I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 152

152. Ifrit (2)

“S…. Status….. Denial……”

As if leaving a will right before passing away, I casted Status Denial.

As you know, Status Denial returns the body to a state the caster wishes.

However, it could only be used on targets that haven’t died yet.

It was most effective to use it right before death.

I didn’t intend for things to end up like this, but I was in a state where I felt like I was going to stop breathing any second.

What I spoke out with my last breath, Status Denial, completely restored by body.

The skill had returned by body to a state right before my battle with Ifrit began.

The spikes that pierced my body had disappeared as if they had never been there before, and my body that was ripped and pierced were spotless without injury once more.

It had a downside of a 24 hour cooldown, but with how powerful the effect of the skill was, it was something I could live with.

The current score was 1 to 1.

Using my Reflect Shield, I had cut its core in half.

Ifrit’s attack had destroyed all my shields and brought me at death’s door.

The score was the same, but it was in my favor.

After all, Ifrit only had half its core left, but I had fully recovered.

Jong Ho must’ve also seen how pathetically I was done in.

I could not turn around to face him.

Forget shame, I didn’t have the confidence to look at Jong Ho’s expression filled with heartache and worry.

Normally, our relationship was that of constant bickering, but during times like this, you can call it a love and hate relationship?

Only after completely destroy Ifrit and looking through the drops will I be able to meet his eyes.

I gripped the Butcher’s Sword tighter in my right hand.

I casted Reflect Shield and Iron Skin at the same time, since both their cooldowns had reset thanks to Status Denial.

This was the only way, since it absorbed all forms of attacks without leaving any openings.

However, since I had been taken down once, every time it changed forms I made as much distance as possible and focused on my defenses.

After all, if I was hit by that shockwave again, I didn’t have a future.

Ifrit prepared to attack again.

Its body began to separate itself into small marble shapes.

These marble shapes covered the core and spun around it.

These orbs seemed similar to the old musket balls used back in the past.

Since this was a different pattern of attack unlike anything I’ve seen so far, I kept my distance and moved away early.

“I just need one reflection proc or groggy status effect. Attack. Give me a strong enough attack to grind away your heart.”

“Keeee!”

As soon as I finished speaking, all the bullets flew towards me at the same time.

Just like gunpowder blowing up from gunfire, the bullets gave off sounds of gunshots nonstop.

The attack was pretty quick, but it wasn’t something that I couldn’t avoid.

There was no need to receive all the attacks.

I just needed to get hit enough until the special effects from the shields triggered.

Kicking off the ground, I shot off into the air.

It was to avoid the projectiles that were being fired at me in a straight line.

Observing the amount of projectiles still covering its core, I knew that Ifrit could continue attacking like this for a very long time.

Since I needed to get rid of as much of Ifrits body that was protecting its core as possible in order to deal more damage with my attack, I bid my time.

Ifrit wasted no time in changing its attack trajectory, aiming at me in the air.

If I freefell downwards, I would eat all of its attacks.

I casted Iceberg midair to create a massive iceberg.

Afterwards, I kicked it to increase my descent downwards.

Slowly but surely, its red core was showing itself.

The core kept burning to create more projectiles.

However, perhaps due to its urge to attack being greater, the recovery speed wasn’t able to keep up with the fire rate.

“Good…. A bit more. Just a bit more!”

“Now!”

Looking at the situation, I didn’t hesitate even for a second and charged towards Ifrit.

I took on its projectiles with my body, almost as if letting my body go into the water stream of a shower.

Was it because it had lost half its life?

Unlike before, the shield was breaking down at a slower rate.

This also meant the the damage reflected back at Ifrit was reduced, but that wasn’t a huge problem.

Just one groggy status proc and everything would be over.

Finally.

“It worked!”

Suddenly, my body gave off a bright light.

This light was from the visual effect Iron Skin let out if the special effect triggered.

The projectiles that kept coming in like rainstorm suddenly stopped as if time had stopped.

It was the same with Ifrit’s body.

This being was called a monster god.

I did not know how long the groggy effect would last.

Since it was incredibly strong, I could only guess that the effect wouldn’t last very long.

However, Ifrit was a monster that did not possess any resistances.

That’s why I still had some hope that it would stay stunned for awhile.

Either way, it didn’t change the fact that I needed to finish this fight with this attack.

‘Formless Sword Aura.’

“Kuwaaaaa!”

“……..”

While I was using Formless Sword Aura to crazily swing at the core with reckless abandon, my body glowed red and gave off smoke.

The Formless Sword Aura’s Beast effect had triggered.

The effect made one fiercely attack until the enemy was reduced to nothing but dust in the wind.

Unlike the time when I faced Ghost, I did not lose my ability to reason.

Thanks to using the Beast effect multiple times, I had become skilled enough to control it to my will.

The swings of my sword increased not only in speed, but the destructive force grew to unimaginable amounts.

Until the groggy effect faded, the fierce attack continued.

I wondered how much time had passed.

Ifrit perished without even being able to make a sound.

Its core literally became dust and disappeared.

Its black form that was essentially its body turned to smoke and evaporated.

The place that it last was, only bloodstones, jewels, and artifacts were piled up.

Only after I saw the pile of loot was I sure that Ifrit had breathed its last.

It was then. As if they had been waiting for me all this time, I could hear Jong Ho and Karin’s voice.

“What the? What are these artifacts?”

“Keruruk? Min-Cheol. What happened?”

“Whew….. It was a difficult battle.”

“Is walking even hard for you nowadays? You little!”

“Kel kel kel. Min-Cheol. I think we got lucky getting all this free this time. Kel kel.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Keru…. You walked forward to defeat Ifrit and suddenly all these artifacts spilled out.”

“Was Ifrit a monster that died just by waking it from slumber using one’s killing intent? If that was the case, I should have been the one to fight it. I don’t have to thank you for your hard work this time, right?”

“What. What nonsense…. I went through hell to defeat Ifrit….. Sigh….. What a headache.”

“Kuhut. Did I not say that it will be a battle only between you two……”

“……”

“Karin.”

“Speak, Jong Ho.”

“For now, please start organizing the pile of loot for us.”

“Kerururu. I understand. Now, I can do this with my eyes closed. It’ll be done soon, so wait just a bit.”

“Yeah, you’re the one putting in the most amount of effort. Min-Cheol, why are you just standing there blankly?”

“Did….. time stop or something…..”

“If we can defeat these monster gods so easily, shouldn’t we hurry and find the rest?”

“Hyung-nim, did you really not see anything?”

“What do you mean?”

“Did you not see my body being torn apart like old rags, my body thrashing against all the spikes and bullets stuck to my body. Did you not hear the sound of gunfire….. I nearly died!”

“Did you watch a war film before you came over to the demonic realm or something? Do you have narcolepsy? How did you dream in between that time.”

“Belkoseu, did you also not see anything?”

“Kuhut. Of course, I also didn’t see anything. You simply walked towards Ifrit. Afterwards, the materials that you all desperately need were piled there.”

“Ha…… I think I’m going crazy.”

“Karin, where is Barun right now?”

“Kerut. Since he headed towards Earth in the afternoon, it won’t take long before he returns. And he’ll be back with plenty of steak. Kel kel kel.”

“Looks like we’ll need more employees? Just look at how much loot is stacked here.”

“Keruruk. I shall let them know.”

“As expected, you defeated the Demon God Ifrit.”

“……..”

“No one here has seen your battle with Ifrit. Once you are selected by the Demon God, you are dragged into their own personal dimension. It’s a dimension that is completely isolated. Until only one is alive, the barrier separating the dimensions will not dissipate. For those observing outside of the barrier, time flows differently. It flows so differently that they aren’t able to even imagine what you just went through.”

“Actually it’s better this way. There was a scene in the middle of it that I didn’t want to show anyone.”

“Kuhut. The Demon Gods we’ll be meeting from here on out will be stronger than Ifrit. Can you handle them?”

“Do you see what Karin is sorting through right now? I’m not sure what is in there, but if I hit the jackpot, defeating the rest of the monster gods won’t be even a challenge, so don’t worry.”

“Good…… It is as I had hoped.”

“Kel kel! Look at this. The sorting is already done.”

“Nice. As expected of Rin. Hurry over here and check out what we got, Min-Cheol.”

“Yes….. The one who has done nothing is coming.”

“Right. Hurry over. Whew. Just look at how much Rin worked up. Good work. Let’s have a party with steak today as well.”

“Kerururuk.”

“I don’t know why, but I feel sad and resentful…… Am I just imagining it?”

****

“I expect that you won’t stand against my decision to release the Chimera any longer, Ladin.”

“It is as you say, Demon King. To think that they’ve taken down a Demon God…..”

“It is my fault for not being decisive earlier. I must summon the Chimera immediately…..”

“However, Demon King, humans are unable to use magical energies, yes? And the Demon God Ifrit does not even have any magical energies…. Even if the human and Belkoseu worked together to take down the monster god, there’s nothing for them to gain from it, is there not?”

“Ladin…. I have seen him. The human that took down the Kelvecore.”

“What do you mean…….”

“The human took something from the corpse of the Kelvecore. For that prize, he even took one of my attacks. I concluded that whatever he took was worth risking his life for.”

“………”

“For whatever reason it may be, that is probably why the human is going after not only monsters, but Demon Gods as well.”

“So you’re saying that this human is not hunting for bloodstones, but something else?”

“That’s right, Ladin.”

“Yes, Demon King.”

“In a brief moment, I shall be undoing the seal on the Chimera.”

“Ah…. It is as you say.”

“Until then, hide your magical energy signature as much as possible.”

“Yes.”

“We cannot become targets of the Chimera, after all. All we need to do is wait and see the Chimera take care of the problematic humans and Belkoseu completely.”

“…….”

The demon king waited, giving time for Ladin to hide his magical energy signature.

Just like Berdan had done, Ladin hid as much of his magical energy as possible.

The Demon King then raised both his hands and spoke.

“As Demon King, I command……”

150. Ifrit

Belkoseu led us to what once was Zekill’s land, a look of confidence filling his face.

If the demonic realm was to be categorized in the four cardinal directions, then our base camp was located in the north, in the heart of what was once Berdan’s territory.

Zekill’s land was located in the opposite direction, which was in the south.

Unlike Earth, the demonic realm wasn’t a spherical planet.

It was a flat dimension.

This meant that you could not return to the same spot by constantly moving in a single direction.

You could say that it was as if a world map was laid flat on the ground.

Of course, the scale was far beyond comparison.

To travel from north to south, a massive amount of distance needed to be covered.

It was obvious, since the demonic realm was beyond comparison in terms of size compared to Earth.

I was thankful of how fast Belkoseu moved.

Despite not having a massive amount of magical energy, he was able to move at speeds similar to me.

I suspected that it was one of his Authorities.

Just like that, he ran for two days before reaching down in the southern area.

Other than time spent to eat and sleep, all of the time was used to move.

This territory had now become that of Ladin’s.

However, since Ladin was with the Demon King in the Demon King’s castle, which was located in the central area of the demonic realm, he probably couldn’t help but take poor care of this area.

Unlike the other areas, this place was still.

This area should’ve been filled with bustling monsters, but there were only a few moving about.

It was probably because Ladin, who had received in territory at the decree of the Demon King, had drained this area of its magical energy.

I was thinking this was a good place to create a Gate, but I didn’t get to continue that thought for long.

Belkoseu took in a deep breath before looking at a single direction.

He then pointed at that spot while speaking.

“There.”

“It was quite a distance to travel. Are we here now?”

“There. At the ends of the demonic realm, there lies what you seek.”

“We’ve been traveling to the point of exhaustion to get this far, but we need to go further?”

“Kuhuut. You won’t be disappointed, so trust me and follow.”

“Hm…… If this results in disappointment, then you can consider this alliance over. We’ve invested a great amount for a couple hours of hunting.”

“Are you speaking about how the Demon King is chasing after us?”

“Of course. It won’t take long before the Demon King will find us again, and we’ll have to retreat back to base camp…….”

Agitated was the Demon King, to the point where we could not let down our guard for even a moment.

Monsters did not have the need for food or sleep like humans did.

Since they did not eat or sleep, I knew that it wouldn’t take long for them to catch up to us.

But thanks to what Belkoseu said in the following moments, I felt somewhat less worried than before.

“Do not worry. This area is forbidden to entry, even amongst us demons.”

“…….”

“One of the guardian gods of the demonic realm, Ifrit, sleeps here. Despite how fast the Demon King catches on, it’ll be days after we are done here that he will notice.”

