was something that even Min-Cheol did not expect.

Right now, Min-Cheol wasn’t trying to convince Audu.

Simply put, what Min-Cheol was saying wasn’t something along the lines of these are reasons why I killed them and you must understand my actions because I was justified in doing so.

There was no reason to do so.

It wasn’t as if Min-Cheol had committed wrongdoings to Audu directly, and had let him live instead because he wasn’t listen on the accounting book.

The reason why he was thoroughly explaining to Audu was because he wanted ask something of Audu.

After all, he needed to convert Audu to his side in order to make sure that his plan could be carried out smoothly.

Audu did not refute or doubt what Min-Cheol had done.

Was it because Min-Cheol had enough strength to not only defeat counts, but marquises with ease as well?

That wasn’t the case.

This wasn’t an act in order for him to get out of this situation safely and preserve his life.

It was due to how he felt that his ideals that he could not back up with actions was oddly similar to what Min-Cheol had done.

It seemed that he was trying escape his guilt of looking away when his acquaintances committed evil through what Min-Cheol had done.

Understanding his thoughts, Min-Cheol spoke to Audu.

“Audu. I’ll need you to help me.”

“Huh? Me?”

“Yes. The reason why you’ve been spared. I guess you can think of it as a way to prove that your name not being written in this accounting book wasn’t the only reason for that.”

“What do you mean?”

“First, I shall tell you my goal. I am going to kill everyone in this accounting book.”

“Please continue.”

“If it is possible, I am also planning to take down Demon, who is rampaging at Larkenta’s castle. While Demon seeks the power of the nobles, we don’t know if innocents would be in harm’s way if this goes on. However, I don’t have much time left. Not even a full 20 days.”

“…”

“That’s why I need you to be on my side.”

“The reason being?”

“The nobles of Larkenta would believe your words.”

“You mean… Are you asking me to be a spy to deceive the nobles?”

“Simply put, yes. I need you to bring them to me.”

“…”

“I shall give a bit of time. Think carefully. Decide if they are really needed for the future of Larkenta.”

“…”

After the conversation ended, Min-Cheol reopened his Mobile Storage.

Audu walked into the storage on his own.

It must be that he was deep in thought.

The door to the storage closed, and Dan came up to Min-Cheol with his query.

“Master. What are you planning?”

“I thought about it, you know? You said that summoning someone through Soul Messenger can be done by knowing the target’s face and name alone, right?”

“Yes. That’s correct.”

“I was planning to contact the nobles with the bait of Demon’s location to chip them down.”

“Yes, but what’s the issue?”

“But the nobles aren’t stupid and they wouldn’t just accept my summons, right? Even if they do accept it, it’s obvious that they would be suspicious. That means that they could come in far greater numbers.”

“So you’re saying that you’ll be using Count Audu for this?”

“That’s right. If he is someone that is liked by all the citizens of Larkenta, it’s likely that he is also popular amongst the nobles. There may be those who are jealous of him or find him stubborn though.”

“I think the plan is very solid. However, for them to respond to the summon means that they will be facing death very soon after, right? Do you think that Audu, who had been with the nobles for a very long period time, can betray them? And if Count Auru alerts the nobles to the truth by deceiving us, wouldn’t the situation become really bad for us?”

“Yep. He can do it. I noticed that his ideals are the same as mine. And even if he tries to deceive us, we have the scrolls. We’ll just have to run.”

“Hm…”

Dan thought that just like how Min-Cheol gave him a chance, Min-Cheol was now giving Audu as chance as well.

Dan, who was originally a member of Swesi, had been kidnapped by Min-Cheol’s overwhelming strength.

He was lucky that he had been chosen, otherwise, he would’ve shared the fate of his allies of being annihilated without a trace from the many Meteors and Icebergs.

It was true that he didn’t see the wrongdoings of the nobles as evil and didn’t have the slightest desire to change the world at the start.

He should be thanking his lucky stars for being taken in by Min-Cheol, living with a slightly better sense of morality due to his meeting with Min-Cheol.

