I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 219

219. Playing in the Big Leagues

After Swesi disappeared in a single day, bad rumors began to circulate amongst the nobles.

The rumor was that Swesi, the organization that provided them with maidens and young Protectors, was destroyed in an instant.

And that it was at the hands of a single person.

Most of the nobles did not believe in this rumor.

After all, it was hard to believe that the organization Swesi, which had the combined combat prowess of a count, had been taken down by a single person.

It was understandable, as if this rumor was true, then at least someone with the strength of a marquis was behind this.

However, out of every marquises, which numbered less than 10, there was not a single one amongst them that did not trade with Swesi.

Swesi was the organization that did the dirty work for them so that they would not have to dirty their own hands.

Of course there was a price that needed to be paid, but the cost was cheap in comparison to the work.

So it didn’t make sense for these marquises to strike down Swesi.

Because Swesi consistently informed the nobles about the supply of products before, the lack of information on the current whereabouts of Swesi and their vacant headquarters only raised suspicion and confusion.

The nobles hid this problem instead of going public, and waited for either Swesi to return or another organization that would pick up this type of work.

Despite Min-Cheol destroying Swesi and kicking up a storm, the hype for the Festival of Blood did not cease.

On the contrary, the step up in quality of the festival only increased the size of the crowd, and Millions’ fame also increased due his ownership of the strongest slave.

The slaves of the training center had been butchered by Millions’ dog, Demon.

However, new slaves had already replaced them in the underground training center under Millions’ mansion.

There were also far more replacements than the previous number of slaves.

This proved that the number of people willing to become slaves would not stop as long as the excitement of the festivity continued.

The number of matches continued to increase, and the slaves continued to show off their new skills in an attempt to win support and attention from the crowd.

Contrary to that, the king of the festival, Demon, merely kept their title and the number of matches they partook in decreased.

To be frank, there weren’t any worthy adversaries against them.

With the Protectors, they became exponentially stronger each time they fought.

It was obvious since the winner would fully absorb the strength of the defeated.

This gap in power only exponentially increased the longer the champion held their position.

That was why no slaves stronger than Demon could appear right now.

These slaves would instead be able to face those climbing from the bottom rung.

The crowd still loved how the Demon fought.

It wasn’t fancy or presented impressive effects, but it clearly showed the overwhelming difference in power.

However, this wouldn’t go on for long.

As you may be aware, a crowd’s interest can die off easily.

The crowd’s response will grow cold, as if to make you wonder if they ever even liked it in the first place, and they will wish for a new king of the festival.

Millions and Demon were both aware of this as well.

However, the two of them weren’t very concerned about it.

What went on Millions’ head as he did whatever he pleased with the festival was a mystery, but at least for Demon, it was simple and certain.

Demon’s goal wasn’t to keep the title of king in the festival for long.

Their only goal was to obtain power within this realm called Hell in order to return to the celestial plane.

To them, fame and power here didn’t mean anything.

Already more than half the days of the agreed 100 days had passed, and it wouldn’t be long before they would return from Demon to Barub.

They were still subjugated by Millions’ strength and forced to follow his commands for now, but they would continue to grow their strength by consuming the slaves of the underground training center.

Not only that, but they planned to do so for the nobles and monsters as well.

After all, they even had the desire to bear fangs against their own owner, Millions.

For Demon, this world was just a hunting ground to grow stronger in.

There wasn’t anything that separated the humans from the monsters.

In their eyes, everything that drew breath and carried red blood appeared as prey.

****

“Master, I found it!”

“Good. We’re going back.”

“Yes!”

To find out about the nobles that traded with Swesi, we had headed out to find the accounting book.

Swesi’s headquarters were empty, but in case of visiting nobles, we moved at dawn.

As expected, thanks to Dan’s excellent performance again, we were able to find the account book without much trouble.

Far thicker than most law books, the accounting book was filled with information on many transactions.

The book was filled with the names of high ranking nobles that could be recognized by name alone due to their high status.

“I think marquises are too hard right now. We’ll be focusing on counts.”

“Yes. But… Master.”

“Hm?”

“I think we’ll have to approach this differently than how we did with Swesi.”

“How so?”

“It’s only this quiet because Swesi sneakily committed criminal activity. It won’t be the same case for the nobles.”

“…”

“They have enough political power to shake up all of Larkenta. Think about what they’ll do if each of the nobles are ambushed one by one. Do you think they’ll just sit still? They’ll do everything in their power to find out who is responsible.”

“Hm… That’s true. So what’s your suggestion?”

“Since you have set your sights on counts, you have to finish it all in one go.”

“In one go? Are you telling me to defeat all of the counts at the same time? You’re saying that hit and run guerilla tactics are not possible?”

“Yes, that’s right. It won’t be possible to attack twice. Unless you, master, has enough power to face off against counts, marquises, and the castellan. If you leave a time gap between the attacks, then there is a high chance you’d be captured on the second attack.”

“So I have to take out all the counts with the first attack… Do you have any good plans in mind?”

“That, I’ll have to think of one with time.”

“…”

“But if we are able to succeed in defeating just the counts separately in your plan to defeat all the nobles written on this accounting book, then everything else will work out smoothly.”

“Well, their power will continue to pile up within me as I take them down.”

“That’s correct. By absorbing the power of all the counts, you’ll naturally obtain enough power to overwhelm a marquis, and by taking down the marquises, your power will be greater than that of the castellan.”

“In theory, this plan seems as simple as it can be.”

“First, we’ll have to wait until the nobles, who are on alert due to the disappearance of Swesi, relax their guard. If we move hastily without a solid plan, it won’t end well for you or me.”

“I’m aware that it’s better to take our time and go through everything. However, I don’t have that much time left.”

“Huh? Do you have a terminal disease or something?”

“Hm. Something similar to that. Everything needs to be taken care of within the next 40-ish remaining days.”

“Hm… Then how about this?”

“…”

“The day that Mr. Dump succeeds in creating artifacts is the day we’ll choose to attack. You’ll have to finish maxing out the skill proficiency of your cloning skill anyways.”

“The growth of my own strength would stop, but I’ll increase my combat capabilities with external factors. And then we go on with the plan then?”

“Yes! That’s right. Rather than ruining everything by moving carelessly, this has at least a little increase in the chance to succeed.”

“You’re right, but…”

“Also, I think you should invest some time in obtaining more useful skills.”

“Skills…”

“The… You said that it was a terminal disease, but I think the reason why you have to leave here is something else. I saw the fight between you and the top 5 of Swesi before, and it looked as though master wasn’t from this world.”

“I told you. I’m a god.”

“Pfft! Right, you did say that. The only skills you use that the Protectors use here are Mobile Storage and the cloning skill, right?”

“Hm… Yeah. I wasn’t able to focus on that because I was so busy fighting.”

“With your storage filled to the brim with cores and overflowing with goods that can be traded used to purchase skill scrolls, don’t you think this is the most ideal situation to remedy that?”

“Let’s do that for now then. As you are aware, my plans might change at any given moment. I could be going into action as early as tomorrow.”

“I am aware of that. Let’s head back to the castle as soon as dawn passes.”

“Alright. Rest for now.”

****

Even the atmosphere of the marketplace within the castle was different from the marketplace outside.

Just from looking at the shape and number of stocked goods, I could tell that they were on another level.

I sensed leisure rather than a desperation to keep afloat from the merchants, and I could not see any questionable pandering to customers.

Rather, I saw merchants not selling their artifacts to unfamiliar nobles.

“It feels a little like this is another world.”

“You cannot compare the merchants from the outside with those here. They are craftsmen that the castle has recognized.”

“Is that what Dump dreamt of?”

“That’s probably the case. A spot here is something that any blacksmith or alchemist would hope for.”

“I feel bad for Dump by asking this, but…”

“If he fails, can I buy from here?”

“Well… It’s only an if, but if he does fail in creating artifacts that is.”

“If you could buy from here, then I’m sure we would’ve proceeded with the plan right away, even possibly today.”

“…”

“I am positive that the craftsmen will not offer us any of the highest tier artifacts. They would only do so to the marquises and the castellan. No matter how much money you have, it means that you cannot purchase any weapons, armor, and Protector talismans.”

“Hm… What about skill scrolls then?”

“As long as you have the cores, you can purchase as many as you want. There are no Protectors that would learn the same skill twice, so there’s more supply than a need in this case.”

“This is only half satisfying.”

“Let’s head that way. The skill store should be there.”

I followed Dan to where the stores were lined up.

The stores looked rather vacant due to the Festival of Blood that was currently going on at this time.

We arrived at the skill scroll store.

The first thing that I noticed were the scrolls that filled up the entire wall.

The number was immense, and slightly differently shaped scrolls were laid out neatly.

An old woman in the center of the store was sipping on tea.

Frowning with one one eye, she looked at the both of us with a unpleasant expression before opening her mouth, which Dan stood in front of me to respond.