“Keruru. Ifrit? I have never even heard of them before.”

“It’ll be only for a short while, but you’ll be able to see them with your own eyes. Their magnificent existence that is.”

“It seems the monsters serve this being with utmost care, so I assume that they’re also very strong? Can I even take them down?”

“For someone who took down two of the demonic tribe leaders, your words are quite humble.”

“…..”

“If what I saw in you is correct, you have enough power to take down Ifrit. However, it will be a difficult fight.”

“There’s no business before a beatdown. Jong Ho-hyung, stand behind me and just pour down magic on them. I’ll block their attacks.”

“Don’t worry about that.”

“Kuhut. Sadly, that won’t be happening.”

“Why is that?”

“The moment that Ifrit’s existence materializes, only the one who awakened them can see their form. From then on, a battle that only they could partake in will begin. The dimension or spatial area won’t change though……. You’ll soon understand what I mean, so don’t be hasty.”

“Touch the whiskers of a sleeping lion? I guess that’s something I’ll have to take care of.”

“Kuhut. So it seems.”

“Whew…. So I’ll have to remain a spectator again? Sorry Min-Cheol. Seems you’ll have to struggle for our sake again.”

“I was hoping for this. After all, I don’t know how strong they are.”

Jong Ho’s face was colored in disappointment.

With suspicion filling his expression, he stared at Belkoseu and asked.

“Hey, Belkoseu. Are you sure that Min-Cheol has a chance to win?”

“Human, have you forgotten? Without him, I cannot gain the power I desire.”

“……”

“Wait, Belkoseu.”

“Hm?”

“If I heard correctly…… You said that this is one of the guardian gods? Then other than Ifrit here….”

“Kuhat. Did I say that? It is as you think, human.”

“You’re quite good at tying up loose ends, aren’t you? I like it.”

“This won’t be an easy opponent. However, the rewards will be grand. As I have told you, they have survived in the demonic realm for this long. I shall stop the small talk here. Then…..”

“He speaks only his mind, with no time for replies. Well, let us go as well.”

“Kerut!”

****

It didn’t take long before we arrived at the edge of the demonic realm’s southern area.

The demonic realm we have seen so far was covered in purple light.

However, the edge of the realm was covered in pitch black darkness.

Almost as if telling us that it was the edge of the world, we could clearly tell where the realm ended.

The two different colors clearly showed the separation between the two zones.

However, no matter where I looked, I could not see Ifrit.

I had definitely followed Belkoseu’s guidance.

Not only that, but he had a mysterious smile on his face.

I quickly asked him.

“Just where is this Ifrit?”

“Seems you’re in quite a hurry. Here. This is the way to the Masin Castle where Ifrit resides.”

“There isn’t anywhere we can go further, so what are you talking about?”

“Kuhuut.”

At my question, instead of answering with words, he showed me with his actions.

Without any hesitation, he tossed his body off the edge of the demonic realm.

It was a sight that made me wonder if I would fall down straight into the depths of hell if I followed suit.

And it wasn’t just me that felt this way.

Jong Ho and Karin both could not hide their shock, merely looking at me for an explanation.

“Just because he has an immortal body, he’s being reckless. Karin.”

“Kerut?”

“Is it okay for me to follow him?”

“Keruu….. I am not sure either. I have never encountered such an event.”

“Min-Cheol, are you sure this is okay? Common sense is telling me that all this was just him committing self destruction, you know?”

“…….”

With one hand, I casted Explosion.

A ball of black intense heat and flame floated above my hand.

The next thing I did was to cast it at the direction that Belkoseu tossed his body towards.

After all, it was dangerous to just blindly trust the words of a monster.

The intense ball of flame flew at great speed, hitting something and causing a massive explosion.

The flames brightened the area, showing a path that I couldn’t see before due to the darkness covering it.

The Explosion’s bright light also revealed Belkoseu’s form to us.

He was looking at us with a bemused smile.

With this, I knew that it was safe to proceed.

“It seems it’s okay. There’s a path below here.”

“Is that so? Then…..”

“Let’s go. Karin , hold onto me.”

“Kerut! Understood.”

“Oho. I thought you’d find an excuse to avoid this, but I’m surprised.”

“We’re family! We go together!”

“That’s right. Let us go, hyung-nim.”

“Whew….. Let’s go. The worst that can happen is death, right?”

“We won’t die, silly.”

“Every day, I thought out my will and erased it from my mind dozens of times. I’m fortunate that I haven’t broken down mentally at this point.”

“Pfft. Stay strong. It’ll be over soon.”

“I’ll believe in you. Let’s go!”

“Yes!”

“It is here.”

“Keh… Kehruruk!”

Inside the darkness, where not a single ray of light was to be found, I focused an electric spell that glowed brightly in my hand.

It acted as a torchlight.

After lighting up the darkness around me, I could finally see the structures around me.

Almost as if it was a different dimension from the demonic realm, I could see a path that was dosed in golden light.

At the end of the path, there was something huge there.

It must be the so called Ifrit.

My astonishment at the scene didn’t last long, and Belkoseu spoke once more.

“That’s it. The Demon God Ifrit.”

“What is that…. Fungi? Ashes? I see a dark shadowy form, but I’m not too sure. I guess it’s hard to put into words?”

“I think you could call it smoke and it wouldn’t be wrong? It seems like smoke is rising from its main form as well……”

“Keruut. I do not even sense magical energy from it. I don’t think its existence is a part of this world. Kehruk!”

“What are you doing? Are you just going to observe it?”

“I guess you’re not as calm and collected as I thought you were. So I have to wake it from its slumber?”

“That’s right. It’ll be enough letting out your killing intent and approaching it to have it awaken.”

“Then everyone else, don’t come any closer and wait here.”

“Be careful, Min-Cheol.”

“Keruut…… I’ve got a bad feeling about this….. Min-Cheol, be careful.”

“Kuhut. You all worry for nothing. The difference in strength is so minuscule that it is almost impossible to see, but this human will win. However, even the smallest mistake will decide the outcome between victory and defeat.”

“Why don’t you just narrate this whole thing? Let’s go. When I give the signal, please come and help me pick up the loot.”

As I walked closer to Ifrit, I could hear the sound of something burning away into a crisp.

It sounded as if straw or dry firewood was being burnt.

I could finally see its form clearly.

Black smoke.

There was no other way to explain it.

Explained in terms of a human anatomy, a fiery core similar to a heart continued to burn at the center of its body, and the smoke from the flame seemed to make up its body.

I could clearly see its form, yet it did not have a solid form.

As Belkoseu said before, it seemed to move after sensing my killing intent I was giving off.

In an instant, countless eyes formed on its smoky form.

Making quite the disturbing racket, all eyes busily searched around the area.

However it didn’t take long before all of them locked on to me.

Its appearance definitely fit the title of a monster.

Only in one’s imagination could anyone think of something with such an appearance.

Turning into a perfectly spherical form, its floating giant body filled my sight.

It seemed that it was at least 10m wide.

Looking at Ifrit’s unblinking eyes, I spoke.

“Did you sleep well?”

“……”

“If you’re going to complain about being woken up, I’ll listen.”

“…….”

“You can whine and throw a fit, but…….”

“…….”

“You’ll have to give me everything you have. Everything that you’ve gathered over those countless years that is.”

151. Ifrit (2)

Ifrit had fully woken up from its slumber.

Perhaps reacting to my killing intent, it immediately readied itself for battle.

All of the countless eyes on its body all disappeared without a trace.

Instead of the eyes, spikes started to grow out from where the eyes once were, becoming something akin to a chestnut.

Perhaps it was due to fighting countless monsters before?

Its method of attack began to reveal itself to me.

Will the spikes fly towards me?

Or will it charge at me instead?

Either way, I’ll need a shield.

Mana Shield, a shield that absorbs most attacks.

No matter how long its been living, a monster is just a monster.

Since it isn’t anything like a demon king, there’s no way it would be able to pierce my Transcended Mana Shield.

Seeing its form and wondering about how to attack Ifrit, I remembered what Belkoseu ranted about before to me.

He had told me that it wouldn’t be an easy battle.

Even said that a single mistake would decide between victory and defeat.

It was true that I didn’t have any information regarding Ifrit.

“He should’ve told me how it attacks or at least how to defeat it. Making me all nervous for nothing…..”

Even though I said that, I guess I’m human after all.

Quickly reconsidering my plans, I had casted Reflect Shield and Frozen Shield.

My preparation to defend myself against its attacks was complete.

Now it was time to prepare the attacks that I would launch against Ifrit.

There really wasn’t a need to think that part through though.

All it would take was to pull out my main skill, the one that boasted an insane amount of damage.

Without a single moment of hesitation, I casted Meteor Call and smashed it into Ifrit.

“Oho…. Does this mean that Ifrit will just face tank my attacks?”

6 meteors had struck Ifrit directly.

The sound and shockwave from all 6 meteors exploding at once was enough to overshadow most battlefields.

Due to all the meteors landing on the same target, the explosive radius wasn’t as large as usual, but the damage would be insane.

However, after the flames cleared, Ifrit showed itself once more in front of me.

One could think that the attack was pointless, but there definitely was a huge benefit for me.

After all, in that short amount of time, I was able to clearly see its movement.

This included its form and the core that resided in the center.

If the smoke that made up its for was akin to bones and flesh, then the core at its center was its heart.

That’s why it had curled itself up into a protective stance, defending itself against my attack.

Even so, to think that it had enough of a defensive capabilities to block my Meteor.

That was enough to surprise me for sure.

Ifrit’s core kept burning, letting out dense smoke to recover its form with.

With how things turned out, I knew that a straightforward attack wouldn’t work against it.

I needed to come up with something special.

I could cast two different spells at the same time.

This of course, was excluding the 3rd slot I needed to keep casting Mana Shield.

Since I knew that it probably wouldn’t just sit there and receive my attacks forever, I could not give up that 3rd slot to keep casting Mana Shield.

In the battlefield that was covered in golden light, a sphere pitch black as night floated once more.

Not letting the Meteor fall down right away, I let it hover in the air for a bit.

It was to check for its reaction.

“I’m using the same pattern of attack. It now knows that it’ll fall at incredible speeds though? But it’s still not moving?”

“I had considered the possibility, but…… The very moment that the meteors fall… It thinks of defending itself and moves instantly?”

Its movements were enough to make me question what I was seeing.

Meteor really struck in the blink of an eye.

At my will and command, it struck as quick as lightning.

However, despite seeing the meteors floating in the air, it didn’t prepare itself to defend at all.

This meant that it changed its body to block the attack in the split second that the Meteors flew in.

Was it because it was a monster? No. It was a reaction speed that was worthy of the title, God of Monsters.

This meant that despite successfully landing my attacks, I wouldn’t be able to avoid a difficult battle.

“Huh?”

“………”

In a split second, it was right next to me.

However, it was just the core.

For a moment, I had thought that it was acting out of its mind, showing me such a vulnerability.

Before I could attack, countless spikes flew towards me.

These spikes were the ones that were sticking out from its body.

Thankfully, my shields held, but the spikes only had stopped after going through my Mana Shield and heavily damaging my other shields.

This meant that its attacks had the same effect as a skill beyond ranking that an Awakened could use.

It was then.

“Keeeeheck!”

Is this what they call being lucky?

Towards Ifrit’s core that was recovering its body at incredible speeds, the attack that came at me was returned back at it.

It was due to the counterattack ability on the Reflect Shield.

The level of the shield was 300 after Transcending it.

It had a 70% chance to reflect and the reflected damage dealt 80% of the original damage received.

If my Reflect Shield held up, Ifrit could have perished on the spot.

Unfortunately, the Reflect Shield was destroyed before the Frozen Shield, so it could not fully reflect all the damage I had received.

However, since the amount of spikes were countless, the amount of damage it received was severe.

The core still had the color of burning flame, but it seemed very cold now.

Perhaps due to the attacks that found its way through the gaps, it looked like the blackspots of the sun exploding.

I couldn’t let such an opportunity go.

Following this momentum, I put additional pressure with my attacks.

Just like the time I fought with the Kelvecore in the demonic realm, instead of opting for an attack pattern, I just poured down as many attacks as possible indiscriminately.

It didn’t matter if the type of attack was fire, ice, lightning, holy, or even physical, for I used every attack I had, filling the battlefield to the brim.

To the observer, the attacks were spectacular and beautiful like fireworks, but to the receiver, the attacks displayed enough force to send them to the gates of Hell.