On the other hand, look at Audu.

Despite a short conversation with Min-Cheol, it was easy to see that he viewed the way the world worked with disapproval.

He even felt regret for not being able to stop the wrongdoings the nobles committed.

And he was also aware that him alone living a righteous life would not change this world.

From Audu’s point of view, this was why he could see Min-Cheol’s existence as a hero who was here to completely change this world.

A short yet long 20 minutes had passed, and Min-Cheol opened his storage once more.

“Count Audu. Have you come to a conclusion?”

“Yes. I have decided.”

“Let’s continue the conversation outside. Let out the count from the storage.”

Coming out, Audu’s expression was far more darker than before.

He wasn’t able to meet Min-Cheol’s eyes and only stared at the ground.

Dan was quite nervous because of the change in Audu’s behavior.

He was worried that the Audu would not help Min-Cheol and instead turn his back.

However, this wasn’t the case for Min-Cheol.

He believed that Audu would definitely assist him in changing the world anew.

An unknown amount of time passed. Audu opened his mouth to speak with a struggle.

“I shall aid you.”

“Sir count! Really? Are you really going to help master?”

“It must’ve been a tough decision. I thank you.”

“What must I do?”

“First, we’re going to bring the nobles here using Demon as bait. It doesn’t matter how many if it only involves the counts, but it’s a bit of an issue if marquises get involved.”

“Hm… It looks like you can face up to 3 at the most, master.”

“I see…”

“But I do not know if the nobles will respond so readily. They are upset that Demon has killed their slaves and knights, but…”

“You need not worry if that’s the issue. Right now, the nobles of Larkenta are trying to kill Demon with everything on the line.”

“…”

“The Castellan Mithrael has put a massive bounty on Demon’s head. The sweet promise of rising in rank.”

“So that’s why even a marquis has gotten involved trying to catch such a small fry.”

“That’s right. If we use Demon’s location as bait, the nobles will definitely bite.”

“That’s good. Then let’s not waste any time and start right away.”

“Master. If we’re going to start, let’s start with the marquises. I believe it would be more convenient for you rather than to deal with the counts, who will be moving in groups. And since there is a massive power gap due to how much power you possess, you should be able to stay miles ahead in terms of combat strength.”

“Is that alright with you, Count Audu?”

“Yes… I shall try contacting one right now.”

“Good.”

Audu acted as Min-Cheol had hoped for.

There was no longer a need for Min-Cheol to go hopping from one estate to the other to seek where the nobles were hiding.

All he had to do was to devour each of those accepting Audu’s summons.

Dan stood the side, opening up the accounting book to inform who to summon next, announcing the start of the perfect plan to grow stronger at an unreasonable speed.

“I guess all I have to do now is to wait under the tree for the persimmons to fall?”

Previous Chapter|Index|Next Chapter

210. This Is Only the Beginning

“Swesi is the sole organization that has been allowed to perform illegal acts in Larkenta.”

“Is it the doing of the castellan? Well, it’s obvious that no one else but the castellan can give permission for something like this.”

“That’s correct. However, for what reason drove you to do something crazy as making Swesi your enemy…”

“Did you already forget your role in this? You are to only answer my questions. This is your last warning.”

“Ah… Yes. Sorry.”

This person was obedient to the point of suspicion.

Until just a few minutes ago, this officer was yelling at the guards.

However, after kneeling at the sight over brute strength, the officer was answering any question I asked like a vending machine spilling out its contents.

It seemed that this person was your stereotypical subservient to the strong, but harsh to the weak.

While it was a natural instinct of animals to obey the strong, humans could make the choice.

It was obvious that this officer having this personality would be extremely beneficial to me.

I asked about their numbers and the strength of their generals.

“That place that the guards were protecting is your headquarters, right?”

“Yes. That’s correct.”

“In total, how many of you are there?”

“Huh? Are you asking about how many people make up the organization? Let’s see. Around 300 or so.”

“You’re telling me that there are 300 besides the guards?”