“The items you’re seeking?”

“Grandma. Show us some demon god ranking skill scrolls.”

“Pff. Demon god rank? Seems a hick from the countryside has come to sightsee the castle.”

“If it’s cores, we have more than enough. Show us already.”

“Why are you trying to see goods you can’t even use! Get lost, you rascal!”

“Hey I said I’ll buy them, so why are you doing this? Here! Look. If it is cores, here…”

“I’ll be using them. May I see some of the scrolls?”

“Kuhuhu. Should’ve said so from the start. What kind of a stubborn fool dares to look at demon god scrolls?”

“Well. The nerve of that grandma!”

The old woman did not even show the items to Dan.

Despite holding a lot of cores in his hand, as if being to see through Dan’s capabilities, she determined that Dan would not be able to use these items.

Contrary to that, only after I spoke up did she give a small smile and raised her slouched body.

Opening the safe in the corner of the store, the old woman muttered.

“If it’s scrolls, they are overflowing. But I wonder if there is anything that would fill his capabilities… Kuhuhu. Maybe this might do.”

“Grandma. Why are you talking to yourself? Are you still insulting me?”

“Should I tame him… Or will I be eaten…”

“…”

218. Mutual Aid (2)

I freed all the maidens and Protectors that were kidnapped by Swesi.

I wasn’t sure what was done to them, but there were a few amongst them that weren’t all there in their heads.

However, Dan said that they will return to normal after returning back to their homes and resting for a bit.

He explained that they were charmed by a hex, but it wasn’t something that caused permanent damage.

Just like that, only Berlette remained in the Mobile Storage, and I immediately headed for Dump’s home.

As expected, the sound of hammering was ringing there.

I opened up the door to Dump’s workplace and headed in.

Noticing me despite the loud noise, Dump turned to greet me.

“Sir Guardian. I’ve been waiting for you.”

“I also wanted to visit you as soon as I could.”

“Huh? Did you notice the completion of the artifact?”

“Did you succeed? I have even better news for you.”

“Ho ho. I wonder what it is. There’s only a week left before the day you planned to execute your plan. I really put in all the effort I could to finish it even a little faster. Please come and see.”

“Ah… The planned date was a week from now. But the plan has changed a little.”

“Hm. I see that you needed more time to prepare. There’s no need to rush. I believe in you. But I am really curious as to the good news that you’ve brought me.”

“…”

“This is the first time I’ve seen Sir Guardian make a face like this. And you’re not confirming the artifact that you’ve been desiring for so long.”

“Is that so? This takes priority. It’s within the storage.”

“Oh…? Is it a unique crafting material?”

“You should see for it yourself.”

“Let out Berlette.”

“Huh! What did you just say? I didn’t mishear that, right? You definitely said Berlette!”

“Thankfully I wasn’t late.”

“…”

The Mobile Storage let out Berlette.

She ran towards to Dump, who was covered in dust and metal powder, and the reuniting between daughter and father that everyone can imagine came to be.

Dump wasn’t able to returned the hug with his dusty hands and was just crying for a long time.

He could’ve hugged her tight and expressed joy from the reunion, but I was sure this just showed how precious she was to him.

His tears of joy that needed not be wiped or be ashamed of told me so.

Unlike her father, Berlette was calm.

She also did cry, but she did not let herself be overtaken by emotions and comforted her father instead.

After confirming that Berlette was safe, Dump looked towards me.

“Sir Guardian… How could this be…”

“I moved the plan ahead by a week. Things worked out a lot better than I had planned.”

“Thank you. Thank you so much. I don’t know how to repay this debt…”

“I am ashamed and sorry for saying this, but I didn’t do this just to save your daughter. I also wanted additional benefits for myself. I’m not the saint that you think I am.”

“That’s not true. Even if you did do this partially for your benefit, my daughter has returned home safe and sound. Even though you say that, I’m sure that you had me and my daughter in mind.”

“…”

“I’m positive. My life is only yours, Sir Guardian.”

“That’s not true…”

“Ah. How could I forget. As I have said before, I’ve succeeded in creating an artifact. Because of my reunion with my daughter, I…”

“I understand. I’ll check out the artifact tomorrow. I think it’s a good idea to revel in your happiness right now.”

“That’s not true! If I can’t even do this much, I don’t think I could face you without being ashamed of myself.”

“Please confirm it now. This is the only way father and I can return the favor.”

“…”

“She’s right. I was able to confirm that my child has returned safe and sound. I cannot take advantage of your good will any further.”

“Then…”

“Yes! The only one I was able to succeed was with the armor. And I was just barely able to complete it right before you came. And while I did succeed in creating it, I am not sure that I was able to apply the stats that I wanted to put on it. I’ll show you it right away.”

“Yes.”

While Dump had left to bring the armor, I called Dan from the storage.

I did not have the ability to identify the artifacts in this world.

This was probably the case with the items that dropped from monsters and also with the items created by humans.

To confirm the abilities of the artifacts, I needed a Protector from this world.

And the best person suited for that right now was Dan.

“Master. Wasn’t today’s work over?”

“Sorry, but something minor came up.”

“Always welcome to. Ah. This is the home of the lady general. We’ve met at the castle, right? My name is Dan.”

“Yes… Thanks to you, I was able to return safely. Thank you.”

“Heh! It wasn’t anything…”

“…”

“It was really a good thing to bring you amongst all those guards.”

“Huh? Master, what do you mean by that all of a sudden…”

“I don’t think you really that bad of a person. Just an idiot who tried really hard to pretend that he’s bad.”

“…”

“Don’t change. I’m sure you already know that it would be the right thing to do.”

“…”

Who would see Dan as a member of Swesi.

Just a couple days ago, he was the captain of all the guards.

He did not directly participate in the human trafficking, but he was a member who assisted in the wrongdoing of Swesi.

To think that those who were kidnapped would become indebted to him.

It really was ironic.

Much more so after seeing him genuinely happy at their thanks.

Hearing what I said, Dan became sheepish and smiled awkwardly.

He probably also knew just how much he had changed in the last few days.

I was also rather troubled.

After becoming an Awakened back on Earth, I never had an ally like him.

To put it simply, if you categorized people as good and evil, Dan would belong in the evil category.

Unlike him, people like Jong Ho or Ho Jin around me would belong in the good category.

The monster Karin had also stood on the side of my enemy before, but because Karin never moved with intentional malice, I could let it go.

This was the reason why I was troubled.

The members of the radical faction and Swesi, who have died at my hands.

Was there a guarantee that there was no one like Dan.

At the surface level, they were evil.

They didn’t care for the lives of other people like themselves and dreamed of things beyond unethical.

However, there were probably people who could’ve lived a righteous life like Dan.

I, however, did not notice and saw them all as enemies instead.

I was partially embarrassed at myself for thinking that they had to receive punishment for being a bad person before.

I concluded and judged them with just the reason that I was stronger than them.

Almost as if I was some god that was above everything in the world.

There was a deafening silence between Dan, Berlette, and I.

With some words I had tossed out without much concern, I had created a heavy mood.

The person to break the long silence was Dump.

Dump, who had carried the heavy looking armor with great difficulty spoke with a bright smile.

His words of embarrassment had a hint of pride in them.

“Sir Guardian! This is it. This is the armor that I have succeeded in creating.”

“Thank you for your hard work. Can you tell me the stats on it?”

“If it was created to my ideal design, it should have 30% damage reduction and 30% damage absorption. And it should have a bonus 20% attack damage increase.”

“Huh?”

“What’s the issue?”

“Is that possible? The stats are much higher than what I have obtained so far…”

“Hm… This would be the case if it was crafted to my ideals. Such a top of the line equipment would be difficult even for a special class smith of the castle to make.”

“Ah… Then I shall confirm it now.”

“Yes! This is my first successful creation, so please do not hope for too much. A disappointing outcome might be the case here.”

“Of course. Dan, I need you to check it for me.”

“Yes master. I knew that would be the case and took off my armor I was wearing ahead of time. Then…”

Dan put on the armor as if he had been waiting to do so.

The effects that Dump had mentioned were actually really amazing.

To think that such powerful effects, and three to boot, would be attached to a single artifact.

It was obvious that the amount of damage reduction, absorption, and attack increase would be reduced if it wasn’t of the highest quality, but the type of effects themselves would not change.

Quieting my breath, I focused on Dan.

Dump was the same.

It seemed that he had rather high hopes for his first successful creation.

It didn’t take long before Dan to speak up.

“Hm… It’s a bit iffy.”

“What do you mean?”

“That’s…”

“Don’t hesitate and tell us already.”

“Yes! If the results weren’t good, then I’m sure that it is due to the creation process. Please let me know now.”

“The effects aren’t even half of what you had targeted for. The damage reduction is 14%, the absorption at 13% and attack damage increase is at 9%.

“This isn’t as good as I thought. It looks like I need to work harder.”