After all, I had Awakened, Transcended, and increased the strength of my skills to their maximum.

One thing that was amusing was that unlike the average monster that carried some form of resistance against certain attacks, this monster god carried none.

It received damage from all types of attacks, and I could sense all my spells landing direct hits.

Just like that, my barrage of skills came to a stop.

To confirm the form of Ifrit that could not be detected even through the Eye of Insight, I made some distance between us and waited for a bit.

The sound of its screams when its attacks were reflected back at it had stopped quite some time ago.

The area was reduced to ashes, becoming silent.

“I guess that at least hurt you somewhat?”

“…….”

I could see that its fiery red core had shrunk somewhat in size.

The glow of that fire probably signified its life force.

Also, its body that was over 10m in size had noticeably shrunk as well.

Waiting for the cooldown of the Reflect Shield that allowed me to launch an attack beyond my expectations, I casted Holy Block and Iron Skin.

Both these skills also had special effects attached to them.

For Holy Block, there was a low chance to deal a high amount of holy damage as retaliation, with the amount of damage being difficult to defend against.

Let’s assume that for Ifrit, who has an insane reaction speed, it would be able to defend against this much.

However, what about the special effect on the Iron Skin?

Iron Skin puts the enemy in a groggy state.

It was a status effect that could not be defended against.

So even though the activation chance was low, it could put the enemy in a defenseless state for a brief moment.

Not only would it be unable to attack, but I could dish out my attacks without it being able to resist.

Since it blocked my attacks perfectly, my plan was to receive its attacks and allow the effects of the shield to assist me.

Despite its size being reduced, its anger seemed to have grown larger.

Because I was in a situation where I had to receive its attacks, I casted single fire spells to enrage it further.

Just like that, Explosion and Holy Missile flew towards its form.

The damage dealt by these spells were weak compared to my main spell, but since I could cast them from both my hands individually without delay, it probably was annoying to say the least.

And with Explosion, the intense flames wouldn’t subside until the target’s body was reduced to ashes.

Its body was now covered in red flames all over.

However, since I needed to give it a chance to attack me, I made sure to keep a decent tempo and not to overdo it.

While that was happening, Ifrit, blocked all my attacks with its body.

I waited for it to attack for a bit.

However, its form changed into a sturdy sphere.

“What the….. From its shape, it seems like it’s only going to defend itself?”

“……”

Like the shell of an egg protecting its yolk, it completed covered its core.

Perhaps due to the continued attack, it had lost its resolve to retaliate?

I concluded it so and began to increase my attacks in order to break its defenses.

It was then.

“Huh!”

In a split second, my mind went blank.

I was so dumbstruck that I couldn’t attack at all, standing there with a blank look on my face.

It had become a perfect sphere.

Suddenly, its body exploded.

Confirming what was happening with my eyes, I did my best to make distance between myself and the explosion.

However…

This was an explosion I have never seen before.

It was as if all the air around the area was being compressed into a small space and then suddenly exploded.

Due to the shockwave from the explosion, it undid all of my shields.

It was almost as if I had been hit by an EMP shockwave.

All my shields were dispelled and on top of that, it put me under a panic status effect.

Also since it was a singular attack, the Iron Skin’s groggy status effect that had a low chance to trigger didn’t go off.

Afterwards.

“Huhuck!”

Turning back into its spiky form, it charged into me.

With the most recent item I received, Minotaur’s Hoof, I received a total of 70% damage reduction with this gauntlet.

This meant that I received roughly a quarter of the actual damage.

However, it was still difficult to receive Ifrit’s attack with my body.

With my entire body stabbed and pierced all over, I was barely breathing.

If I didn’t have this much of a damage reduction, I was sure that I wouldn’t be even breathing right now.

Thanks to receiving all of its spike attacks, I was able to finally escape the panic status effect that it had put on me from its previous attack.

I had received too much damage.

I wasn’t able to lift a finger while being torn apart into a rag.

I thought that I’d be in incredible pain, but that wasn’t the case.

Perhaps it was because before death, a massive amount of hormones was released?

I felt weirdly peaceful and drowsy, but my mind was on overdrive.

It was enough to allow me to make decisions several times more clear and level headed than usual.

There wasn’t much to do in this situation.

Rather, my choices were rather limited?

Grabbing onto what little life that seemed about to extinguish at any given moment, I let out a whisper.

“S… Status…. Denial…..”

149. Butterfly Effect

It had almost been a month since we’ve been hunting while being chased down by the Demon King and Ladin.

As the days went on, their chase became fiercer, and our methods of escape improved.

The hide and seek to increase Belkoseu’s magical energy continued.

Perhaps due to the finite amount of magical energies present in the demonic realm, we could not increase Belkoseu’s magical energy as quickly as we had hoped.

It might be because I had absorbed Berdan and Zekill’s magical energies already.

I basically had at least 20% of the magical energy in the demonic realm.

This meant that no matter how many monsters with the magical energy pool worthy of a possible future demon king he took, if he did not obtain the magical energy of Ladin, then he could never face up against the Demon King Jamon.

Noticing that, the two of them stayed together at all times, moving together to hunt us down.

In order to take down Ladin, we had to separate him from the Demon King.

We had thought that all we had to do was to focus on Belkoseu’s growth, but it was no longer the case.

To summarize our plan, it went something like this.

First, I needed to grow strong enough to be able to keep the Demon King occupied on my own.

Second, make sure that Jong Ho becomes strong enough to be able to face off against Ladin without me.

Third, have Belkoseu obtain Ladin’s magical energy and have him defeat the Demon King.

Fourth, use Eternal Rest to defeat Belkoseu.

Fifth, return back to Earth.

The way to accomplish our goal was that we all had to grow stronger.

Belkoseu, who experienced first hand the results of our hunting, must realize this as well.

At the rate we were going, before he could grow strong enough, he would be captured by the Demon King and Ladin.

While we were returning to base camp, I spoke to Belkoseu.

“You know, our growth rate is too slow as far as I can tell.”

“Kuhuum….. It seems that the flow of magical energy is far more concentrated in the demonic realm than I had originally thought.”

It seemed that he was thinking along the same lines as I.

Stopping his walk, he spoke as he stared intensely at me.

I think I knew what his intense gaze meant.

“I guess one of those sources include me, right?”

“That is correct. That magical energy that you cannot even use… If we could find a way to transfer it over to me…..”

“You already know, but life isn’t so convenient like that. I guess there isn’t a way to transfer it.”

“Kuhuut. Aren’t you the one who knows that fact best? That there isn’t a way to take it without killing the target.”

“With how things turned out, you have to obtain Ladin’s magical energy…. But to do that, we need to separate the Demon King from him.”

“It sounds like you’re hinting at me to teach you a way to grow stronger quickly.”

“You catch on fast enough to scare me, you know? You’re really good at reading the mood. That’s right. A method to get us stronger. We need one that is a surefire way. I think you know why that’s the case, right?”

“That’s right. And one of our conditions for our alliance was that too.”

“So you’ll honor your word? That’s a welcome surprise for me.”

“Does that mean that I need to hand over the monsters with massive pools of magical energy instead of killing them myself?”

“They won’t drop that many artifacts. You know how picky are with that stuff, right? What we want is a monster that is one of the strongest of the demonic realm. Someone like you, for example.”

“Kuhu….. Kuhahat. To think that we, who have formed an alliance, want each other’s life…. How ironic.”

“Even if you help us become stronger as I have requested, there won’t be any downsides for you, right?”

“Well….. You cannot kill me. But when I become stronger than you…..”

“No matter the outcome, I lose out.”

“You’re good with words. I shall search for monsters that drop a lot of artifacts as you have requested.”

“Now we’re getting somewhere. But do you have a way to do so?”

“I guess this is information that you haven’t heard from even the likes of Karin.”

As if surprised, he looked towards Karin while speaking.

There’s information that even Karin, our informant in the demonic realm, doesn’t know about?

Under Berdan, Karin was a monster that has obtained a vast amount of knowledge regarding the demonic realm.

For Jong Ho and I, his words were nearly equivalent to the demonic realm’s law.

Karin seemed quite surprised as well.

“Keruuu?”

“Do you really not know? Existences similar to the Chimera, that is…..”

“Kerut? Aren’t those types of creatures only able to be summoned by the demon king?”

“That is correct. However, he isn’t the only one who fulfills the role of guardian in the demonic realm.”

“Kehel…..”

“Karin, even you aren’t aware of this?”

“That’s right. I knew of the Chimera’s existence….. However, what he’s saying right now, I have not even heard rumors of before.”

“Is that so. Isn’t this getting interesting? Hurry up and tell us. I don’t think you understand just how curious I am about their existences.”

“Kuhut. I guess you won’t have any reason to regret our alliance.”

“Ha. Look at you, really throwing a nice sales pitch. I knew that you were anything but ordinary.”

“Kuhat. Then…..”

****

“Demon King. Thankfully, it seems that Belkoseu’s magical energy hasn’t grown that much.”

“Yes. However, what I am worried about is the growth of the two humans. As long as you aren’t done in by Belkoseu, he cannot obtain the power he needs to take over the demonic realm. However, if the two humans grow in strength and assist Belkoseu in striking you down….”

“…….”

In an instant, Ladin’s expression became serious.

There weren’t any falsehoods in what the Demon King said.

However, unlike his expression, Ladin wasn’t that worried.

If his magical energy was to be obtained by Belkoseu, who would be the next target?

It would be the Demon King.

Ladin knew well that to prevent such a thing from happening, the Demon King would protect him well.

As Ladin had expected, the words that he wanted to hear began to come out from the Demon King’s mouth.

“However, what you are worrying about won’t happen. I shall stop it from happening. Ladin, it has been a month since we have dropped everything to hunt down these humans.”

“……”

“But what have we obtained during this entire month!”

“That’s……”

“We weren’t able to focus on the war we had planned and prepared for at all.”

“You are right as rain. We must take them down as soon as possible…..”

“You have seen it yourself. Their crafty trickery…… Using strange magic, they have escaped us time and time again. On top of that, they have allied themselves with a monster to detect our magical energy ahead of time. We have no way of catching them at all.”

The Demon King was talking about how Min-Cheol and Jong Ho were using Warp to escape his grasp.

For the demonic race that had no information regarding the Awakened and their skills, it was no surprise that the only way they could refer to them as strange magics.

“It is as you say.”

“We carry enough strength to upheave this entire realm yet we cannot catch them.”

“I apologize for my ineptitude.”

“But you are still against releasing the seal on the Chimera…..”

“Demon King, anything but that…..”

While Ladin spoke with the Demon King, his gaze was only pointed at the floor.

However, at the mention of the single word “Chimera” by the Demon King, Ladin stared at him while looking as if he was going to convulse at any given moment.

It was unsettling for the Demon King to see Ladin like this.

“I cannot understand why. The release window on the Chimera isn’t that long. You know of this as well.”

“I am aware. However……”

“Are you afraid of its ruthlessness? Are you afraid that you and I will be done in by it?”

“……”

“Speak.”

“Demon King, are you aware of how I rose to the throne of Demon King before?”

“Hm? Even I am not aware of that. But why do you ask all of a sudden? Well, you aren’t the type to waste time taking a trip down memory lane…. Continue.”

“Then….  I shall proceed with the information that you are not aware of how I rose to the seat of Demon King.”

“That is correct.”

“Before a lowly one such as myself rose to the throne of the Demon King, the demonic realm was dominated by the one named Seu Reol.”

“Hm….. I think I have heard of this through rumors.”

“Is that so? The demonic realm in the past was quite different from the current one. Six leaders, each with their own demonic tribe, were present before, unlike now, where a single ruler rules with absolute power, such as yourself, oh great Demon King Jamon.”

“…..”

“The war to take the throne of Demon King continued, and the title of Demon King changed hands dozens of times every single day. A single victory from battle could determine who the next Demon King was…… But even during all these battles, there was one thing that the leaders forbade doing. Despite how heated the battle was, they still refused.”

“Hm……”

“That was the act of unsealing the Chimera. Even if it meant losing the seat of Demon King, they refused to use their Authority to unseal the beast.”

“This is making me uncomfortable. So what are you trying to say?”

“The one I spoke of before, Seu Reol, broke that taboo. The moment that he obtained the title of Demon King, he immediately unsealed the Chimera. He did so to obliterate the other leaders…..”

“Get to the point.”

“All the leaders perished.”

“What…..? Is that the truth?”