“No. The number includes 140 guards that I am also a part of. Due to the castle being located in the center of the 7th tier hunting grounds, there are quite a lot of guards needed.”

“So you’re telling me that there are about 140 members left.”

“Huh? Why aren’t you counting the guard group?”

A quick punch.

“Ugh…”

“This time, the control on my output of strength was perfect. I’m slowly getting used to it. Since you’ve paid the price, I’ll answer you. The 140 guard regiment you mentioned. You’re the only one left.”

“Huh… That means…”

“Next question. How strong are the generals inside? My guess is that they cannot be compared to the strength of the guards.”

A blank look appeared unlike before I told this guard captain officer that every guard in his regiment had perished.

And it seemed that this officer finally understood how serious this situation was and that if my questions weren’t answered properly, the fate that befell the guards would also come.

Only after hearing the answer to the question could I finally see desperation and sincerity behind the replies, almost as if begging to be spared.

“That’s correct. When joining the Swesi organization, the first place you’d end up would be to become part of the guards. Only after hunting monsters for 2 to 3 years daily would you be recognized as a member. However, it’s not like you can quit halfway because it is too difficult. Through overseers like me, every action the guards take are reported to the higher ups, and anyone who tries anything disappears without anyone even realizing they are gone.”

“So how strong are the generals? Since you can’t describe them with numerics, make it easily understandable by explaining it in hunting terms.”

“Firstly, I, the guard captain, and the product overseers have very poor combat capabilities. We work using our heads instead of our bodies. However, that is not the case at all if you’re talking about the hunters and the highest ranking generals.”

“Product overseer… The name of that title is revolting. I assume that the products are women and Protectors, right?”

“That’s correct. To explain starting from the bottom, about 40 hunters are present. To be frank, they are the ones who take the goods and bring it back.”

“How strong are they?”

“Their strengths vary even within that grouping, but most of them have enough combat capabilities to hunt easily in the unexplored territories. They can easily gather around 30 to 40 of the monsters and take them down at once with ease.”

“Not bad. Around 1 hour ago, they would’ve been tough to deal with.”

As expected, the man who went in and out of the castle after arriving on a carriage that was made with magic was a hunter in the Swesi organization.

Sensing his presence and delaying the plan for a bit was a fantastic choice.

With how strong I was back then, I wouldn’t have been able to avoid a drawn out fight.

I say back then, but that was less than an hour ago, perhaps minutes.

I already have emphasized this a lot, but annihilating all the guards in one clean sweep was the most solid preparation I could’ve done for the next stage of my plan.

Listening to what this person was telling me, each of the hunters was as strong as me before I had wiped out the guards.

I even had the suspicion that each of them was stronger than I.

However, that was definitely no longer the case.

I had become more than two times stronger than before.

That didn’t mean that I was limited to fighting a hunter 2 versus one.

This meant that if I was able to group them up and pour attacks down on them, I would be able to cleanly wipe them out even if there are 40 or 50 of them.

It was because now I was capable of attacks that would easily shred through their defensive capabilities.

However, I did not know how it would turn out if I gave them the opportunity to retaliate.

“Good. Now how many are in the product overseer group that you mentioned before? Do they also carry a significant amount of power?”

“That is not the case. They are the same as the guards. All they do is oversee the new Protectors who just gained their powers and the maidens.”

“How many of them are there?”

“At least 60.”

“So there are 160 members left. Out of those, the weaker hunters and the product overseers consist of a 100 or so… The remaining are 60-ish. But something seems more off the more you explain though?”

“…”

“Didn’t you say that after 2 to 3 years of guard work, they become recognized and are able to take on a new position?”

“That’s correct.”

“Even if there is an error in calculation in between the process, at least 100 or so should be graduating each year, but you’re telling me that the total number of members only comes up to 300? Isn’t this too much of a difference? From what I know, this group has been doing this for over 10 years now.”

“Ah… That’s simple. It’s because they’re sold to the nobles as well. More accurately, rather than being sold, they are being chosen.”