“It’s the first time. I think that this much isn’t a bad result.”

“Please give me back the armor. I should be able to recover at least some of the material put into creating it.”

“No, I shall be using it.”

“Huh? When I was changing the appearance of the equipment you were wearing before, I saw that the equipment you are wearing now is still better than this…”

“That’s correct. I will be using it… But it won’t be me… But it’ll also be me…”

“Master! Perhaps it’s for me?”

“Mm. No. I’ll be equipping it on the clone. Please give me the armor and other failed attempts. They will be useful for some time.”

“That’s good. I understand. Please wait a bit more. I will be making equipment of the highest caliber with everything I got.”

“You have already succeeded over halfway. I’ll be waiting.”

“Yes! And my reliable assistant Berlette has returned as well now…”

Dump and I weren’t disappointed by much with the lower than expected stats.

This was the first successful creation of an artifact after all the failures so far.

If he remembers how to create an artifact, then there will be more successes than failures.

By continuing to succeed, he will be able to refine the method to the point of making an artifact of the highest quality.

If the artifact was able to perform at the level he aimed for, and I was able to equip both myself and the clones with those highest quality artifacts, there would be no need to worry or be afraid of my contest with Barub.

I had obtained a massive amount of power by defeating Swesi.

Not only did I make up the distance in one go, but I had obtained growth far surpassing that of Demon.

My plan ahead was already set as well.

Hunting in the unexplored territories? I could obtain a fair amount of power doing just that.

However, I will be picking a method that is much faster and much more costly, and even a bit dangerous.

“Dan.”

“Yes, master.”

“Shall we go visit the nobles that engaged in trading with Swesi?”

“Hm… Just like last time, my intuition is giving me the signal. I shall guide you.”

“Good.”

216. Their End, My Beginning (2)

“First, I’ll be eliminating the enemies outside.”

“Yes. Then what will you be doing after that?”

“We need to avoid fighting within the castle. There are those captured held inside after all. I will be bringing out their top 5 you’ve informed me of before outside.”

“Do you think that they’ll just follow along with your plan that easily?”

“Think about it. If an intruder invades your headquarters and is causing chaos, do you think they’ll just ignore it and stay inside? They’re already on alert due to my recent ambush on them.”

“It does make sense. However, other than the top 5, what will you do about those left inside the castle? If they find out about what is going on outside, they’ll be doing everything they can to scurry away.”

“That’s why your role is important here. I’ll be leaving them to you.”

“Huh? But… They will be a lot stronger than I am. As I’ve explained to you before, I’m more of an overseer who uses their head…”

“Do not worry about that. I’ll have some bodyguards for you.”

“Huh? Bodyguards?”

Dan looked around while asking.

It seemed that he was looking for those bodyguards I mentioned.

However, I knew that none would be found before his eyes.

It was because the bodyguards I mentioned would appear out of thin air.

“What are you looking around for? No need to doubt. I have everything planned out.”

“Yes… I understand!”

“Wait here and enter the castle after confirming the situation. Enter when their top 5 come out. Understood?”

“Yes, I understand.”

“Then wait until I give you the signal. I’ll be going ahead.”

“Yes!”

I left Dan behind and charged in first.

Since it hadn’t been long since I had faced the hunters from the pub, those at the headquarters wouldn’t have been able to hear about their demise yet.

To be more accurate, there weren’t any alive to bring the news.

They would only be able to guess about their group disappearance after time had passed.

I had expected only the remaining 10 hunters taking care of the nearby surroundings, but there were quite a surprising amount of personnel defeating the monsters outside.

‘What’s going on. Were they able to obtain reinforcements that quickly? That’s good. It doesn’t matter how many are here after all.’

I didn’t bother casting either of the Stealth Jutsu or Silent spells.

I even took off the raincoat that uncomfortably blocked my field of view despite the heavy downpour.

Without any hesitation, I approached them with confidence.

“New faces, huh?”

“Intruder! Hurry up and report to the higher ups!”

“Sure. Take your time. Don’t trip. And please inform them that the intruder who had completely wiped out all the guards is here.”

“Stop him! We have to buy time!”

“Buying time? No. I’ll be playing with you all for a bit. Until the five eagle brothers from the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman or something comes out that is.” 1

“Attack!”

“Hm… That’s not it. All of you have to just stand still like extras. You’ll be dying soon afterwards.”

“Urgh!”

“It’s because it’s your first time. It won’t take long. Just sit still. Isn’t the sound of the rain nice? Don’t you think it’s a nice sound to hear before dying?”

“Hurry up and cast Cleansing!”

“I cannot move my body. And it seems I can’t cast any skills either!”

“Damn it!”

Their eyes were wide open with shock after becoming completely bound still by Hold and Bind.

Sitting in front of the gathered group of enemies, I waited for their top 5 to come out.

Also, I gave the signal to Dan who had been looking at me for it.

It wasn’t that much of a distance to cover, but he ripped a scroll to sneak into the castle from the side.

It was the ideal method to quickly, accurately, and safely sneak in.

After confirming that he had successfully teleported using the scroll, I summoned my clones next to Dan and quietly whispered.

“Guard Dan and assist him to rescue the people inside. They cannot die or get hurt. While dealing the least amount of collateral damage possible, annihilate all members of Swesi other than Dan.”

As if understanding my command, the clones nodded their heads and surrounded Dan to begin guarding him.

Was it because Swesi had recently suffered from an intruder before?

It didn’t take long before one of the guards who had ran inside to report the current situation came back outside with the enemy generals.

As Dan had told me before, there were 5 of them, and the aura of power they exuded were vastly different from the rest as expected.

After the 5 came outside of the castle, Dan accompanied the clones in heading inside the castle.

It really was perfectly timed.

No matter how well tuned someone’s senses were, they would be completely focused on the amount of killing intent I was letting out in front of them.

It seemed that none had noticed Dan’s movements.

The person who looked like they were the overboss of Swesi approached me and spoke.

“On whose orders are you here doing this?”

“It really is the five eagle brothers. There’s no one who commanded me to. It’s because I just don’t like you all.”

“Even after all of this, if you reveal your identity and stop your attacks, we will provide you with the goods. Isn’t that what your master wants! If you do not stop, we will defeat you and kill the master you serve.”

“…”

“Are you aware that the organization you are fucking with without any fear is Swesi? To think that a noble dares to mess with an organization that even the castellan has permitted. This is our ultimatum. Answer.”

“Aren’t you going to fight? It’s raining so let’s hurry this up and get inside. I think we might catch a cold.”

“You fool! Strike him down. However, leave him alive. We’ll get a confession out of him on who had commanded him to do this. Whoever that gave the command will strike the ground and regret ever doing so!”

“Yes!”

“Yes.”

“No matter where I go, the bosses never fight together with their subordinates. Even though it won’t be enough if they all come at me together. Even though they’ll be left alone and meeting a pathetic end… If you really want it that bad, then guess I’ll have to do so.”

“Shut up!”

“Before that, let me take care of those bound by me.”

The skill’s destructive power after absorbing the hunter’s power as well was great.

With a single Meteor Call, those all bound under my spell had been wiped out.

Other than the power of mana, magical energies, and the power of the gods I had obtained, the destructive force of the skill was determined only by the skill’s level.

I had poured down the same magic on the hunters before, but this time the number was far less due to the lack of clones present.

Despite that, surprisingly the skill had become far stronger than before I had defeated the hunters from the pub.

It seemed that the power I obtained here had a direct correlation to the destructive force of skills.

I hadn’t noticed it before because I had been using the skills on the monsters without knowing about how strong they were when hunting.

Other than the overboss, the four generals retreated backwards to avoid the Meteor.

My attack spell wasn’t something so slow as to be avoidable. As expected, these enemies weren’t to be underestimated.

The four of them attacked in pairs of two.

Each of them had different methods of attacking, and the combination was rather difficult to deal with.

In the frontline was a brawler trying to catch my attention, and behind the brawler was an archer, a mage, and a priest.

The priest casted healing and buffs nonstop on the brawler, and the mage casted shields, attack speed buffs, and attack damage buffs on the archer while also partaking in the attack.

Because I had casted a lot of shields, the damage wasn’t something I couldn’t handle, but it also prevented me from attacking back.

It wasn’t easy casting magic while also avoiding the attacks that came without missing a beat.

Giving up on retaliating against the brawler, I only focused on defense.

While doing so I casted a skill against the enemy priest and mage.

“Urk!”

“Heali-…”

2 huge Icebergs crashed into them.

Because they did not expect any attacks to come at them, they were helplessly trapped inside the Icebergs.

Normally their bodies should’ve been twisted apart and killed, but they were holding on.

Even though Iceberg normally twisted apart anything inside into puzzle pieces, this wasn’t the case now.

However, it also wasn’t accurate to say that they blocked the attack completely.

Both of them had received a ton of damage, and were barely holding on right now.

“Oraaa!”