“That is so. The 5 leaders, as well as the Demon King Seu Reol. None of them survived, dying to the Chimera. The Chimera’s instinct is to search and destroy anyone with a high amount of magical energy. The range and accuracy of its ability to search out its targets cannot even be compared to that of any other monsters.”

“Kuhmm…….”

Jamon was unable to hide his surprise, and at the same time, felt greatly insulted.

Ladin was comparing him to the weak demon race of the past.

However, barely pushing down his boiling anger, the Demon King waited for Ladin to finish his story.

“Just like that, all those with massive amounts of magical energy in the demonic realm perished, returning the demonic realm to a state similar to ancient times. The newly born demonic races began to compete for the seat of Demon King instead. During that time, I was the one to rise to the seat of Demon King.”

“Is the Chimera’s strength…… Is it really that powerful?”

“That is the case. That is why I still caution you of this idea. So Demon King, please consider this once more.”

“However, you said that the six were evenly matched, right?”

“……”

“Look at me now. I am the Demon King Jamon! I have nearly half the magical energy of this realm. You say that even I will die to it?”

“I cannot be sure of…..”

“You! Such insolence!”

The Demon King finally blew up with fury.

He was upset that Ladin did not acknowledge his strength.

He stared down Ladin and spoke.

“…….”

“It is the Authority and right of the Demon King to be able to release the Chimera! It is one of the many Authorities the Demon King carries. Thus, the monster is nothing more than a slave, serving me at my whim!”

“D…. Demon King. Please calm yourself.”

“However, you say that I, Demon King, will be done in by a mere slave? Tsk! You speak like a fool, Ladin!”

“…….”

“10 days from now! If we’re unable to capture them till then, I shall release the Chimera.”

“Demon King……”

“Silence! This is a command, Ladin. If you wish to disobey, then you shall pay with your life!”

“…… Understood, Demon King.”

At last, Ladin bowed down to the will of his Demon King.

However, the Demon King had no idea of how much chaos and destruction the words he spoke and the choice he made would cause.

For the humans…. And even to his kind.

148. Goblin Talk

“Commander! The Gate is vibrating!”

“……”

“What shall we do?”

“Have all forces prep for battle. It seems that the war will resume.”

“It was calm for awhile, but now……”

“The vibrations are getting stronger. Everyone, do let down your guard! The battle is not yet over!”

“Yes, commander!”

“Understood!”

At the general’s command, all forces readied themselves for battle.

A couple days ago, a massive number of monsters poured out the Gate.

Due to that event, several Awakened lost their lives, and many more were heavily injured.

However, humanity was able to stop the wave of monsters with their own strength.

No one knew how much longer this war was to last.

On top of that, no one could be certain who the victor of this war would be.

However, everyone worked together with one goal and purpose, relying on each other every day to stay alive.

“All forces, cast your shields and buffs! Sang-Ho and Geon.”

“Yes, commander.”

“Hm?”

“Please take the front.”

“What’s up with gramps? Have you not recovered yet fully?”

“I shall do my best to prevent casualties in the backline.”

“Gotcha. Let’s go.”

“…….”

At the general’s command, all forces cast their buffs and shields.

Due to thousands of Awakened casting their spells at once, the sound was deafening.

The sound filled the entire mountain area, which could even be described as grand.

The wait for the monsters to exit the Gate was short.

Geon, who had been standing in the frontlines, urgently sought after the commander.

“C…. Commander! The situation is a bit strange!”

“What’s the matter! Just what monster appeared that has you in such shock!”

“T…. That’s…….”

“Old man! I think this is something you should see for yourself?”

“Damn……”

Abandoning his position, he ran up towards the Gate.

His direct subordinates in his squad were Sang-Ho and Geon.

Their combat prowess were not only one of the highest in Korea, but in the entire world as well.

These were the same two that were looking for his guidance with such confusion evident in their faces.

The commander had thought that the monster that had appeared was far stronger than expectations.

The commander arrived near the Gate.

And then merry laughter broke the silence, echoing through the mountains.

“Kuhhuhuhuhuhuh! Kahha! The sight couldn’t be more welcoming! Kuhuhuh!”

Three goblins stood in front of the Gate.

Holding a makeshift white flag, they showed that they had no intentions to fight.

How did the goblin monsters know what it meant to wave a white flag, or why did they carry the duffel bags that Min-Cheol and Jong Ho had taken with them.

The commander could figure it out in an instant.

These goblins were servants sent by Min-Cheol.

The goblins carefully approached the commander.

They all dropped the large duffel bags before the commander, and then one of them spoke up.

“The great Karin sent us here.”

“Karin?”

“Kururu. He has told us to send you these.”

“Karin… Have you perhaps seen any humans next to the one named Karin?”

“Kuruk. There were two who called themselves Min-Cheol and Jong Ho next to him.”

“Kuhhuhhuh! Right. You all have come here under their directions.”

“Yep. Kuku. But firstly, this…..”

The commander looked at the duffel bags that they had laid at his feet.

The bags were filled with bloodstones in numbers far beyond what he could guess.

All of the stones were S or S+ tier, far superior to what was found on Earth.

The commander smiled while playing around with one in his hands.

Was it because he had obtained very rare high tier bloodstones? No.

These stones meant that Min-Cheol and Jong Ho were safe.

After they had entered the Gate, he could only guess that they were safe due to the lack of monsters coming out from said Gate.

Now, however, he could be positive of it.

One of the goblins who had been eyeing the commander all this time pulled out something from his pockets and spoke while handing the item in question to the commander.

“Kururuk. He asked me to give you this as well.”

“I see. Thank you.”

The item that the goblin gave to the commander was a letter.

It was a letter with messages that Min-Cheol and Jong Ho each wanted to send back to everyone on this side.

Due to the lack of paper or pen, indentations on rough monster leather was used instead to form the letters for the message.

“They’re holding their own well….. Thank you…..”

“Kururu. There is a message that Lord Karin has told us we must send.”

“What is it?”

“Kukuku. Then….. ‘Keruru! Humans! Give up your steak!’ is what he said.”

“Kuhhuhhuhhuh! Will you all be returning back to them?”

“Kuruk. That’s is correct.”

“Alright. I shall prepare the items at once.”

****

After finishing our meal, Jong Ho and I went towards the Gate.

With our luggage on our backs, we took a nice little stroll.

We walked without the slightest hint of worry.

While the two humans went about their business in a relaxed carefree manner, there was one that was on the floor, working with sweat pouring out from his body.

That one was Karin.

Until Belkoseu arrived, we had plenty of time.

While we waited for that, Karin was going through all this trouble to find a way to use the Gate that connected the demonic realm with Earth.

The monsters that Karin were looking for with his ability to detect magical energy signatures were monsters with intelligence.

We planned to use monsters that, while carrying intellect, did not possess any special powerful Authorities or were just weak in general and had difficulty surviving alone.

In short, monsters in a similar situation as Karin.

“Keruk!”

“Did you find any?”

“Found one!”

“Oh…. But who were you looking for specifically when you were using your search ability? How did you know that the monster you were looking for had intelligence?”

“Keruu. The monster is someone who had been serving Berdan with me until recently.”

“Aha! Coworker?”

“Keru?”

“Whew. Are you really using that term. He won’t understand at all. Rin, ignore him and keep going.”

“Since they worked under the same boss, they’re coworkers…..”

“Keruru. He was my one and only underling that made it possible for me to bear the brutal life of the demonic realm. We’re separated right now, but I accurately remember his magical energy signature.”

“Hm….. You’re on friendly terms with him? Then I don’t think this will work out…..”

“Kel? Why is that?”

“I’m going to send them through the Gate. He’s going to act as our messenger, traveling between Earth and demonic realm.”

“Keruruk. Are you worried that they’ll be lost in the crack in time?”

“Yeah. You said that you are fond of this monster. We can’t have that.”

“Kel kel! It doesn’t matter in his case.”

“Why is that?”

“His name is Barun. He’s a pathfinder goblin.”

“A pathfinder goblin?”

“That’s right. I do not know about other monsters, but he won’t be stuck in the crack between dimensions.”

“Oho…..”

“He cannot do what I do, which is having a pocket dimension and being able to search out targets based on their magical signatures, but he was born with that special ability instead.”

“Good. Let’s go find this Barun fellow.”

“Keruruk! Understood!”

****

We found the goblin named Barun that Karin was talking about.

Goblins are so weak that you could even consider their attack capabilities to be nonexistent.

In such a hostile realm, they lived quite miserable lives.

After all, instead of working for demonic leaders like Berdan or Ladin, they were working for what essentially was the local thug equivalent of a monster.

I did not know what they did to become so hated by Berdan, but they were barely surviving in their own ways.

Taking down the monster that was the boss of these goblins with ease, I offered them a deal.

It would be better for them to work for me as servants rather than being the underlings of other monsters, being treated like disposable peasants.

Barun accepted the offer immediately with gratitude.

He gathered a few goblins that would follow his orders and followed after me.

Using Barun as a messenger, I sent the bloodstones we’d been discarding without a care to Earth.

Here, the bloodstones were nothing more than rubble on the ground you’d trip on, but it would be very useful back on Earth as energy resources.

I also added messages on a letter that I wanted to send to my mother and the commander.

Obviously, the message also included a report of our situation and plans for the future.

In this suffocating life in the demonic realm, finally a way to contact Earth had been discovered.

I could finally breathe a little easier.

A little after Barun and the goblins entered the Gate, Karin detected the magical energy of Belkoseu from afar.

“Keruu. Min-Cheol, Belkoseu is coming.”

“Is that so? Pfft!”

“Keruru. I am also no longer afraid of Belkoseu! After all, he cannot even hold his own against you.”

“Of course, that’s obvious. Just because you’re in front of him, don’t be scared!”

“Kel kel. Understood!”

Until now, just hearing his name made me frustrated.

The feeling reminded me of not having done homework that was due the next day.

However, I no longer felt that way at all.

Just a couple hours ago, the situation had completely changed.

After moving closer to me, Belkoseu spoke.

“Kuhu. Today wasn’t an easy day to hunt.”

“Seems so. To think that we had to run from the demon king twice in a single day.”

“This is just a feeling I’m getting, but I think we’ll be running into them more often from here on out. What I mean by that is that we could be in far greater dangerous situations than what we faced today.”

“Hm…. It did seem that he was hunting me down with everything on the line. Still, all I have to do is run away using Warp. Isn’t that so?”

“Kuhmm….. That’s true……”

“Don’t worry about us and focus on gathering magical energies. It won’t be long before you should be able to face Ladin at the least.”

“…….”

“The biggest challenge would be getting them to separate them though.”

“If all goes according to your plan, then of course I’d be happy. However, if Jamon unseals the Chimera, it will become messy.”

“Chimera?”

“Keruruk! C…. Chimera…..”

“It seems that the goblin that serves you is aware of its existence.”

“Chimera….. Is he able to call forth summoned creatures as well?”

“Belkoseu, don’t beat around the bush. What’s a Chimera?”

“Jong-Ho…. The Chimera is……”

“Kuhoot. I shall explain for you.”

“……”

“One of the countless Authorities that the demon king possesses is the Unsealing. With that, he summons forth the strongest monster in the demonic realm.”

“Its strength?”

“For the Chimera, the concept of allies and enemies do not exist. You could say that it’s a monster that only follows its instincts.”

“So you’re saying that it’s a monster that will just run about wildly? Is it that dangerous?”

“I have not faced it myself. I have merely heard stories of it, passed down as legends in the demonic realm.”

“…….”

“The Chimera had existed since the creation of the demonic realm. You can say that it ruled the prehistoric demonic realm. And since it’s still alive even now, just imagine how strong it would be.”

“And you’re saying that this monster is under the thumb of the demon king? Something doesn’t add up.”

“Kuhoot. You can call it a mischievous prank by a god. The one who takes the throne of the demonic realm gets it as his or her property.”

“…….”

“Of course, the demon king would not be exactly the most comfortable unsealing the Chimera. Even he could meet his end by the hands of the Chimera, after all.”

“So you’re saying that the list of opponents to run away from is going to increase.”

“The Chimera will instinctively search after those with high amounts of magical energy. You might be okay if you could hide from its prying eyes, but if you cannot……”

“Isn’t this the worst case scenario though?”

“Kuhuhu. That’s true.”

“Then we’ll deal with it then if it comes down to it.”

“As expected, you’re anything but normal. However…. why have you been smiling at me like that?”

“Hm? No…. Nothing really. I think I’m getting more comfortable being around you.”