“Hm?”

“They cannot stand a chance against you, Protector sir, but don’t you think that the guards still carry quite a lot of power? They can defeat monsters from the 7th tier hunting grounds with ease after all. That means that they really don’t need to join Swesu and can hunt in order to live a life that is more than luxurious. But why do you think people like that are trying to enter Swesi? It’s because they want to be bodyguards for the nobles or knights for the castle.”

“It sounds like Swesi serves as some kind of a training facility as well.”

“That’s correct. As you’ve mentioned before, do you think that the number of Protectors produced in over the last decade is but a few? Most of the bodyguards of the nobles are those who’ve entered Swesi at some point. It is all to obtain wealth, fame, and political power.”

“Damned bastards hailing from a damned organization into a more damned world… Enough of that. Explain to me about the remaining 60.”

“Yes. I’ve noticed that you are curious about the number of strong members in the Swesi organization…”

“Continue.”

“If my presumption is correct, the only members you have to watch out for are five of them. I do not know how much growth they’ve achieved after being chosen by the nobles, but if you disregard the castellan and any nobles above the rank of count that has ties to Swesi, then you only have to worry about the five of them currently inside the main headquarters of Swesi.”

“One must be the head of the organization, and I assume the rest must be pretty high ranking officers as well?”

“Yes, that’s correct.”

“How strong are they?”

“I dare not try explaining it in terms of hunting… To put it as simply as possible, I believe they are at least as strong as a marquis.”

“The strength of all five of them combined is that of a marquis… I won’t know how strong that is unless I know how strong a marquis is. Can’t you explain it in more simple terms?”

“I do not know how strong you are, Protector sir…”

“Enough to group up about 40 hunters and kill them all. Is this enough for you to get an idea?”

“Yes. Even with that much, it still won’t be enough. Maybe if you’re able to fight the 5 of them one by one.”

“This organization is a lot stronger than I had expected.”

“The castellan didn’t recognize this place just for show.”

I was able to get a rough estimate of how strong they were.

I’ve learned that the organization was huge and they were strong, but also that beating these opponents wasn’t impossible.

As long as I didn’t charge in headfirst, there was a chance that I could win.

However, I didn’t know how Swesi would react to losing more than half their members.

My next question addressed the reason why I targeted Swesi in the first place, and it was about the captured daughter of Dump, Berlette.

I asked about what they do to the people they’ve kidnapped that they refer to as products.

“Next question. What happens to all the people that are kidnapped? The people you refer to as products.”

“The young maidens and Protectors are treated differently. Firstly, the maidens…”

“Stop. I’ll change the question. Let’s keep this simple.”

“Yes, yes…”

“I have two people I need to rescue. Both of them have been captured by Swesi, with one being captured 10 years ago, and the other only 3 days ago. Tell me a way.”

“Sigh… It’s quite the difficult question.”

“Right? Don’t you think that I’ve been too nice to you this whole time?”

“Eek!”

I showed my first to this guard captain who was avoiding answering me with an expression of ‘Please not that.’

It was almost funny how this person who had even understood the intentions behind my questions and was answering well suddenly now behaving like this.

At the start, it was almost as if this guard captain was going to give everything up.

The officer took a defense stance with arms and legs raised to block any attacks, and continued to speak.

“That’s not it… Every bit of information I have told you so far is the complete truth without any falsehoods. Anything you ask from me from here on will also be answered the same. However…”

“You’re curious if I’ll let you live?”

“Yes…”

“It’ll depend on your actions, don’t you think? Listen well. My only target isn’t just Swesi. The count, marquis, and even the castellan are all Protectors that have benefited from Swesi, correct?”

“T… That’s correct.”

“My goal is that. Because my dream is so grand, don’t you think I’ll need a large amount of information to match it? I’m going to need a strategist who is talented in both intel gathering and combat tactics. So it really depends on how you.”

“I understand.”

“I’m not the type to play around with lives. If I plan to kill someone, I tell them straightforward before doing so. I’ve done so till now. So think it over carefully.”