After confirming what had happened to the priest and mage, the brawler’s attack increased in ferocity.

They must’ve realized that if any attacks followed up on their comrades right now, the situation would become far more difficult.

As if to buy time for the two to recover, the archer also pulled out a dagger and approached me.

The archer’s main weapon was a bow, but depending on what stats the archer had invested into, the dagger could also be a powerful weapon after all.

“It’s rather annoying how you all are sticking to me!”

“Urk!”

Because they were tenaciously sticking onto me, I casted Chain Explosion.

My entire body was covered in explosions in an instant.

This was a skill that dealt damage to me as well, but it wasn’t that dangerous if I used my shields and controlled the amount of power output.

However, that wouldn’t be the case for my opponents.

These explosions dealt all sorts of elemental damages.

On top of that, one of the powers granted by the Piece of Space and Time allowed my attacks to bypass all resistances.

After losing their resistances, my enemies would be unable to handle all the various elemental types of explosions.

“Wide open.”

“Ugh!”

“Damn it! Block it!”

The brawler and the archer retreated back to avoid the explosions.

Now I had the window of opportunity to attack the priest and the mage.

There was no need for me to cast Meteor, a spell of the complete opposite attribute, because it would cancel out the Iceberg.

I had to defeat these two only using ice and electric magics.

Lightning struck down the Icebergs.

As the electricity dug into the Icebergs, shards of ice shattered outwards.

On top of that, chunks of ice the size of cannonballs were falling down from the sky.

It was because I had casted In Storm and Blizzard.

I did not know if it was the same for the In Storm spell, but the combo with Blizzard and Iceberg was amazing.

The chunks of ice falling dug into the Icebergs and stopped near their bodies.

And then.

-BOOM!

The second part of the Blizzard’s attack effect, the explosions.

The spell Blizzard had shattered the targets the spell Iceberg had failed to do.

Without even time to recover, their forms were torn apart inside the ice to the point of not being recognizable.

Since the explosions from Blizzard let out frost, the giant blocky iceberg had become bigger unevenly.

The translucent ice had changed into the color of blood, and became solid like a well made statue.

And as if I had been waiting for this moment, I swallowed a King’s Marble at the same time.

It wasn’t because I had received any damage. It was because I had obtained a massive amount of power.

If I was able to defeat 4 of the generals charging at me at the same time, I would be able to save one marble, but the situation didn’t allow me that leisure.

And perhaps because the clones had assisted Dan in the operation, I felt decent and small bits of power less than what I had obtained from the two I had just slain flow in.

It was because if the clones defeated any Protectors, the power would directly flow into the caster.

“You bastard!”

“Master!”

“Yeah. They’re calling for reinforcements. You should fight too. Why are you fighting separately, making me waste my precious marbles?”

After acting as if to be a cut above the rest and holding their ground, the overboss finally realized just how serious the situation was and prepared to battle.

In their hand was a sword the shape of a half a circle.

The sword looked like the crescent moon or perhaps like a rocking pizza cutter.

With this, there were two who would attack in melee range, and one that was capable of attack from both short and long range.

Those responsible for healing and defense were no longer present.

This meant that the longer the fight went, the more advantageous it would be for me, and they would collapse from exhaustion.

However, there was no need to drag this on. It was because I could defeat them immediately if I wished.

“I shall make you thoroughly regret going against Swesi!”

After confirming them charging at me, I empowered the Butcher’s Sword in my hand.

I also formed another sword in my other hand.

It was with the intention to pour out all of my physical attack skills like the Formless Sword Aura.

Both swords were letting out a bright light as I prepared to attack.

“It’s only right for the end of a fight to be close quarters. Come!”

217. Mutual Aid

Seeing the swords in my hands, they all charged at once.

The archer also pulled out their dagger and dashed towards me.

Obviously, the overboss was the fastest out of all of them.

The first person to approach me pointed the blade of the sword away from their body and spun fiercely.

It looked like the skill of the warrior class, Whirlwind.

The air around them warped as if being sucked into the spin, and their crescent shaped sword approached while aiming for me.

Despite putting all of my strength into these shield spells, they were slowly being chipped away bit by bit by their attack.

It convinced me that the attack must deal a lot of damage.

However, because I had an infinite amount of mana, the shields would recover after a little bit of time.

I put forth my swords to block their attack, and checked what the others who followed suit with the charge were doing.

Each time the swords clashed, the sound from the friction was enough to swallow up the sound of the torrential downpour.

While the overboss was buying time, the others attempted to attack me from different angles.

If I wasn’t able to focus around me because of a close quarters fight, these attacks would’ve been sharp.

However, there was now quite a gap in power between them and I.

It was true that the overboss’ attack was very powerful, but it wasn’t fast and brutal enough.

“Kuh!”

“Urk!”

The brawler and the archer that had tried to attack me with this window of opportunity were hit with the Sword Aura I swung towards them.

It was a sharp attack that went for their vitals, but they twisted their bodies to receive the cuts on their shoulders and forearms.

It wasn’t enough to do a lot of damage, but I was 100% positive that I would be able to hit their vitals with any following attacks.

It was because they were hit with the Formless Sword Aura.

They would not be able to read into the attacks that I would follow up with.

It was the equivalent of receiving my attacks with their eyes closed.

I wasn’t able to land a single hit on the overboss so far, but due to the Beserk that would activate while fighting against the two I’ve landed a hit on, the overboss would be forced to kneel.

“The heat is picking up. I’m done warming up.”

“What? Focus your attacks! We must get through his defenses!”

“Yes!”

“AHH!”

As expected. My body turned red and my blood began to boil.

Despite not being able to read ahead into my Sword Aura, they were receiving my attacks while avoiding having their vitals hit.

However, the moment that Berserk activates, a slaughter so graphic that it would be hard to watch would begin.

They charged at me as the overboss’s command dictated so.

At the same time, my vision was dyed in red, and I could feel my focus and obsession towards them increase. My destructive power increased as well.

It happened before the coordinated attack even reached my body.

The only one who didn’t fall, the overboss, had their mouth wide open with an expression of disbelief.

It was because they were seeing their subordinates fall in a despair-inducing manner before their very eyes.

The bodies of the brawler and the archer had countless cuts, as if they had just waded through a forest of thorny vines.

However, the cuts were incomparably deep and lethal.

So much to the point that death would have been instant.

The blood that sprayed out of their bodies fell down like rain onto the ground.

Due to my vision being dyed red already, I could not tell between the pouring rain and the spray of blood, but it wasn’t enough to hide the pungent smell of blood.

The downpour of rain washed their bodies of blood, and it also washed the layer of blood off my body as well.

Berserk activates after the Formless Sword Aura.

To wield that power wasn’t easy in the slightest.

When Berserk first activated, I had lost my memory as if I had drunk too much and the film was cut short as I had lost my sense of reasoning.

However, it was different now. It wasn’t as if I had used this in battle only once or twice since then.

I was able to completely control up to the point where my body was boiling and steam was rising off my body clearly.

And of course I was able to do all that while not losing my memory or sense of reasoning too.

Another positive was that I didn’t need to swallow a King’s Marble even after the powers of those two flowed into me.

Was it because my body was heated as much as it could already?

Or was it because the amount of power I could handle within my body had grown to the point where I no longer had trouble absorbing only this much power?

Whatever the reason was, the only thing on my mind was to take down the remaining overboss before the Berserk effect would end.

“They should’ve been able to avoid an attack of that magnitude…”

“You’ll soon find out that it isn’t possible.”

“You little!”

“Pulling petty tricks?”

“Arrgh!”

It seemed that they had at least noticed a little bit of the secret behind the Sword Aura I had swung around.

Unfortunately they had only noticed that after seeing their subordinates receiving the attack they were capable of dodging or blocking with their vitals directly.

In an instant, the overboss kicked the floor and made distance, then put their twin swords into the shape of an X before swinging through thin air.

Sword Aura that let out a bright glow formed where the twin swords were swung at, and immediately flew towards me.

They must’ve sensed that being hit with a melee attack would lead them to the same fate that those before have fallen to.

I moved my body to avoid the Sword Auras that flew towards me like missiles.

A massive amount of shockwave was released from the explosions as the Sword Auras that flew past me seemed to have collided with the terrain.

The amount of light emitted was also intense.

To think that they were able to keep pouring out attacks like that as if it was nothing.

I was positive that they definitely had enough power to be called an overboss.

Snickering at their rather cute struggling, I approached them one step at a time as I waded through the muddied battlefield.

“Making distance? Sensible.”

“You won’t be able to keep talking smack for long!”

“Quick on the uptake too. You definitely would’ve won if you had fought someone with a similar amount of power. I’ll admit that.”

“You’ll die here!”

“But… You were just unlucky. Just think of it like that. You unfortunately ended up messing up with an acquaintance of some crazy asshat, and unfortunately got that crazy asshat’s eyes on you. You showed them a way to get a crazy amount of power.”