“……”

“You’re just imagining it. Just your imagination. We’ll be going to sleep now, so please keep a good eye out for the demon king.”

“Kuhoot. Will do.”

Why am I laughing?

I’ll let you know after the Demon King becomes a cold corpse.

I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 147

Previous Chapter|Index|Next Chapter

147. The Former and the Latter

A skill beyond ranking that was called Eternal Rest.

The requirements to learn this skill that I found out using the Eye of Insight was insane.

The 4 stats that humans received after becoming Awakened were strength, mana, dexterity, and stamina.

The requirement was that one had to have 10,000 worth of points in each stat.

5 points of stats were given freely to spend per level.

This meant that in order to achieve the 40,000 total points required, you’d have to be at least level 8,000.

And on top of that, the points required were separate from the points you’d obtain from artifacts.

An example would be an armor that I wanted to wear that required 500 points worth of strength.

Let’s say I had 200 points of strength and 300 points worth of strength from gear.

Even though the stat window will say that I have 500 points of strength, I still wouldn’t be able to wear the armor.

It would be determined that I would still be lacking 300 points worth of strength to wear it.

The requirements could only be fulfilled through one’s own stat gains rather than through a combination of personal growth and gear.

Through the Butcher’s Sword, I had absorbed the stats of the Awakened of the radical faction.

Due to that, I was able to meet the requirements needed to obtain this skill.

Thankfully the stats obtained through the sword didn’t stay on the sword itself.

Unlike Jong Ho’s Blood Lust 1 armor, the stats I’ve obtained through the sword were directly absorbed by its user.

This meant that even if I threw away the Butcher’s Sword, the stats that I had gained from using it would remain with me.

Was there anyone who had the requirements for this skill other than I?

It made me wonder just was the motive behind the person who made such a skill requirement.

Without a moment of hesitation, I learned the skill.

After that, I opened the status window and looked at what the skill description was.

-Eternal Rest-

*Class: ?

*Rank: ?

*Completely annihilates the selected target.

*Skill can be only used once.

*Consumes 99% of the user’s total health and mana.

*Can only be used when the caster’s health and mana are at 100%.

“Hm…  As expected, it’s a skill that I can use against Belkoseu, but…….”

I was more than satisfied with the part of the description that said that the target would be completely annihilated.

However, the other parts of the description weren’t something I was exactly thrilled about.

Firstly, I thought about the part where it said that it was a one time use skill.

It wasn’t exactly a consumable artifact, and to think I can only use this skill once.

It was a unique skill that I’ve never encountered before.

If this description was true, then one of the five skills beyond ranking slot had been used up, but the skill wouldn’t remain after I used it.

It was quite the loss.

Next, I did not like the cost of 99% of my health and mana to use this skill.

Due to my infinite mana pool, the cost of mana wasn’t going to be an issue, but it was a different story with my health pool.

With the 99% health cost, I would be barely alive, considering that I would only have 1% of my health left.

This meant that after I used this skill, I could be done in by any monster.

This also meant that I had to have perfect awareness of my surroundings and only use this skill in a 1v1 with Belkoseu.

“If there are negatives, so will there be positives.”

The benefits to learning Eternal Rest were great as well.

The biggest benefit was that I had a way to take down Belkoseu.

A method to take down someone that I had originally thought was immortal had appeared before me.

It was true that I could not hide my anxiety and worry while I kept my alliance with him.

After all, I was helping a potentially more dangerous enemy to take down the Demon King and Ladin.

However,  the positions had swapped and now I had gained the upper hand.

Naturally, Belkoseu now took the disadvantageous position that I had before.

The plan was to use him to benefit myself as much as I could, and then get rid of him afterwards, since he could have other plans rather than keeping his word with me.

There was no way that he knew I had obtained such a skill.

Well, for someone like him who has no information on the Awakened, it would be strange if he knew anything in the first place.

I couldn’t confirm the level of the skill or what the effect looked like in detail, but I felt reassured.

I didn’t bask for long in the first time I felt satisfied in the demonic realm.

I heard a sound from nearby.

“You’re here?”

I saw Jong Ho running towards me from afar.

In his arms was Karin, the stocky goblin.

Since Jong Ho did not have any recovery skills, he was panting quite heavily.

That was to be expected, since he had ran quite the distance without rest.

Like a marathon runner who had just passed the goal, Jong Ho laid down in front of me from exhaustion.

Casting Mega Cure on him, I spoke.

“You’ve done well, hyung-nim. The distance is quite far, right?”

“Kuhhuh…. I….. Kuhhuh…. Said…. Kuhhuh…..”

“Huh?”

“We should’ve…. Kehhelel! Ran……..”

“What are you saying? Catching your breath first and then say it again.”

“Haah…… Haah…..”

“Keruruk. He said that we should’ve just ran.”

“Karin, you’re doing a lot of work for us. Now you’re even translating for us. Then tell him for me. Tell him that if I just listen to him, then I’m not really his dongsaeng.”

“Keruk. Keruk. I understand.”

“Wew…… No need! I can’t live in peace because of you.”

“But what shall I ever do….. I obtained something amazing enough to reduce your worries.”

“Did you even take down the Kelvecore? I don’t think it’s defensive capability is anything to joke about.”

“Of course. I took it down at quite the critical moment.”

“Then you took the Warp safely while Belkoseu held the two back?”

“That’s not what happened.”

“Whew…. I just calmed down now, but it feels like my blood pressure is rising up again. Stop joking around and tell me.”

“The moment that Kelvecore’s loot dropped, the Demon King appeared. Just like you told me before, he appeared without warning.”

“So?”

“I immediately focused on escaping, since I knew that I couldn’t take him down.”

“Unlike yourself, you made the right choice. So you made it out ok?”

“He didn’t just let me go so easily. I took a hit.”

“…. Did it hurt?”

“Couldn’t help but swear, you know? Everything except my Mana Shield went out in a single hit. From a simple attack, no less.”

“As expected, he’s quite the opponent.”

“I finally understood how you couldn’t even struggle against him before being done in.”

“Well, at least it doesn’t seem like your were severely injured. Enough of that. What did you obtain?”

“A skill book.”

“Oho….. Something like Archangel’s Fall?”

“Well, it’s a skill beyond ranking.”

“A skill beyond ranking dropped? I guess there was a reason behind why you would risk your life obtaining it.”

“Yes. It’s a skill that could take down Belkoseu at that.”

“What?”

Jong Ho was so surprised that he couldn’t help but cover his mouth shyly and back up.

It was a reaction that I’ve never seen before.

Jong Ho, who had been only blinking his eyes from the surprise, finally recovered enough to ask.

“How so? In what way can Belkoseu be killed?”

“Kerut. Min-Cheol, is that the truth?”

“And it doesn’t make much effort on my part, but instead through a simple method.”

“Keruu…. Belkoseu, who couldn’t be killed even by the Demon King…..”

“What is it? How is it possible?”

“It’s due to a skill called Eternal Rest. The description says that it’s a skill that can completely annihilate a target completely.”

“That’s insane….. If what you’re saying is true, then we have removed a massive burden on our shoulders to worry about.”

“Humans make up lies. Skill books and the Eye of Insight do not lie.”

“Keruruk. Even monsters sometimes make up lies…..”

“Have you tricked me so far?”

“Kehk? I have not! Karin does not break promises. I do not lie.”

“Pfft. Right. The only one I can trust in is you.”

“Min-Cheol. So this means that we found our solution?”

“Yes, that’s right. Now our growth doesn’t matter that much anymore.”

“Focusing only on making Belkoseu stronger, we use him as a tool to kill the Demon King and Ladin. Then……”

“Do you know a term called tosagupaeng?” 2

“We don’t know if he really intends to stop at ruling over the demonic realm, but our original goal was to destroy all monsters and getting rid of all portals on Earth…..”

“Yes. We could never form an alliance with monsters from the start.”

“After the rabbit is caught, we eat the hunting dog…… If the Demon King and Ladin are defeated…..”

“We kill Belkoseu.”

“Keruuu….. In the hundreds of years I have lived, I have seen many deceitful monsters engage in dirty politics, but they have not been as vile as what you humans engage in. I am fearful, human…..”

“Don’t worry. You already know, right? You’re part of our family.”

“Keruu… Of course! I trust you. I didn’t say that I doubt us being family.”

“Of course. And to celebrate that, let’s party. Bring out the meat, Karin.”

“Kerururu. I understand. I’ll be right back.”

“Then I’ll go clean up the area around the Gate.”

“Yes. Do your best for us.”

“Alright.”

****

In a hopeless situation we found ourselves in the demonic realm, this Eternal Rest skill was like a ray of light.

The foundations for our plan ahead was all set.

To celebrate that, we planned for a grand feast.

Karin used the Explosion skill I used to cook the steak he was going to eat for himself, and Jong Ho, who had come back after finishing his clean up work around the Gate, began to cook with a skill rivaling that of a chef.

Despite only having cans of tuna as ingredients, his cooking skill that wasn’t dulled by all the time that was spent in the demonic realm was amazing.

Since I couldn’t even boil water for ramen properly, I carried out the errands they tasked me with, assisting in the preparations for the meal.

It didn’t take long for a rather decent meal to be made, and just like family, we gathered around the food.

Almost as if rewarding ourselves for the day’s work, we hurriedly ate the meal while making small talk.

“Karin.”

“Kerut. Min-Cheol. It’s not good manners to talk while eating rice.”

“We’re not eating rice, we’re eating meat. So we can talk if needed.”

“Whew… You’re teaching him weird things. Real amazing, little bro.”

“If not now, when will we have the time to have a conversation.”

“True.”

“Karin, how much food is left?”

“Kehuu….. Min-Cheol, are you asking me because you do not know just how much food you’ve shoved into my dimensional pocket? There’s enough for the two of you to eat for years on end. However…..”

“Okay, that’s good. Is there a problem?”

“Kehel…. My steak….. Oh….. There’s only that much left…….”

Karin pointed at the duffel bag with an expression that seemed to match someone who had seen the end of the world.

On the day that we traveled to the demonic realm, we had brought 6 duffel bags filled with that stuff.

The beef that filled those bags were nowhere to be seen, with only a half a bag’s worth still left.

However, it’s not like we could go back to Earth via the Gate.

“Keruu. Isn’t there a skill where you can make steak?”

“Uh….. Possibly. If we could just get back to Earth, we could eat as much as we wanted to.”

“Kehel…….”

“Hm, Karin. Are there monsters with intelligence near us?”

“Kel. There are. There are even some amongst us Puppet Goblins, though not that many.”

“Is that so?”

“Do we need them?”

“I think we’ll be needing them soon.”

“Kel?”

“What are you up to!”

“A way for everyone to be happy?”

“Whew. I’m nervous. It’s making me anxious.”

“Then, until Belkoseu finds us again, let’s go find the monsters you were talking about.”

“Alright.”

“Okay. Let’s eat for now!”

“Kel!”

146. One Who Died with a Full Belly Looks Better as a Ghost Than Those Who Died While Starving

The monster that answered Belkoseu’s call was a Kelvecore.

Kicking up a thick layer of dust, it came close before letting out a Fear.

This was a monster that had the heads of a lion, dog, and dragon.

In the past, there was a time where my life was in danger due to the vicious poison from its tail.

I was also a victim of its intense fire breath attack from the dragon head.

On top of that, it had wings, boasting high mobility.

One Earth, all types of attacks worked on the Kelvecore.

It was a hidden boss of a level 12 dungeon after all.

However this was the demonic realm.

Seeing as to how Belkoseu was acting, the monster must be stronger than a Lich King.

However, it was still just a monster to me.

Giving the smug Belkoseu a glance, I immediately poured down magic on the Kelvecore.

Meteor Call filled the demonic realm’s sky, falling down towards it.

The 6 Meteors summoned by both my hands hit dead center without the slightest error.

Who could receive such an attack and still stand.

Looking at the intense flames, I casted Eye of Insight.

However.

“Shield?”

“Kuhut. I did say that it’s not an easy opponent.”

“Amusing. Something like a Kelvecore knows how to use a shield.”

“Do I have to help you out?”

“Today’s hunt is by the humans. Why don’t you take a seat back there and watch?”

“Kuhahat! Right…. I shall observe.”

After the flames cleared, his form appeared clearly once more.

Almost as if a shield used by an Awakened had cracked due to receiving damage, I saw a barrier barely holding together protecting its form.