“I understand!”

I wasn’t lying.

I’ve done so to those I’ve captured for intel, and to those who fought against me using their might.

I do not give false hope. No matter how much my enemies pleaded and begged, I still remained rooted in my principles.

With that as proof, I am stating that what I’ve said to this person is true.

Also, stating that I will be taking down the nobles wasn’t an empty statement either.

Those who stayed at the castle and held political power were also Protectors as well. That meant that I could take their lives and receive power.

Perhaps understanding what I’ve said, the expression of the guard captain’s face was calmer than before.

“First, there is no way to track down the person who had been kidnapped 10 years ago. No matter what the method is, after being sold to a noble, there is no way to even find out if they are still alive.”

“…”

“They could be living as a completely different person in both mind and identity, or are already dead.”

“Then what about the person who was kidnapped 3 days ago?”

“That person is still inside the castle. At the request of the overseers for the products, at least a span of 4 months are needed to change the products.”

“Revolting bastards. That means that we still have time for now.”

“Yes. Rarely do nobles come in person to take their products, so unless that happens, I am positive.”

“Berlette has roughly 4 months… But the time remaining for me isn’t that long…”

“Do you need more information?”

“That’s enough for now. Now, you will be planning ahead with me.”

“Yes! I’ll do everything in my power to assist you.”

“It seems that there isn’t a speck of loyalty for the organization Swesi that you served.”

“Ahem…”

I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 233

Previous Chapter|Index|Next Chapter

233. Forced Summoning

Receiving the firstborn clone’s attack, Leon fled while focusing on healing himself.

His fierce attack wasn’t anything ordinary.

After all, the attack was enough to leave a deep wound through two layers of armor and a shield.

Leon gave an awkward laugh for the nobles, but he was running away with his life on the line.

However, Min-Cheol and his clones had no issues catching up to his speed.

It seemed that the clones were communicating with one another in a way that Min-Cheol could not see, since there were no unnecessary movements in their joint attacks and they didn’t get in the way of one another.

Attacking most eagerly out of everyone was the firstborn clone, catching up to Leon and laying down a barrage of merciless attacks.

“Caught you. Kill.”

“Urgh! Aaagh!”

With his unique cruel smile, he continued his attack.

However, the resistance that Leon was putting up wasn’t to be underestimated.

Wielding a giant axe easily, he was blocking most of the firstborn clone’s attacks.

Even while defending, he was successfully landing brutal attacks on the clone.

Not only was Leon attacking and defending at the same time, but he was healing as well.

If Min-Cheol fought without his clones 1v1, then this would’ve been a difficult fight where victory wouldn’t be guaranteed.

“Idiot. Stay back!”

“Ugh! Hurts. Kill.”

“Whew…”

The firstborn clone had received Leon’s attacks. It was the second oldest clone’s job to take care of the mess.

Despite chastising the firstborn clone with harsh words, the second oldest did not forget to heal him.

Min-Cheol, master of these clones, had ordered them to annihilate Leon and the counts.

The second oldest easily could’ve went beside or behind Leon to attack while Leon was focusing on the firstborn.

However, his choice wasn’t to attack, but instead to heal.

Because the first and second clones had bought time slowing down the marquis, the remaining three clones and Min-Cheol were able to get close to Leon.

Completely surrounded by the clones and Min-Cheol, he was blocking the rain of attacks with great difficulty.

Countless attacks rained down only at Leon, to the point where he couldn’t even think of counterattacking.

Between attacking and defending, the only choice he had was to defend if he wanted to keep healing himself.

However, there was no way to keep on defending as it was.

After all, the clones and Min-Cheol weren’t going all out yet to suppress him.

The counts only realized then just how serious the situation was.

They had expected an amusing spectacle, but now the situation before them had changed where the marquis was barely able to defend himself from the attacks.

With the realization that Marquis Leon would be defeated at this rate and they would be done in as well, fear had finally sunk in.

The lax attitude and the jovial mood at the beginning had long since dissipated.