“…”

“That distance you made. I’ll show you that it makes no difference to someone who is truly strong.”

“Kuh… Ugh!”

A split second.

After closing the distance they had taken the time to make, I arrived right in front of them before they would even react.

Following that, I stabbed both charged swords in each of my hands in their chest.

It was an attack that not only didn’t allow them enough time to avoid it, but didn’t give them enough time to even twitch.

You could say I only gave them enough time for their brows to furrow?

It was such a fast attack that no blood sprayed out from their chest cavity where my sword stabbed into.

Even though the Sword Aura had pierced their body and was sticking out of their back, this was still the case.

“I know it’s hard to believe, but it is the truth.”

“How did you…”

“It looks like you can’t even move your body. Or maybe you’re not moving your body? Whatever the reasoning, you made the right call. The more you move your body, the faster you’ll arrive at death’s door.”

“Urk…”

“Swesi is finished.”

“Fool. Even if you defeat me, the world does not change. There is evil in every heart. Another organization will rise to continue Swesi’s legacy.”

“You really are a rare type of villain. To think that you’d be spouting that type of garbage enough at death’s door.”

“Do you find it strange that I’ve followed that path of the world and became nonsensical just like it?”

“I wonder. What if I also kill all the nobles who bring evil into this world? I would be bringing at least a little bit more sense into this unfair world. Even the castellan you have so much faith in.”

“Kuhaha! I’ll be closely observing the living world even after my death. I’ll be waiting for the moment that your smug mug will be painted with fear and blood!”

“Be my guest.”

I pulled out the swords.

The moment I did so, blood poured out as if a dam had burst, and with a smirk, kneeled onto the ground without being able to close their eyes.

Berserk also ended right on time and the heat from my body cooled.

It was then.

I heard someone’s call.

“Master!”

“…”

Dan was there.

Also the clones that I had summoned were behind.

Seeing as Dan and the clones were safe, I knew that the rescue of the kidnapped, including Berlette, was successful.

“Are you okay?”

“What of the people?”

“They’re all safe and sound. As you, the master has commanded, no one died or was injured!”

“Good work.”

After wiping off some of the blood, I headed for to castle entrance where Dan and the clones were at.

There were enough people to fill the castle’s lobby.

They must’ve all the people that were captured by Swesi.

Out of them all, I saw a familiar face.

It was Berlette.

“Sir Guardian…”

“I’m sorry. I was a bit late.”

“…”

“Let’s not waste any time and go back. I’m sure that your father is waiting for you anxiously.”

“Master. Please open up the storage.”

“I guess that would be the best way to transport this many people to the village, right?”

“Of course. Let’s hurry.”

“Shouldn’t even the ending to all this be perfect as well? I shall guide them.”

“Alright.”

“Now! Everyone, please come in this way! This location is in the middle of the 7th tier hunting grounds. It’s a place filled with monsters. If you want to be safe until you return back to the village, please enter the storage.”

“…”

“…”

All of the rescued people were shaking in fear.

Dan raised his voice loudly to try guiding them, but they were hesitating.

It was then. Berlette spoke.

“We were already dead. Or at least nothing different from having died once already. What do the dead have to fear? It can’t get worse. Let’s hurry in. Don’t you want to return back to your families?”

To Berlette’s calm but strong voice, the people followed.

She also had been captured and must be mentally exhausted, but she was leading the people with such confidence.

She really was a leader.

Berlette plunged her body first into the pitch dark of the storage.

The Mobile Storage was able to catch her safely.

It really was different from how Dan went in and out of the storage.

After she went in, the others that were just standing still began to enter the storage one by one.

“She isn’t an ordinary girl.”

“I agree. To do that wouldn’t be easy in a situation like this.”

“Check if anyone is remaining. When you enter as the last person, I shall return to the village.”

“Yes!”

Dan went back into the castle to check if anyone was remaining.

The clones didn’t forget my original order and went along with him as well.

After 10 minutes, Dan ran out while panting for air, letting me know that no one was left and entered the storage.

The remaining copies looked towards me as if waiting for their next orders.

“That’s enough. Today’s business ends here.”

“…”

“…”

“Good work.”

With their work complete, the copies vanished.

As the only person left in the spacious main headquarters of Swesi, I tore open a scroll to safely return near the castle.

Thinking about Dump, who would be waiting anxiously for Berlette, and the families of those who were kidnapped here, I moved quickly.

I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 214

Previous Chapter|Index|Next Chapter

214. It Seems I Picked Up Something That Does Not Exist In the Encyclopedia?

“A talisman? I have an encyclopedia for that. Master, please let me out quickly.”

“Is that so? Come out for now. Let Dan out.”

“It’s not too bad to be sought out in times of need, I think?”

“Enough, just look at this instead.”

“Hm…”

At my command, the storage spat out Dan, and I pulled out the talisman that I had put on earlier.

After being stuck in the pitch dark storage for some time, he ran out with great haste.

Immediately he looked at the talisman I handed over carefully.

Afterwards, he pulled an encyclopedia yellowed with age from a flat cloth bag that always hung by his hip.

Perhaps because he had the role sorting all the items that ended up in Swesi’s headquarters after the hunts, there were quite a lot of encyclopedias in his bag.

The reason why I took off the talisman even after equipping it on my armor and had Dan identify it was simple.

After I equipped the talisman, I felt as though I had gained a vast amount of power, but I couldn’t tell in what way exactly.

Since my body was that of an Awakened and not that of a Protector, I wasn’t able to see numerically the powers granted by artifacts from here.

You could say it was as if I was eating something very delicious, but I was eating it with my nose pinched shut.

Simply put, I couldn’t tell what it was.

Dan opened his encyclopedia.

“Let’s see… Surprisingly the patterns on this talisman are on both sides of the talisman. Also the color looks a bit redder than the usual color of gold.”

“Enough small talk and hurry up instead.”

“Yes!”

It was exactly as Dan had said.

The Indomitable Talisman that Dump had made with embarrassment and handed over to me had these engravings carved only on one side of the talisman.

However, the talisman that this elite monster dropped had engravings on both sides of the talisman.

I had thought that this was normal for talismans that dropped from monsters to be like this, but seeing Dan’s surprise, it seemed as though that wasn’t the case.

This talisman was special. Not only was the shape, but the energy it gave off was immense.

After crouching on the ground and flicking through the encyclopedia, Dan spoke up.

“That’s strange. Master, please wait a bit longer.”

“Why?”

“It seems that I may have missed it. I’ll try searching it again. There’s no way that this isn’t present in the encyclopedia…”

“Hm… Start searching from the end. I’ll start searching for it from the start.”

“Ah. You don’t have to bother with something like this.”

“It’s because I’m getting impatient. Move.”

“Yes.”

It was rather unsightly to see two men in the middle of a messy battlefield so close together and focusing on something as if playing house, but since there were a lot talismans to go through in the encyclopedia, I sat right next to Dan to assist him.

However, no matter how many times we went through the encyclopedia, we could not find any that matched the patterns on the talisman that I had obtained.

This only further confirmed that this talisman held a great power.

However, we still could not find information on what that power was.

My curiosity increased greatly.

No matter how good the talisman was, it would only serve its full value when I knew its ability and used it with 100% effectiveness.

I didn’t want to miss out on utilizing all of its power because I didn’t understand it.

“Master, it seems that this is a rare talisman that doesn’t appear in the encyclopedia, you know?”

“Not found in the encyclopedia, right? I did feel a vast amount of energy the moment I equipped it.”

“It seems that we need to show it to an alchemist to find the answer. But are you curious about the name of the talisman? You could find out about the ability of the talisman immediately after wearing it. Since that is the case, there’s no reason to identify it, right? It’s just a name.”

“You might find this crazy, but I’m not a Protector. So there’s no way for me to find out about the ability.”

“Huh?”

“Didn’t I tell you before? I said that I’m a god.”

“Huh. Master, your jokes are going too far.”

“It seems you’ll have to try this on. I just have no way of finding out.”

“I do not understand this situation. I don’t know if you are being serious or joking. Can I really put it on?”

“Everything I’m saying is the truth. Just do as I tell you.”

“Yes. Then… Ah. Can you open the storage before I do so?”

“Hm? Why the storage?”

“Because I’m still a human, there’s a chance I can get greedy after confirming the talisman’s ability.”

“You sure have a lot of pointless worries. Do you think you’ll pick it up and run?”

“It is a possibility…”

“Eh. Do you really think you would? Then you’ll be killed, you know? Well, if you’re that nervous, then I’ll open it up for you.”

“Yes, yes…”

Dan threw himself voluntarily into the storage.

He must’ve asked to be put in storage because he knew that the contents of the storage cannot leave said storage without the permission of the caster.

There was a small talisman slotted into his armor as well.

Taking that out, he put in my talisman.

However, the normally talkative man was standing still in a trance without a single word.