To think that it blocked a 30% magical energy increased Transcended Meteor Call, and 6 of them to boot.

And with the Archangel’s Fall, the damage should have increased against monsters.

I couldn’t hide my shock.

However, since I saw that it damaged his barrier, I knew that magical attacks worked on this monster.

This would only increase the duration of the battle, because no matter how many times it used its shields, it would not make much of a difference in deciding the victor of this battle.

“The attack patterns are still the same. There’s no adaptation, none at all.”

Out of the 3 heads, the dragon one used a powerful breath attack.

Instead of calling it flames, the attack it spewed out was closer to magma.

The breath attack that landed on the Mana Shield kept on burning, trying to chew its way through the shield.

However, that didn’t last long, as the Mana Shield absorbed the breath attack as if it was brushing aside dust.

The poison sting attack from its tail followed suit.

However, it was far from enough to take down my Mana Shield.

Receiving all of its attacks without concern, I continued to pour down my skills.

Its shields became transparent, seeming ready to disappear at any moment.

-CRACK!

With that, the shield that was covering the Kelvecore shattered.

Since it might cast its shield again, I increased the intensity of my attacks.

Within the downpour of attacks, there wasn’t any patterns or strategies to be found.

I was spamming down spells without much thought after all.

“KWEHHH!”

“KWUHRUU. KUHUNG!”

The first to go from the fierce attacks were the wings.

The wings that were barely stuck to its body were ripped and torn apart, falling to the floor.

Being pinned down to the floor from the attacks, it was letting out its unique Fear.

“How cute.”

It was then.

I could hear Karin’s voice mixed with urgency.

“Keruk! Min-Cheol! I can sense their magical energy.”

“Human. You need to hurry. Jamon is coming.”

“Why now….. It’ll be done soon. Karin, get ready to run.”

“Kel! Got it.”

“Wait, no. Hyung-nim.”

“Yeah.”

“Take Karin with you and run. Your Warp isn’t off cooldown yet. We don’t know what’ll happen if we face them here.”

“Min-Cheol, you should give up on the Kelvecore and retreat together. We can take it down another time.”

“The Demon King is coming. Do you think he’ll leave the Kelvecore alone? There’s no next time.”

“Don’t be greedy. Just listen to hyung this time.”

“It’ll be quick. I can’t give up on it.”

“Whew…. Who can stop you. Rin, let’s go!”

“Kerut! Min-Cheol, give it up! Let’s leave together!”

“Go ahead first. I’ll catch up soon. Hey, Belkoseu.”

“Hm?”

“You’ll need to welcome them. Buy some time for me.”

“Will do.”

“KUWUHH!”

Reflecting my urgency, my attacks increased in intensity.

Jong Ho and Karin had retreated. And Belkoseu had went out to block the Demon King and Ladin.

The reason why I could take this risk was because I could use Warp.

With Jong Ho, since he did not have high strength stats, he couldn’t move quickly.

That’s why whenever the demon king’s magical energy was detected, he had to use Warp.

However, it was a different story for me.

Since I had over 3 million strength, I could escape the area fast enough even after Karin or Belkoseu detected the magical energy of the Demon King.

Of course, Belkoseu stalling them definitely helped.

Just in case, I casted Warp connecting to a location nearby Berdan’s castle ahead of time.

“Please die! Die!”

“Damn it. What kind of a monster is this!”

“KUUNG!”

Due to the insane amounts of attacks I was landing on it, its form began to crumble.

It did not have almost any flesh left on its body, leaving giant bones like that of a dinosaur at a museum.

I was incredibly annoyed at how it still held onto life.

It didn’t last much longer though.

Finally, it collapsed onto the ground.

A massive amount of loot floated above the bones of the Kelvecore.

Most of it were bloodstones and jewels, but there were a few artifacts and a skill book here and there.

There was a reason why I couldn’t help but have high expectations for this monster’s loot drops.

And it delivered, dropping loot good enough to entice me.

“Skill beyond ranking skill book? Good.”

A skill book beyond ranking came into my sights.

Unlike the skill books so far, it was skill book that didn’t reveal its details even with the Eye of Insight.

And the requirements were completely different from before.

It happened when I moved hastily to obtain the skill book.

“Shit……”

“The hide and seek is over, human.”

“Jamon? Ladin? Which one of the two is you?”

“I shall kill you in the most brutal and painful way possible. So much so that if there is a next life for you, you’ll remember. I shall sear it into your mind. Remember. I am Jamon! Demon King Jamon!”

“Damn it.”

Unlucky for me, it was the Demon King.

However, even in this situation, my focus was on the skill book beyond ranking.

All I had to do was to grab it and throw myself into the Warp.

It would take at most 3 seconds to do so.

However, would this guy give me those 3 seconds for free?

Many thoughts raced across my mind.

The conclusion I made was of greed and danger.

‘They say even a ghost looks better if they died with a fully belly, don’t they? Even if it kills me, I have to get that.’

It would only take a moment.

I did not have the slightest of intentions to make this a long fight.

I cast all of my shields at once.

It was enough shielding to withstand all of the attacks of every single Awakened on Earth.

Even if he was a Demon King, it would be impossible to break through all of these shields.

I knew that thinking about it more would just intensify my fears.

I charged forward like lightning and picked up the skill book.

I had already succeeded halfway through.

Pushing with this momentum, it happened the moment I tried to run towards the Warp.

“Damn it!”

“I said that the hide and seek is over. Die!”

“Sorry, but I don’t like being it!”

In a split second, his attacks began to break apart my shields.

Due to his swift attacks that I could not follow with my eyes, the shields that were sturdy like castle walls popped like balloons.

However, thankfully, my Mana Shield was still holding steady, protecting me.

Due to his attacks being simple in nature, the Mana Shield held.

The Demon King was far stronger than what Jong Ho had said and what I had thought.

He was strong enough to make me doubt that I could take him down by growing stronger in due time.

Noticing that his attacks weren’t working on me, he instantly made space between us and prepared a powerful attack.

Not wasting this chance, I hurled myself as hard as I could into the Warp.

“KUACK!”

****

“Damn it! Kuhhuk!”

It could have been really bad back there.

Thanks to entering the Warp as the attack landed on me, I was able to avoid being hit by all of it.

Despite that, my arm hung limply as if it had been hit by a tank shell.

Not only did the armor break, but bits of flesh was missing as well.

It was an injury severe enough to show bone.

Thankfully it was my arm that took the hit. If I had received such an attack on my chest or other vitals….

I couldn’t help but feel despair at the Demon King’s strength, but I regained my composure and began healing myself.

Despite it being a severe injury, it wasn’t severe enough to cast Status Denial.

Even stopping the cast of Mana Shield, I used all my available free hands on Mega Cure.

It would be normal for me to recover fully soon, especially with my stamina stat and the amount that Mega Cure healed.

I was applying three healing spells on top of my stamina stat that was enough to recover on its own, after all.

However, the damage I took from Jamon’s attack didn’t recover so easily, almost as if I had received a debuff that prevented me for healing myself.

“Still, this much is a cheap price to pay for learning what Jamon’s attack is like…..”

It took a very long time before my arm recovered its form.

Only then did the pain subside, and I finally noticed the skill book being held by the hand that was once torn like rags.

The skill book was white as if it was covered in flour.

It was a skill book that I could not give up, even if it meant risking my life.

For skill books beyond ranking, even using the Eye of Insight doesn’t reveal all of its information.

Instead, it only shows the requirements needed to use it.

However, that was enough for me.

It was because the requirements was something that I’ve never seen or heard of before.

[No level requirement.]

[10,000 strength stat required.]

[10,000 mana stat required.]

[10,000 dexterity stat required.]

[10,000 stamina stat required.]

[All requirements met.]

[Will you obtain Eternal Rest?]

“Please be worth at least my life.”

145. Tom and Jerry

“KUHAHAK!”

“Belkoseu, it’s your turn.”

“Kuhut. Well done, human.”

We focused on killing monsters that with the magical energy pools that had the potential of becoming demon kings.

Leaving behind the monster that was barely alive, we passed the finishing touches to Belkoseu.

With a wicked smile, he landed the finishing blow and moved on.

My eyes met with Karin, and I spoke.

“Oh. Our incredibly loyal goblin Karin!”

“Keheh? Min-Cheol, did I do something wrong?”

“What do you mean you did something wrong. I heard you talking with Belkoseu before dawn.”

“Kehk! Did you wake up because of me being too loud? Sorry……”

“You don’t have to worry about it. And also, you seemed to hold your own pretty well against Belkoseu?”

“What? Something like that happened? Rin’s quite amazing, don’t you think?”

Jong Ho, who was next to me, began to call him Rin as a nickname.

Karin was overjoyed like a child.

You could tell how happy he was from the way his shoulders were outstretched and his belly was protruding outwards.

With his chin raised, he spoke.

“Kerururu. I already know that we face danger at least once a day if I travel with you two.”

“……”

“I was quite scared of him for awhile, but not anymore. Keruruk. Dying one way or another, it’s still death.”

“Pfft. Why do you conclude on death? We all need to make it out alive. Either way, good work.”

“Kel kel. It would have been better if I could’ve learned more…… Kehheck!”

“Hm? Are they coming here?”

Karin’s expression and shock meant the obvious.

It meant that someone incredibly strong was nearby.

After all, the expression he was making was the same as when he had first sensed the magical energies of the Demon King, Ladin, and Belkoseu.

Belkoseu, who had finished absorbing the magical energies, seemed to have noticed as well.

There weren’t many that would take them by surprise.

Jamon and Ladin must be nearing our location.

Belkoseu spoke with a frown on his face.

“Tsk! Human.”

“…….”

“Due to being absorbed in the task of draining magical energies, I have let down my guard. They’re rushing here…….”

“By they….. You mean the Demon King and Ladin are coming here together?”

“Keruuk! That’s right, Min-Cheol. We need to run away.”

“How long till they’re here?”

“I estimated 5 minutes. It’s unfortunate, but it seems that today’s hunting stops here.”

“5 minutes….. Hyung-nim.”

“Hm?”

“Let’s meet up at Berdan’s castle. Use your Warp skill.”

“Okay. What about you?”

“I have to escape with Karin. 5 minutes should be possible.”

“Kehel.”

“I will buy time by stopping those two.”

“Alright. I guess those two do not approve of our alliance.”

“Kuhut. They hunt with fire in their eyes. Weaklings. They fear my growth.”

“Belkoseu, we’ll group up and then find you. Stop them until you cannot detect our magical energies anymore.”

“Do not worry. Hurry and go.”

“……”

Jong Ho immediately casted Warp and went to a location near Berdan’s castle.

Holding Karin in my arms, I began to run as fast as I could.

We needed to make enough distance to make sure that they could no longer detect our magical energies.

Thanks to the Demon King’s pursuit, we found ourselves making a run for it far more often than before.

On Earth, I have never fled before.

There had been cases of my enemies fleeing due to fear of my strength before though.

That was expected, since I have not met an opponent I had to flee from until now.

My pride was a bit hurt, but that didn’t matter.

I was far from being ready to face him, and preparations weren’t finished.

It was because I had underestimated the Demon King.

I ran until Karin let out a sigh of relief.

Since I could not read magical energies myself, I had to rely on Karin to do so.

And finally…

“Keruu……. It seems that Belkoseu is doing a good job holding back the Demon King and Ladin.”

“That’s a relief.”

“Min-Cheol. Aren’t you tired?”

“I’m healing myself constantly as I run, so I’m not fatigued at all.”

“Keruk. Then let’s hurry and get to where Jong Ho is.”

“Right. Guess it’ll take about an hour to get to the castle?”

“That’s right. Once we reach there, I’ll try to detect the exact location of the Demon King.”

“Ok.”

****

“You’re here?”

“Yes. Guess you cleared the area around the Gate?”

“Yep. There wasn’t anything else to do. I did notice how good Full Heal is though?”

“I’m using it whenever I have the time. Since the summons are now receiving infinite healing, they should be able to defeat any regular monsters with ease.”

“I agree. These summons that were struggling with just handling the fights are now gathering jewels in their spare time, you know?”

“Pfft! Devil Avatar…. I’ve taught them once to gather jewels. I think it was in the Unknown Dungeon.”

“Since the summons were called forth by a human, the enemies killed drop artifacts. Thinking of using them was an amazing idea.”

“So cute of them. We’ll use the jewels later.”

“What about Belkoseu?”

“No idea. Since he won’t die no matter what, we don’t have to worry. We have other things to worry about.”