The counts that had casted Barrier and had been observing all this time began to glance towards one another, whispering in a hushed tone that would not be heard by Marquis Leon.

“T-This… situation seems to be going awry?”

“Hey now. Even if that’s the case, do you really think that Marquis Leon would be defeated?”

“Are you really saying that after witnessing this scene firsthand?”

“However, if we move too rashly and receive his ire as a consequence…”

“Let’s wait for now. We cannot move until Marquis Leon himself asks for assistance.”

“Seems that would be the best choice.”

“On another matter… Does anyone have a Return Scroll?”

“Hm? What do you mean, a Return Scroll?”

One of the counts began to search for a Return Scroll suddenly.

He must’ve said it so that he could escape if things got out of hand.

However, a Return Scroll symbolized fleeing as mentioned before, and it also was tied to the concept of dishonoring oneself.

To the prideful nobles, this consumable item was characterized as such.

They looked at the count who had suggested such a dishonorable action as pathetic and spoke out against such action.

While they all thought of escaping internally, they did not miss this chance to crush another with the pretense of the noble’s code.

“Hey, you. Suggesting such a thing, how can you call yourself a count of Larkenta?”

“How dare a count think of such!”

“I mean… I’m just saying that in case something does happen… Do not mistake my intent.”

“Shut your mouth! From now on, don’t go around saying that we are acquainted. How disappointing. I am ashamed of you, and find you pathetic.”

“Ahem… Now, now. I was just asking a question.”

“Stop your useless contemplation and let’s continue observing the situation.”

“L-Let’s do that…”

Only after an apology did the hyena-like counts cease berating him and turned their attention back to the marquis and Min-Cheol.

Meanwhile, the count who spoke up about the Return Scroll carefully moved away.

The counts were situated in one of the corners of the square lobby.

Slowly inching his way closer to edge, he carefully opened his storage to pull out a scroll that he had prepared in advance.

Since the sounds of sword clashing against an axe filled the lobby, none of the other counts noticed him sneaking around.

With a scroll hidden in his sleeve, he went back to the group as if nothing had happened.

Leon’s body was battered from the nonstop attacks.

The shield that he had pulled from his storage had cracks all over it from receiving so many attacks,

An artisan probably designed the artifact, seeing as a marquis was using it.

The specs on this artifact would probably be incomparable to the artifacts being sold in the marketplace by ordinary merchants like Dump.

Even the rank of the materials required and the process of smithing itself would be incomparable.

The artisans, who numbered less than 10, didn’t have this title just for show.

However, even such a powerful artifact acted like a wooden buckler in front of these attacks.

It was then that Marquis Leon’s shield violently shattered like glass.

Things might have been different if he had put on a talisman that prevented the destruction of artifacts, but the marquis must’ve put on a talisman that increased his stats instead.

Only a shabby shield handle remained in his hand.

Leon’s shield being destroyed was a huge chance for Min-Cheol and his clones.

The shield that had covered more than half his body had shattered and the left side of his body was nearly defenseless.

Moving almost as if it had been planned beforehand, the clones and Min-Cheol repositioned accordingly.

It was to execute more lethal attacks.

The firstborn’s mad smile became further pronounced, and the second oldest joined in the attack as well due to not needing to heal anymore.

And it didn’t take long for deep and mortal wounds to start increasing on the marquis’ body.

The lobby limited the space available. No matter how much Leon fled in order to avoid the attacks, he was a rat caught in a trap.

Considering the possibility that he would flee outside the estate, Min-Cheol and his clones had set up barriers made of mana to prevent that.

Leon’s pretentious smile had long since disappeared.

Unable to hold out any longer, he gave a yell close to a scream towards the counts.

“Urk! What are you all doing! Hurry up and help me!”

“Yes, yes!”

“Understood!”

“Hurry and focus on healing the marquis!”

Only after hearing Marquis Leon’s cry did the counts finally take action.

They were more afraid of earning the marquis’ wrath than him dying.