It made me wonder if it was a fluke contrary to my expectation.

It even made me wonder if he was putting up an act.

“Are you able to confirm the ability of the talisman?”

“…”

“Hey, Dan. Can you not hear me?”

“…”

“What are you doing?”

“…”

“What a mess. Are you asleep? You really are quite troublesome in many ways.”

He fell forward on the spot.

It seemed that he had passed out due to a power that was greater than what he was capable of handling coming into his body.

Because of that, my expectations kept rising exponentially.

Just how great was it that you could not even handle it without being strong.

Hearing his faint, shallow breathing, thankfully I could tell that he was still alive.

After taking Dan out of the storage, I didn’t take off the talisman and healed him.

It didn’t take long before his consciousness returned and he shouted while standing up suddenly.

“H… Holy shit! A dragon?”

“Enough sleep talking and tell me what the ability is.”

“Master. It’s a dragon! A dragon!”

“…”

“No matter how skilled the alchemist is, they would not be able to find out the name.”

“What do you mean?”

“This is an item that does not exist. This!”

“It seems that it can’t be helped. I think the shock was pretty hard, so do you want to get back in and rest?”

“I thought that this talisman only existed in passing rumors, but to think that it really did exist. This is no ordinary item!”

“So what is its ability?”

“I shall read it as it is written. You obtain the power of a fire dragon. It says that you can use the power of the fire dragon, the dragon that is specialized only for combat. However, it does not state the activation condition.”

“No other abilities than that? When I equipped it, I definitely felt a great amount of power…”

“Yes. There’s no such thing. I also thought that due to the amount of energy the talisman was letting out, such a small amount of explanation seemed odd, but this is everything.”

“A fire dragon… A dragon, of all things. Guess it’ll have its use eventually. Well, good work.”

“Yes! Here, master. This is definitely not an item you should take lightly. My intuition is telling me so.”

“I understand.”

To be honest, finding out about the Fire Dragon’s Talisman was rather disappointing.

I definitely felt a massive amount of strength flow in.

I wasn’t able to confirm the ability, but it was the same feeling when I had defeated all of Swesi’s guards.

A mighty power almost to the point where it could be considered overwhelming.

However, from what I heard from Dan, that talisman didn’t hold any stat bonuses.

A dragon is but a dragon. What I needed right now was strength.

I desperately needed an artifact that would support my main focus of growth.

I didn’t know what kind of ability this talisman would show in the future, but it was obvious that it was of no help right now.

However, the effect of the Indomitable Talisman that Dump made for me overlapped with the effects of the Titan Boots, making it redundant and so I decided to replace talisman with the Fire Dragon’s Talisman.

“Master. Please call me again when you need me. I shall head in for now.”

“You plan on going back in? Don’t you think it’s okay to be outside with me?”

“No. After staying inside for a bit, it’s rather cozy and nice.”

“Well, do as you’re comfortable.”

“Yes. See you then. You’ll be dealing with a lot of hardship tomorrow, so please take care of yourself.”

“The plan is for tomorrow, right? I got it.”

“Yes. See you…”

Despite holding the title of Swesi’s guard captain for years, this seemed to be precisely the reason why he was weaker than the other guards.

He is laid back. On top of that, he knows how to be very satisfied with the present.

That’s why he seems to be afraid of change and focusing on getting acclimated to the current situation.

I’m sure that each person has a way they want to live, but I felt as though no one could match up to how happy he is.

There was still a lot of time left that I had set aside to hunt.

To increase my hunting speed even a bit more, I casted Cloning Jutsu.

My current Cloning Jutsu allowed three copies, as the skill level was currently around level 60 out of 100.

They weren’t currently strong enough to cause chaos in the unexplored territories yet, but I could see that they were getting stronger.

Their forms looked exactly like mine.

When I first used the skill, I couldn’t help but be surprised when I saw my copy that appeared before me fully naked.

After that, I put on a weapon and a few armor pieces without much thought just enough to cover the copy’s body.

The copies did not have any sentience, and could only be controlled by my will.

Perhaps the copies exactly copied my combat ability and sense, because the clones followed my orders extremely well.

I was also pleased by their smooth movements without delay.

Training the Cloning Jutsu skill only worked through hunting.

Instead of sharing the power I’ve obtained through hunting monsters, each clone took down the monsters themselves and grew independently by doing so.

That also meant that there were power differences between each of the clones.

Because the number of clones I could create increased as the skill level rose, it was obvious that the clone that was created the moment I had obtained the skill had the greatest strength.

Right now, they only served as support for my hunting, but I was positive that they’d become monstrous in their own right.

As explained in the skill, it is said that once the skill reaches its max rank, each of these clones would obtain unique skills.

To put it in Awakened terms, it would mean that each of them would obtain some special passive.

These clones could already cast magic infinitely.

They all had the passive of infinite mana as default, same as the original caster, but it also meant that they could obtain another special passive.

It didn’t end there. They were also able to equip artifacts.

This meant that they could be equipped with armor and weapons. I could even equip them with the Fire Dragon’s Talisman I had just obtained.

I wondered with high expectations just how much % of my strength these clones could follow up to when reaching the peak of my skill, because at the start these clones could only follow up to 50% of the caster’s strength.

Perhaps I would be able to control monstrous clones that easily surpassed my own strength in the future.

And this was why I was supplying Dump with high quality materials.

The artifacts that would be created by his hammering. It wasn’t just for me.

It would also be beneficial for the unknown number of clones I would be able to create in the future.

On top of that, I could equip my clones with similar looking artifacts in order to confuse the enemy.

Barub and I did not have abilities that allowed us to see through our opponents.

For me, who learned the Cloning Jutsu, this rule was extremely beneficial for me.

This meant that there was no way for Barub to tell who the real me was between the clones and me.

There was no way for Barub to win without getting real lucky or defeating all of us.

This was a hunting ground very far in without anyone present.

It made me wonder if there was anywhere I could be freer to train my Cloning Jutsu.

After releasing three of my clones, I commanded them.

“I’ve become a master at raising skill levels at this point. I’ll drop their health low, so just make sure you properly land your final blows. You all getting stronger means that I’m getting stronger as well after all.”

215. Their End, My Beginning

“Why is it raining so much? It’s pouring! Really pouring.”

“Master, this isn’t the time to worry about the weather. You need to be careful.”

“I can take out the hunters with ease. Do not worry. And it’s not like they’re all gathered, you know? Those on guard duty won’t be participating.”

“Even so…”

“Over there?”

“Yes. It’s the pub by the end of this road. Other than the owner, it should all just be Swesi’s hunters.”

“Good. Wait here.”

“I shall wait inside the storage.”

“Did you become attached to the storage? And did you forget already? If I die, the storage is completely destroyed. All the artifacts and you included.”

“Hey now. Did you already forget my amazing intuition? Until we charge into the headquarters, the safest place should be master’s storage.”

“Suit yourself.”

There was enough rain to drown out all the background noise nearby.

The smell of mud that I often picked up was now heavy in the air.

In the north castle gate was a cluster of pubs.

I was told that at the very north most pub was a gathering of Swesi’s hunters.

These hunters weren’t a huge threat.

It was not as if all 40 were gathered here, and they served only as prey that would give me the power I needed to take down the top 5.

I used the Iron Goat’s leather that most here used as a raincoat to cover my form.

It was partially to avoid the rain, but it was also to hide my identity.

The hunters wouldn’t be able to remember my face.

It would be the last face they’d see while being alive, so who would they be able to tell.

Maybe they could if they could speak after death.

However, I could not risk harm to the owner of the pub, so there was a need for me to hide my identity.

Without the slightest bit of hesitation, I opened the door of the pub.

“Hm?”

“…”

“What is it?”

The moment I opened the door, a strong stench of alcohol hit my nose.

It was to be expected since this was a pub, but it also meant that they had a lot of alcohol.

The hunters gave a look of suspicion and the owner of the pub ran over hurriedly after reading the mood.

With quite the troubled look, the owner spoke cautiously.

“Dear customer, I’m sorry but we’re not open today. I forgot to lock the door… Please come again at another time.”

“That’s weird. It looks like what they’re drinking is alcohol.”

“That’s… They’ve rented out the entire pu-…”

“Hey. The owner said the pub’s closed.”

“It’s been awhile since I’ve met someone so dense. Hey bro, didn’t you hear the owner tell you to get lost?”

“If you want to die old then read the mood, hmm?”

I pushed the chair back and stood up slowly.

Seeing that, the hunters snickered and talked smack.

Firstly, I had to take them all to a different place.

The stores nearby were also open right now, and due to the fact that this would be a fight between those with great power, it wouldn’t end with just a loud tussle.

Obviously, the collateral damage and the shockwave would be massive as well.

“What the? Do you want a fight or something?”

“Hey hey. Leave him be. It looks like he’s really drunk.”

“Must be tough standing guard duty all year. Should I have left a few alive or something?”