“You mean the Demon King’s movements?”

“Yes. They are trying to find us in earnest. The fact that we’re making Belkoseu stronger must have caught their attention.”

“That’s to be expected, since they do not have a way to take down Belkoseu. It’s the same with us, though.”

“Since they’re seriously searching for us now, we need to be on a higher level of alertness.”

“Hm….. Karin.”

“Keruru. What is it, Jong Ho?”

“Your ability to read magical energies and finding the location of those you are searching for, is it a common ability amongst Puppet Goblins?”

“Kerururu. No. All monsters can read the flow of magical energies around them, but my ability isn’t common. You can say that it’s a very rare ability in the demonic realm.”

“”Hm…… Min-Cheol. The reason that they headed for the location that we were at was…..”

“We can think of 3 possibilities. They could’ve have near us by chance. The Demon King, Ladin, or someone else with them has the Authority to search for targets via magical energy signatures. The last one is that they’re flipping through the entire demonic realm in search for us. I think that about sums it up.”

“I’m hoping that they don’t have anyone who can search via magical energy signatures…….”

“I’m absolutely positive that the Demon King and Ladin do not have such capabilities. It’s been many days since we started hunting, but they’ve just found us now. The problem is that someone with such an Authority has lent them his or her assistance……. The truth behind that would be revealed to us soon in due time.”

“I guess we’ll find out if we camp and wait patiently near where Belkoseu is waiting for us.”

“That’s right. No matter which one out of the three possibilities I’ve stated, we’re in a dangerous situation.”

“Hm……”

“On days where we have to run due to the appearance of the Demon King, let’s halt hunting for that day.”

“Don’t you think that’s a bit too much?”

“It’s due to the cooldown of Warp. When we run from them, there are no other skills as surefire as that.”

“If the worst case scenario is true, and they can now detect us via searching for magical energy signatures…….”

“Then we have to hunt while risking our lives. Hopefully it doesn’t come down to that.”

“……”

“Let’s check on the Gate once more before we go to where Belkoseu is.”

“Let’s do so. Karin, can you search for Belkoseu’s location?”

“Kerut. Understood. But what if he’s still fighting with the Demon King?”

“Don’t worry about that. I’m sure that the Demon King tired himself out and has given up.”

“Keruru. Then…..”

Karin used his ability to find out where Belkoseu was.

It was a location that wasn’t far from where we had ran away from.

He was waiting for us there.

“Damn, we’re running all day because of the Demon King. Let’s go!”

****

The chase from the Demon King and Ladin continued.

However, the frequency of running into them weren’t that often.

It seemed that they did not have any monsters that had the same ability as Karin had.

That’s to be expected, since a monster with both intelligence and the ability to search for magical energy signatures must be incredibly rare.

Karin’s case was incredibly lucky.

For a Puppet Goblin, who is in the lowest in the ranks of the demonic realm, these abilities were far beyond what was fitting for his rank.

However, when they found us, the hunting ended for the day as Jong Ho had said.

It was because safety came first.

Belkoseu understood that as well.

He knew that without us, his growth would be halted as well.

However, this only meant that hunting for Belkoseu’s growth had stopped.

This had no effect on our growth.

Belkoseu kept calling in high ranking monsters like the Lich King to one spot.

Like how the smell of steak can lure in Karin, monsters were called and came endlessly.

This was an incredible benefit for us.

Instead of focusing on hunting that prioritized Belkoseu’s growth, which took the majority of the day, we could focus on our growth.

Even today’s hunting was purely for our benefit.

It was because the moment we started hunting for Belkoseu today, we had to lose the Demon King’s chase.

Our last resort method to escape, Warp, had more than 11 hours before the skill would be off cooldown.

We couldn’t move recklessly right now.

Regrouping with Belkoseu, I spoke.

“Sorry it turned out this way.”

“Kuhu. The demon king’s pursuit intensifies.”

“Well, it’s good for us. Not sure about how you feel about this.”

“Doesn’t matter. I have been waiting for hundreds of years. Do you think I’d be disappointed in waiting a few more days?”

“You have a good mindset. Then I’ll be counting on you today as well. Bring us some decent ones please.”

“Kuhut. Will do.”

Belkoseu lifted up both his arms up to the height of his shoulders.

At first, I had thought that he merely commanded monsters weaker than him, but now I had the suspicion that it was one of his Authorities.

There was a possibility that he had the Authority to read the magical energies nearby and choose monsters to be brought over at will.

It happened when 3 monsters had been brought here at his will.

At his command, the monsters stood still without any resistance.

“Giving up their lives as if it was nothing…… The demonic realm is an interesting place.”

“Kuhaha. Go ahead and reap as you wish.”

“I’ll accept your offer and do so.”

They all stood in a line.

I swung the Butcher’s Sword at the monster’s weaknesses, revealed to me by Eye of Insight.

Perhaps they did not have any physical resistances, because they fell bleeding with a single strike.

An incredible amount of artifacts poured out.

Seeing that, Karin automatically moved.

It was because he knew that we couldn’t touch the drops carelessly.

Perhaps because this wasn’t the first few times he did this, he quickly organized them into clean neat piles.

Looking at that, Belkoseu spoke with a surprised expression.

“Oho. Perhaps today is your lucky day, human.”

“……”

“A monsters strong enough that you’d be satisfied by is coming.”

“KURURU! KUNG!”

“Oho….. Kelvecore? But I could see a monster at that level pretty easily on Earth though?”

“Kuhat. I wonder if you can say the same thing after confirming just how strong he is. With his level of power, that is the strongest monster I can gather. That means that I can’t suppress that monster.”

“Then I’ll have to show you the dignity of humans after surviving the hellish Earth your monsters turned it to be as it is now.”

144. Give and Take

Jamon and Ladin were gathered at the Demon King’s castle.

Their expressions were filled with worry unlike anything before.

A few days ago, the two of them noticed that the human who had crossed over from Earth engaged in combat against Belkoseu.

The results should have been either the death of one of them or the two of them putting distance between one another due to either being evenly matched or one fleeing the other.

However, as if to mock his expectations, whenever Belkoseu and the human were outputting energy to take out monsters, the magical energies he sensed were at the same location.

This meant that Belkoseu and the human were moving together.

“Ladin.”

“Yes, Demon King.”

“Their movements are very concerning.”

“……”

“I can sense the magical energies of the human and Belkoseu in the same place!”

“To think it would come down to this….”

“When Belkoseu and the human fought, you must’ve also sensed that Belkoseu’s magical energy signature was snuffed out.”

“……”

“That meant that he would have lost his life. However, due to his Authority, he regained his life. This means that even with the power of that human, he still cannot be defeated.”

“It is as you say, Demon King.”

“Confirming that he cannot kill Belkoseu, he should’ve ran. But look at the current situation. The two of them have allied with one another!”

Unable to keep his anger in check, Jamon destroyed a corner of his castle.

When Min-Cheol and Jong Ho fought against Berdan, this was the same building material that wasn’t even scratched despite all the spells they fired.

The construction material used in the demonic realm boasted sturdiness, if anything else.

However, the Demon King easily turned it to dust.

It was obvious that his destructive capabilities were far beyond that of Min-Cheol’s.

Currently, Ladin was the second highest rank in the demonic realm.

He possessed a great amount of power, but right now, he was before the Demon King.

Misspeaking a single word and the Demon King could easily take his life away.

Trying his best to avoid upsetting him, he carefully spoke to the Demon King.

“Demon King.”

“Kuhu……”

“When the human and Belkoseu first clashed with one another, I was hopeful for one thing.”

“…….”

“I had hoped that Belkoseu would perish from the human’s attacks. However, unlike what I had hoped for, the human was unable to stop him from reviving.”

“What are you trying to say!”

“Belkoseu cannot be stopped. This means that the human who is helping him grow stronger must be taken out.”

“Continue.”

“As you know, Belkoseu has a pathetic offensive capability. Without the help of that human, he wouldn’t be able to gather enough magical energy to be considered a threat even if hundreds of years passed. That’s why we need to strike them now. What we need now isn’t power or Authority. What we need is to know where they’re at and where they plan to move. So…. It’s probably best that you unseal it…..”

“Undo the seals….. Do you mean the Chimera?”

“Yes, Demon King.”

“Ladin…..”

“Yes.”

“It was a brief moment, but you did hold the title of Demon King before.”

“That…. Hm….”

“Have I touched upon a sensitive topic?”

“N… No…..”

Ladin instantly became pale.

As if he had remembered a past he did not wish to remember, his eyes lost their focus, and his lips trembled in fear.

That’s right. As expected, Ladin once was the Demon King.

At least until Jamon was born.

The demonic realm was like this. The ranks would be organized under how powerful your Authority was.

After Jamon’s first appearance, it only took 10 years before Ladin had to step down from the seat of the Demon King.

In a world where the Demon King would be chosen based on having the most magical energy, this instance was common.

The unsealing of the Chimera was something that only the Demon King had the authority to do so.

While the Demon King continued to speak, Ladin wiped the cold sweat off himself.

“Don’t you know what it means to unseal the Chimera?”

“However, there is no other way at this moment. Monsters that can track magical energies are rare. The pathetic goblin that travels with the… the one that we ignored who goes by the name of Karin has that ability.”

“Is there really no other way?”

“Yes, Demon King. Right now, it is the only way.”

“The Chimera….. Might be more than I can handle. You are aware of this, right?”

“I am well aware. Their ferocity is something that even you cannot suppress… However, they are a much better alternative to Belkoseu’s growth.”

“I understand what you’re saying, but I will not summon the Chimera now.”

“…..”

“It will be used as a last resort. That’s just how much destructive force the Chimera will bring to all sides, collateral damage or not.”

“Then….”

“That’s right. We move, starting now.”

“We don’t have a way of finding out their exact location…..”

“Even if we have to look under every nook and cranny of the demonic realm, we must find them!”

“I understand your will, Demon King.”

Finishing their talk, the Demon King and Ladin immediately stood up.

It was to begin their search in honest for Belkoseu and the human.

Their first target was the human named Min-Cheol.

Belkoseu was an opponent that, even if found, they could not kill.

This meant that they had to kill the human who is helping him grow stronger, putting a halt to his growth that not only threatened his claim to the throne, but to the rest of the demonic realm as well.

One could see the determination radiating from the two of them as they left the demon king’s castle.

Their resolute appearance showed that they would do whatever it took to take down the human, even if they would incur major losses.

****

The hunt with Belkoseu went rapidly enough to make the day feel short.

It was pointless to consider time in terms of human civilization in a world where the sun did not rise or set, but we could still tell the time thanks to Jong Ho’s wristwatch.

15 to 16 hours a day were spent on hunting, with 14 purely focused on hunting if one subtracted the time it took for meals and maintaining gear.

Most of the time was spent on getting Belkoseu stronger.

With Karin and Belkoseu in the lead, we searched for monsters with powerful magical energies as if we were checking for a pulse, and the two of us had the role of beating down the monsters to an inch of their lives.

It was Belkoseu’s role to be the executioner.

After all, the requirement for absorbing magical energy was to be the one to execute the monster.

We didn’t spend that much obtaining artifacts, the reason for the alliance in my part.

All that happened was that Belkoseu would call in monsters that stood out to me while we searched for the monsters Belkoseu wanted.

Since he had magical energy similar to that of the chiefs of the demonic realm, the monsters could not resist his commands and followed his will.

Before going to bed each night, I checked the jewels and artifacts obtained for that day, growing stronger in a way that the Demon King and Belkoseu could not understand.

Since they only knew how to read magical energies, there was no way they could tell if I was growing stronger.

Days had passed, but Karin still was still fearful of Belkoseu.

During the time Jong Ho and I slept, he had to spend time with Belkoseu by himself.

He had to make sure that Belkoseu wasn’t up to anything and keep checking if the Demon King and Ladin were nearby.

The sleepless monsters had to spend their time waiting.

His fear continued.

It was 4 am in Earth time.

Waking up from my slumber, I silently observed the two of them some distance away.

Karin did not allow Belkoseu to get any closer than a certain distance.

I heard the sound of them talking.

“You’re quite easily scared, goblin.”

“Keh… Kel. I’m not afraid…. Kel? Not afraid!”

“Kuhuhu. Yeah, sure. You said your name is Karin?”

“Kehel…. That’s right!”

“Let me ask you one thing. Why did a servant of Berdan switch sides to be with the humans?”

“Kuhm…….. I like these two humans. It’s not only because Berdan perished. Even if he didn’t perish, I still would’ve followed them.