Without removing the Barriers they set up to defend themselves, they began to heal the marquis.

Those who were too scared to get closer to Min-Cheol didn’t move an inch from the corner and only casted spells.

The combined healing skills of 8 counts successfully healed the mortally wounded Leon to full in an instant.

Despite more attacks landing and leaving a deep wound, it only lasted a moment.

“Kuhaha! Good. You can continue to try attacking me! I will be able to endure it!”

“You’re quite something else. Able to flap your mouth already?”

“Oraa!”

Recovering fully, Leon summoned his Mobile Storage.

He wasn’t the main protagonist of a robot comic book, so waiting for him to transform once was more than enough.

Min-Cheol and his clones kept attacking, but it was useless due to the sheer amount of healing the counts were able to output.

Leon shouted as his storage.

“Bring me a battle-type shield.”

Following his command, a shield with many sharp spikes came out, and Leon grabbed it with ease.

According to what he had said, it seemed likely that the shield was capable of offense and defense at the same time.

Min-Cheol could tell just from looking at it that it was a powerful item.

The counts had to be stopped from interfering in this fight.

Not only did Min-Cheol think so, but the clones thought the same.

As expected of the impatient firstborn clone, he spoke with a frustrated tone.

“Killing the annoying flies first. If we don’t do that, it won’t end.”

“Should I go? Or will you go?”

“I’ll go. And the second oldest goes too.”

“Idiot. Don’t drag me with you!”

“Second oldest likes me. We go together.”

“Good. First and second, go take care of the counts. The rest of you, continue attacking to suppress the marquis. We cannot let the marquis get to the firstborn and second oldest.”

“…”

“…”

“Take care of flies fast then kill him. We go.”

“You idiot. Making this bothersome.”

As soon as the conversation was over, the two clones launched themselves towards the counts.

Min-Cheol thought to himself that they made a good pair.

The firstborn who was able to use a potent debuff and the second oldest that was able to take care of allies with his powerful healing.

It wouldn’t take long for the two of them to take care of the 8 counts.

After all, they could kill a count with a single strike.

To make sure that Marquis Leon wouldn’t shift his focus during that time, the remaining clones and Min-Cheol increased the ferocity behind their attacks.

The firstborn smashed the Barriers that the counts put up with a single strike.

Seeing their Barriers shattered, they began to panic.

This had a huge effect on the amount of healing that the marquis was receiving.

With their lives on the line, who would be focusing on healing?

Confirming the overwhelming show of force, the counts began to cast attacks and shields with shaky hands.

These attacks would obviously not work, and was just their last ditch effort in a bid to survive.

It was then.

“A-A scroll?”

“Damn it!”

It was the count that had pulled out a scroll from the corner of the lobby.

Because he was so tense, he had dropped the Return Scroll that he had hidden in his sleeve.

The scroll fell to the floor, rolling on the ground with ease due to its cylinder shape.

Every count’s gaze turned to the scroll.

They all thought to themselves that if they could just grab onto it, they would be able to save their lives at the least.

Their scorn for the Return Scroll that was so united before couldn’t be found at all.

The owner of the scroll tried with everything he had to catch the scroll, throwing his body with his hands reaching out.

However.

“U-Ugh! Aaargh!”

“No escape.”

The firstborn clone sliced his arm with a single swing.

Since the clones shared the same thoughts as Min-Cheol did, they were also aware of what the purpose of that scroll was.

Not only that, but this scroll must not be used at any cost in this specific situation.

The arm that was cut off fell in front of the scroll.

Blood flowed out like a fountain from the amputated arm, and a scream filled the lobby.

However, the remaining counts did not seem to care at the slightest of the situation their fellow count was in.

After all, no count was casting shields to protect him from further attacks or any attempts at casting healing spells.

One of them yelled with madness in his voice.

“AAAH! I have to live! I cannot die!”

“That scroll is mine!”

“Flies. Bullshiting. Killing them all.”

And so with the counts obviously included, even the marquis who no longer received any healing met their pitiful end.