“What?”

“What is this bastard saying?”

“Wait a minute…”

“Follow me outside. Let’s not make a ruckus here.”

“All of you, detox. Whether this bastard is lying or telling the truth, this is clearly a challenge.”

“Let’s go to the hunting grounds. Don’t you think that it’d be okay even if it gets rowdy over there?”

“Arrogant fool.”

Steam came off their bodies.

Surprisingly it seemed as though they managed to get rid of all the alcohol they had consumed so far.

The scent of alcohol was so strong inside the pub that it was enough to make my nose sniffle.

As expected, the faces of the hunters that were red before regained their color.

Grabbing the weapons scattered about, each of them followed me out willingly.

While it was true that they broke the law as if it was legal, there was nothing good that would come out from attracting the attention of the average civilians.

Just like the piper who led the children out of the city, I led the hunters into the hunting grounds.

While it was a rank 1 hunting ground that was quite populated, there was a lack of people due to the late hour.

Due to the rain and even the moonlight being hidden, the area was covered in complete darkness.

As expected, the number of people coming out would be low when visibility was also very low.

Swesi’s hunters that followed me did not lower their guards once due to the worry that there would be an ambush on the way there.

It would be pretty difficult to believe that a single person would have wiped out all of the guards by themselves.

And what kind of a crazy person would taunt this many people at once by themselves?

They kept casting lightning and flame magic into the pitch darkness to light the area around.

“I’m alone. Enough with the noisy fireworks. Don’t you think this is a pretty suitable place?”

“Runt. I do not know what made you so confident that you’d do something like this, but do not make light of us hunters. You will pay greatly for doing that.”

“Two, four, six.. Thirty two in total. Thankfully not many of you are missing.”

“Formation.”

“Yes!”

The hunters formed up.

Perhaps due to being experienced Protectors, their formation didn’t have a single gap to it.

It was a circular formation that was suited for many against one.

However, they probably knew this as well.

The fact that the opponent could easily escape a formation like this.

This formation would only work against a weak opponent.

“Cast the barrier!”

“Yes!”

“Yes!”

“A barrier? Is it like a Hold or Bind spell?”

No matter what they did, I was filled with a sense of leisure.

It was because the Titan Boots would obviously block something like a barrier.

And even if the status immunity granted by the boots fails to stop the effects of the barrier, I could easily escape it using Blink.

With me as the center, they circled me.

Those positioned further in back were casting their barrier.

It was a skill that I’ve never seen before, but because these hunters were professional kidnappers, it seemed that this was a mandatory skill you needed to obtain in order to capture someone.

The barrier’s effect was similar to the spell Hold.

A bunch of webbed nets flew towards me.

The area it covered wasn’t large, but the number and the thickness of the nets were great.

“W… What? Did it not work?”

“I also have a skill that is similar to this. Seeing this made me want to show it off to you hunters.”

“I can’t move my legs! Hurry up and use Cleanse!”

“Hm. No need to do so. You soon won’t be able to move the rest of your body as well.”

“Hurry!”

I casted Hold and Bind on the thirty some hunters gathered here.

Their bodies were completely bound, just like trophies but with their breathing intact.

Because they weren’t even able to move their mouths, they were letting out yells with horrible pronunciations.

And because their chest and stomachs were hardened like stone and unable to move freely, their breaths became labored.

Their expressions were filled with shock.

It was to be expected, as these hunters were considered pretty strong within Swesi.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to state that other than the top 5, these members were what made up the power of Swesi.

Not considering those who left after being selected as bodyguards or knights of the nobles, this organization was the strongest.

And now these hotshots were unable to move and waiting for their deaths due to a single nameless man that had suddenly appeared.

“Who are you! A count? A marquis? Just what do you have against us that’s making you do this?”

“No… This guy isn’t a count or a marquis. There’s no noble with a face or voice like this!”

“You sure know well because of your connections with the higher ups.”

“How dare you fuck with Swesi!”

“Do you have families?”

“What?”

“I asked if you have families. Did you marry? Well, seeing as though all of you seem pretty old, I assume at least some of you have married.”

“What bullshit are you spouting!”

“What would you do if your child was a daughter, or became a Protector when young?”

“Stop with your pointless nonsense!”

“Probably receive some special privileges, right? Then all of you gathered here must not know the sadness of losing your family.”

“…”

“…”

“And all of you will be unable to understand until the end. It’ll be on your families to do so for you.”

“AHHH!”

“You fucker! I’ll kill you with my hands! Let me go right now!”

Most of them raised their voice with anger and threw out a bunch of swears, but a few of them seemed to have accepted their fate while letting out some tears.

It was because this had become a situation where there was no hope for them to return back alive.

My thoughts were the same.

All of them will die here today.

Anyone can have regrets too late.

What human would not have any regrets at the guillotine

They could look like they don’t have any regrets on the surface, that is true.

However, they cannot be forgiven with regrets alone.

Obviously it was flawed that someone who isn’t omnipotent was bringing judgment upon them, but I had already made my decision.

“They say that when a person dies, they go to the god of death. Until you meet the god of death, you’ll have your memories intact of your life here. Reflect while you can. Just what acts you’ve committed until now.”

“You bastard! I won’t leave you in peace even after I die!”

“Watch your words. You don’t know if you’ll run into me even in the afterlife. Since there’s only 50 days left, wait for me. I’ll let you feel a far worse agony.”

“AHHH!”

At my call, my copies appeared.

“We’ll be simultaneously pouring down AoE spells. Do not even leave a single hair of them intact. Obliterate them all.”

“…”

“…”

“…”

As if perfectly understanding my command, all three clones were waiting for my signal.

Including me, 12 attack magics would simultaneously activate at once.

Because they have copied my special passives when being created, each of them could cast 3 skills at the same time.

There might be differences in the amount of damage the skills would inflict due to the differences in growth, but it would definitely not be a pathetic attack.

With their eyes wide open, the hunters waited for their deaths.

I immediately gave the signal to the clones.

Not stalling was the least I could do to show of consideration for those who could not even close their eyes as they died.

The clones and I each poured out a massive amount of different spells.

An explosive, ear shattering shockwave that seemed enough to split the sky open rang out, and the ground shook as if there was an earthquake.

Some of the skills with complete opposite attributes did cancel each other out, but the amount of magic casted was more than enough to take the lives of the hunters without their damage.

Due to the frost and flame magic, the pouring rain evaporated, then froze up again before exploding.

In the field where the clones, the hunters, and I were present, not even the rain was able to interfere.

Perhaps a minute had passed?

There was a massive hole in the 1st tier hunting ground.

It looked as though you could convince someone that a meteor or a nuclear bomb had gone off.

It was obvious that all the hunters had lost their lives.

You could be thinking that the summoned clones would’ve taken all the power from the hunters after taking their lives.

However, as I have stated before, the clones only grew stronger after defeating monsters.

The only one who had obtained the power of the hunters was me, the original caster.

“Urk! Damn it. I just can’t get used to it.”

Just as I had experienced before, the dizziness, feeling of sickness like I was about to puke, and the temperature of my body spiking up came back.

The reason must be the same as before.

It must be because I had obtained too much power at once.

I immediately took out a King’s Marble and swallowed it.

Almost as if being reborn, my condition recovered in an instant.

“Dan. It’s taken care of. We’re heading to Swesi’s main headquarters.”

“Yes, I understand.”

“I’ll say it again, but your role in this is crucial. I assume you’re aware of this already?”

“Yes! Please believe in me. This is the path I chose. I’ll make sure to make it as sturdy as I can.”

“Such a smooth talker… I’ll summon you when I’m near.”

“Yes!”

After finishing my talk, I took out a scroll from the storage and tore it.

It was time for me to head towards Swesi’s main headquarters.

I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 213

Previous Chapter|Index|Next Chapter

213. Protector Charm

The man all out of breath in the tall grass was Raol.

His huge body was the same as I had seen before, but the armor and the shield that protected his entire body, along with his weapon, were missing, making him look like a poor beggar.

It was almost as if a war had broken out while he was sleeping and he was forced to flee with only the cloth on his back.

As I have stated before, Dump’s residence was in the remote area of the suburbs.

Not only did the merchants avoid coming this way, but the soldiers of Larkenta did not patrol here.

Seeing Raol collapsed here all of a sudden was enough to make me suspicious.

“Huff… Huff…”

“…”

“Huh? Bro… Didn’t we meet before? Please help me.”

“What’s the matter? Didn’t you say you were going to become a slave in order to participate in the festival?”

“That’s right. Huff…”

I was still a bit suspicious, but decided to cast a healing spell on Raol.

There were small cuts on his body, but I did not see any critical injuries.

It seemed that he was severely out of stamina from running away nonstop as if being chased.

As the healing continued, Raol breathing steadied back to normal, and after his anxiety cleared, laid on the ground while looking up and the sky and spoke.

“It seems like I can finally take a breather. Thank you. I won’t forget this debt.”

“It seems like you’re being chased by someone, so what’s going on?”

“You’re correct. I just ran away out of the castle.”

“Is that someone someone of a slave status can do? The castle’s surveillance only amounts to that?”

“It was a late night, and the guards who kept watch in the underground training center were missing for reasons I do not know. It’s understandable to be suspicious of me, but meeting you here is but a coincidence. Please believe me.”

“I thought it wasn’t that long since you told me with such excitement that you were going to serve under Millions?”

“There are things going on in the castle that you would never believe. Even after seeing it for myself, I had a hard time believing it.”

“…”

“I am positive that Marquis Millions is up to something. 60 Protectors that were my pals vanished in a single day. No. They were cruelly murdered.”

“…”

“Their forms, any traces of them including weapons and artifacts, everything… The only thing left was a pool of red blood that came up to my ankles.”

Raol’s eyes were twitching severely.

It was as if he could not believe what he had experienced despite talking about it.

I had thought of Demon as Barub. This incident must’ve been caused by the owner of Demon, Marquis Millions.

My anxiety became far greater.

If Demon had murdered 60 Protectors, then they would’ve grown by a massive amount, and the storm that would follow in their wake would be insane.

“Do you not know who caused it? I guess it is to be expected of someone who barely got out with his life I guess…”

“Demon… Or this is Marquis Millions’ doing.”

“What? How would you know? It’s not as if you’ve witnessed it yourself.”

“If it isn’t from an unknown third party, then only those two can deal with that many Protectors by themselves. Only they are capable of using overwhelming force to crush their opponents without leaving a trace. Past the bloodied hallway on the way out to the exit. There was only a single pair of footprints!”

“So one of them murdered all the slaves by themselves and just left? And unlike the usual, the warden of the underground training center wasn’t present…”

“That could never happen without the marquis’ orders.”

“After I took two steps, you take three? It seems that I’m not allowed to relax even for a moment.”

“Please help me bro! I need to let the world know of this.”

“Why should I?”

“…”

I looked down at Raol with cold eyes.

As if to say my answer was something that he did not expect in the slightest, he looked at me blankly with wide eyes.

This was something they brought upon themselves due to their greed.

The result was a disaster, but I did not like how he omitted his own evils and cried victim.

I am a human. Though I held powers stronger than the gods, my origin was that of a human.

While I did at least hesitate due to my humaneness at times, I wasn’t generous enough to give aid to a cause this baseless.

“Didn’t you become a slave willingly in order to try becoming the king of that oh so great festival?”

“That’s…”

“You must’ve known that the life of a slave is in the hands of the owner, no? But you still sought after him despite knowing that. And only now you will let the world know of this injustice? You’ll reveal the hidden cruelty behind the Festival of Blood?”

“Bro. Why are you like this…”

“Don’t make me laugh. You and those who have died are slaves. Slaves that have died at the hands of their owner. Do you really think that this world will deem that illegal? Wake up. If you want pity, then go complain to someone else.”

“Please don’t do this. If you turn your back on me, then I’ll be hunted for the rest of my life bro! And if you really are human, then shouldn’t you feel some kind of sympathy towards such an unjust death!”

“Fame and political power.”

“What?”

“In the path you sought after, do you think the unjustified murder and wrongdoing can be validated?”

“…”

“If you can’t answer confidently, then live quietly with your head down low. Don’t self victimize yourself and stop complaining.”

The man was in tears.

Hiding my form, I turned around coldly.

I did not know what he’d do from now on, but it didn’t have anything to do with me.

Shifting my focus away from Raol, I focused only on the growth Demon achieved.

I just couldn’t understand what caused them to suddenly grow so greedy in their growth.

But it was something that already had happened.

I had grown stronger than Demon for a brief moment, but now I was behind them in terms of power again.

And if this type of massacre kept continuing, then those who wish to become slaves would come in droves without end.

Unlike that situation, there was a limit on how much growth I could obtain from the Swesi organization.

“Time is running out. Bring out Dan.”

“You’ve called for me, master.”

“It seems that we have to speed up the plan we had set up before.”

“Are you talking about the one about the hunters? But the day they gather is already set in stone.”

“I am aware. We can’t help that. However, the day that we strike the hunters… We attack the headquarters of Swesi as well.”

“Hm… We might be rushing things but it shouldn’t be impossible.”

“4 days from now, right?”

“Yes, that’s correct.”

“During that time, your role is important. Since you know the interior of the castle down to the last detail.”

“There’s no need to worry about that. I have lived there for many years.”

“Good. Starting with Swesi and going all the way to Larkenta castle. Assist me well so that the side you invested in reaches great heights.”

“Yes!”

****

Only a day remained before I planned to smash Swesi apart.

I didn’t like him, but the meeting with Raol allowed me to discipline myself a bit more.

It was acknowledging Demon’s growth.

That was why I continued hunting the unexplored territories with my remaining time.

It was to the point where I could almost feel myself growing stronger each day.

There were just that many monsters in the unexplored territories, and they were just as powerful.

Tearing apart a scroll, I traveled immediately to a hunting ground tier I had trouble with.

Since I could only obtain help with the monsters from the first 10 tiers using the encyclopedia, I couldn’t help but be unfamiliar with the monsters that appeared here.

But I had already plunged into the unknown many times back on Earth.

I was the first human to enter without fear the portals that hadn’t been explored by the rest of humanity.

What I learned back then was that if I did not have any information regarding the enemy’s special characteristics, attack methods, or information in general, it was best to crush them with overwhelming strength.

Nothing like brute force.

With a shield that doesn’t end due to my limitless mana and a body that does not tire due to entering the realm of gods…

Because I no longer needed to eat or sleep a long time ago, I was able to hunt nonstop.

I also did not need to worry about the durability of my equipment.

It was because there was no reason for me to get hit.

It happened as I continued this systematic hunting.

I was happily able to meet an elite monster.

Due to a chance of appearance lower than how it was in the dungeon of Earth, I couldn’t help but have high expectations.

However, the strength of the elite monster was random.

This meant that an elite monster with the strength of monsters from the unexplored territories could appear in 1st tier hunting grounds.

As expected, there was no way for me to know the strength of the elite monster that had appeared before me.

However, I could tell that this elite monster was from a hunting ground tier far higher than the one I was currently in.

Since I did not need to worry about others seeing me while hunting here, I went full force with my magic.

I was honestly a bit nervous due to the elite monster surviving three Meteors when a single one of them could wipe out the guards of Swesi.

“Naga?”

The monster’s appearance was similar to the Nagas I encountered back on Earth.

The lower half of its body was a snake while the upper half was humanoid.

As expected, each of its hands held a thin sword, and from its flickering snake tongue flowed out a clear liquid.

As the liquid fell, it easily melted through the floor and the corpses of the monsters I had hunted.

While releasing a white smoke, it had melted straight through.

My assumption was that it carried an incredibly potent toxin.

Using magic, the Naga approached me while weaving through the destroyed hunting ground.

“How did I defeat that monster… I think I just had complete faith in the Titan Boot’s abnormal status condition resistance and just beat the living shit out of it.”

Approaching me quickly by traversing the uneven ground like flowing water, the Naga swung at me with its sword.

Despite having my shield, I did not allow its attack to reach me.

No matter how similar it was to the Naga back on Earth, this was another dimension known as Hell.

And since it wasn’t a weak opponent, I quickly avoided its attack.

Following that, I poured out all of my attack skills nonstop.

The hunting ground was filled with the Piercing Sword’s sword aura covered in first and flames, and even a Mana Turret was constructed.

No matter how strong it was, since I was on another level of speed, it wasn’t able to land any attacks before collapsing.

As expected, the cores came pouring out like a dam bursting, and magical marbles and skill scrolls I had never seen before dropped.

On top of that, all sorts of miscellaneous artifacts were piled into a mound.

If this was before I had learned the Mobile Storage skill, I would have shook my head just thinking about organizing all this, but it was different now.

Getting near it, I opened the storage and moved it all in.

“Organize the cores, magical marbles, and scrolls by rank.”

“Master! What’s going on? Did you hunt down an elite monster?”

“Next, the artifacts will pour in. If you can use it, feel free to take it and do so.”

“Ah, thank you very much.”

After crouching in the dark corner of the storage for so long, Dan’s face brightened up.

Just like that, all the cores, marbles, and scrolls disappeared and even the artifacts disappeared into the storage in one go.

After that, there was a sculpture the size of my thumb glowing gold that was floating above the corpse of the Naga.

I remembered what Dump had said before.

This was a Protector Talisman that dropped from elite monsters at an incredibly low rate.

I pulled out the Indomitable Talisman Dump had made before.

Then I put the talisman that the elite monster dropped into the slot.

“That’s insane.”

“Master! What happened?”

“Dan. Do you know about Protector Talismans? No wait. I don’t think anyone would know about this one.”