“Oho. That’s rather amusing. You liked them enough to betray your master that you served for centuries?”

“Kehruruk! This is not a betrayal!”

“Not a betrayal….. Then what is it?”

“You wouldn’t understand the odd powers they carry.”

“Powers? Are you talking about their attacks from another dimension that does not require magical energies?”

“Keru. That’s part of it. However, you cannot judge them with that alone.”

“Then?”

“I cannot explain it with words. Even though I’m not of the same race, they still welcomed my monster self.”

“Kuhut. Isn’t it because you’re a weak foolish monster?”

“Kehek! Shut up! You know nothing!”

“Kuhat! You guys sure are amusing.”

That little guy was holding his own pretty well against that guy.

Mustering up what fierceness he could, he stood his ground.

With this, Karin’s trust in us was proven to be absolute.

I wasn’t satisfied from learning just this information, and wanted Karin to question Belkoseu.

I hoped that he would ask what Belkoseu really wanted.

Almost as if reading my mind, Karin opened his mouth to speak.

“Keruu. This time, I’ll ask the questions.”

“……”

“Jamon…. After you and the humans defeat the Demon King, what will you do?”

“Everyone wants to obtain great power. I am the same. Just as you do, I do not break promises. If the Demon King is defeated…. I will spend my life ruling over the demonic realm. I want nothing more and nothing less than that.”

“Kehheh. I asked a pointless question. I will keep reading your magical energy at all times.”

“Kuhu. You are quite doubtful.”

“If you’re up to anything, just go be a parasite to a monster instead, and not this human. You cannot fool the great Karin.”

“Kuha. I will keep that in mind.”

“One more thing! Your Authority!”

“…….”

“Min-Cheol and Jong Ho knows about two of your Authorities. One is the Undying Authority. And then there is the limitless capacity to store magical energies. However, that’s not all there is, is there?”

“Of course.”

“How many do you have? And what are the Authorities?”

“Kuhut. Let’s get to know each other as we go along.”

“Tsk!”

It seemed that Karin was doing his best.

As I listened in on the conversation, I realized what a mistake it was to think that he only had two Authorities.

I did not know how many Authorities he had nor did I know what they all did.

It seemed as though another reason to be cautious with him and keep track of his moves had popped up.

I prayed that I would be able to obtain the upper hand in this dangerous deal.

****

So far, the hunting hasn’t yielded anything significant.

The one positive outcome was that the Louver’s Ring obtained a 10% magical energy bonus.

There was a chance that the ring would have been destroyed by attempting to enhance it with the jewels.

On top of that, the success rate of jewels in the demonic realm was absolutely abysmal.

However, the set bonus effect from the Louver armaments, which gave a shield, was something that I didn’t need that badly right now.

I had more than enough shields, all very high level and with insane absorption numbers.

Without much care for the destruction of the ring, I had recklessly applied an enhancement jewel for the heck of it, succeeding in the process.

However, I wasn’t that happy.

To be honest, the real enemy wasn’t the Demon King, but Belkoseu.

The Demon King could be beaten at some point.

Even if it took a long time, it could be done.

However, it wasn’t the same case with Belkoseu.

His potential for growth was near limitless, so he needed to be taken down as soon as possible.

That’s why I wanted artifacts with special abilities or skill books.

I was searching for something that could get rid of his undying status.

“It’s a short alliance. Before it ends… please, drop already.”

I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 143

143. Alliance

“Whew……”

Due to my attacks continuing to rain down on him, he was torn apart.

He didn’t take any damage from my physical attacks, but now he could not stand against my magical attacks.

He did not resist in the slightest, taking the full brunt of the attacks.

Eventually, letting out a moan of pain, he sank to his knees.

His body bled nonstop.

Receiving such a fierce attack, it wouldn’t have surprised me to find that his entire body had evaporated.

Enduring all this was enough for me to praise him.

I landed the finishing blow on his body that was hanging on to life by a thread.

Praying that he would not rise again, I attacked.

A massive mountain of ice rose up from the ground, completely encasing him.

The Eye of Insight that marked him with a red dot no longer did so.

This meant that he had perished.

I did not leave this spot, but instead surveyed the surroundings.

Belkoseu had the title of Immortal Knight.

I believed that I could get rid of him using the skills that humans used, but I had a bad feeling about it still.

I had the suspicion that he would rise again once more, despite having perished.

A minute passed.

My expectations were that Jamon and Ladin had taken notice of this fight.

Despite still in the process of growing stronger, they probably couldn’t ignore the amount of magical energy BElkoseu carried.

And there was no doubt in my mind that I was under their close surveillance.

If I did not engage in combat and stood still, my exact position wouldn’t have been given away, but the situation wasn’t ideal in this case.

It wouldn’t take that long before the two of them were upon us.

‘Since he hasn’t risen again, I guess it’s surely over?’

I was relieved, but also regretful.

If he obtained a massive amount of magical energy, I wouldn’t be able to stop him no matter what I tried.

It was the right decision to shut down any chances of him growing stronger.

With his broken remains of a corpse behind me, I began to walk.

Uninvited guests were coming, after all.

However, the moment that I took a single step away, it happened.

“Hm?”

I could hear the sound of liquids bubbling.

It made sickening plopping sounds as if in a swamp.

Naturally, I turned around, praying that he wouldn’t revive.

However, the result wasn’t good.

What I hoped wouldn’t happen had occurred.

There’s a saying that an intuition expecting a sad event is never wrong.

The pile of shredded meat that was the remains of his former body began to slowly gather, regaining its form.

“I guess I was wrong…..”

“……”

The red dot from the Eye of Insight came back.

As his form recovered further, the mark became clearer.

This moment was evidence that I was completely wrong.

Belkoseu could not die from any attacks.

He was a lifeform that really was immortal.

Was there not a method to silence him forever?

I was planning on using him to help take down the Demon King and Ladin.

It was the same with my plans of obtaining loot.

This alliance would let me easily obtain loot without having to go all over the place.

However, experiencing his revival with my own eyes, I couldn’t help but rethink my plans.

What would happen if he became strong as, if not, stronger than the demon king?

I did speak with our informant of the demonic realm, Karin, about this before.

I asked him if there really wasn’t a way to defeat BElkoseu.

Even under specific hard to reach conditions, was there really not a single way to take him down?

The answer to that was none.

After recovering fully, a smug smile adorned his face as he rotated his shoulders and cracked his neck.

Looking at him, I thought to myself.

‘I cannot give up on the loot. Just for a little while…. We’ll keep this dangerous alliance for a bit.’

Drawing magical energy into his hands, he began to create his armor once more.

I had thought that his armor was made from processing bloodstones, but it seemed that he made it using his own magical energy.

Finishing repairs, he spoke to me.

“Whew…. I wasn’t wrong about you.”

“……”

“Since you had taken down Berdan, I expected you to be amazing, but to think that you were this strong. I cannot stop being flabbergasted at your strength.”

“Same here. I thought that you would never rise again from my attacks.”

“Kuhuhu. Did I not tell you so…… My power is Undying Authority. So now that we got that out of the way, are we finalizing this alliance?”

“There is one thing that bothers me, but we’ll go through with it.”

“What is it?”

“I’ll explain this as simply as I can. I can kill you.”

“That’s right.”

“However, if you become stronger through me, then you can imagine the implications.”

“…..”

“When you reach that point in strength, you break our alliance and make Earth your target, I will be helpless before your might.”

“Kuhuhu…… It’s obvious that you don’t trust me. However, that won’t happen. Where are you going with this?”

“…….”

“Are you perhaps asking me to divulge a method to eliminate me?”

“Oho? That would be great. However, I don’t think that you would divulge such information that would put you at such a disadvantage?”

“Kuhahat! You’re rather sharp. If you’re curious, I’ll tell you. There is no way. Well, there might be, but do you think I’d know such a way? I merely use my unique Authority to my advantage. I was created by the gods, but I doubt that they would let me walk the same path as them…… What is this safety mechanism that you wish for?”

“Guarantee? There’s no such thing. Just know this. Do not think of betraying me. And our alliance lasts only until Jamon is defeated.”

“Good. Then we’ll be competing to take the Demon King’s life.”

“For now, we change locations.”

“Pfft. Jamon. He’s running as fast as he can. Alright.”

“Then…….”

****

“Keruu….. Jong Ho.”

“Hm?”

“What time did Min-Cheol say he’d be back? Is it not time yet?”

“How many times are you going to ask me. Over an hour at the least.”

“Kehel…. Wouldn’t be a good idea to try detecting Min-Cheol’s magical energy?”

“Hm…. Your ability isn’t something that you can constantly use. Be patient for a bit longer. He’ll be here soon.”

“Kehmuru……”

“Instead of worrying about that, focus on the magical energies near you if you want to avoid getting done in like the last time.”

“I got it. Kel?”

“What is it? Who is coming?”

“Min-Cheol is coming! Kerururu… Keheck?”

“Why? Why are you being so surprised that Min-Cheol is coming?”

“Keh….. Be…. Bel…. Belkoseu!”

“What do you mean? Are you saying that Min-Cheol and Belkoseu are coming together?”

“Keck! Kurk! Kurk!”

Karin began to hiccup due to being so nervous.

Jong Ho could only look at him with worry filling his eyes.

A few moments later….

“I think they’re here?”

“Kuhuck! Kurk!”

“Shit…. What is that…..”

I saw Min-Cheol walking towards us from far away.

However, he wasn’t alone.

Next to him was a man in black armor and cape walking alongside him.

Jong Ho immediately called for Karin.

“Karin. Are you sure that the person next to him is Belkoseu?”

“Kurk! That’s right. Kurk!”

“Just what is he thinking…..?”

Without any concern towards how surprised Jong Ho and Karin was, Min-Cheol walked up to the Immortal Knight Belkoseu without a care in the world.

Jong Ho followed his instincts and prepared to fight.

Monsters were akin to dolls for humans in terms of trust.

However, the aura Belkoseu carried felt bad enough for him to be on edge.

Min-Cheol spoke up.

“Did I keep you waiting for long? Thankfully it ended earlier than I thought.”

“……”

“What’s wrong?”

“Kurk! Mi… Min-Cheol. Next to you……”

“Ah, Belkoseu? He’ll be accompanying us for awhile.”

“What? Do you know how crazy you sound right now?”

“Kuhu. You also carry a lot of magical energies…”

“…..”

“There’s no need to be on guard. I have agreed to an alliance with him. It won’t be a long one though.”

“Wait a moment. Min-Cheol, let us talk for a bit.”

“Alright.”

“Keheck! Kurk! Family! Me too. Let me in too. Take me with you.”

“Kuhuuu…..”

“There’s no need to be scared. It’s going to be okay, Karin.”

“Keheck!”

Leaving the trembling Karin behind, Jong Ho and I gathered at a place far away from Belkoseu.

Perhaps Jong Ho couldn’t believe what he was witnessing, because he asked me with a flabbergasted look on his face.

“How did it come to this?”

“As I said, we’ve formed an alliance.”

“Cast Silent.”

“…….”

A thin barrier formed to surround Min-Cheol and Jong Ho.

Silent, a skill that prevented sound from traveling outside, was casted.

Even though we were far away from Belkoseu, Jong Ho couldn’t hide his anxiety.

“Are you insane?”

“…….”

“Just what reason do you have for making an alliance with that monster…..”

“I couldn’t kill him.”

“What?”

“I couldn’t defeat him with Awakened skills.”

“This just gets better….”

“That’s why I thought we might as well make an alliance.”

“You should’ve just left him be! You should’ve just ran away at that point!”

“Hyungnim. At this rate, we don’t know when we can take down the demon king and return home. What Karin said about the endeavor taking over a hundred years as a joke might come to fruition. And even if we run away right now, the situation won’t change. We can slow down his growth, but we can’t stop it. It’s a problem that we’ll have to deal with at some point in order to gain complete dominion over the demonic realm.”

“Whew…. What did he want? Let’s hear it.”

“You can already guess. It’s magical energies.”

“What can we obtain from this?”

“Artifacts and jewels.”

“Min-Cheol. You need to think this through. That guy doesn’t die. We can’t kill him no matter what we do. But you’re going to help him grow stronger? To take down Jamon and Ladin? While we try to catch a cat, we can get bitten by a tiger!”

“I also thought that as well.”

“……”

“Hyung-nim. Did I already tell you that I’m sure of this?”

“You also said that your belief that he won’t revive was wrong.”

“……”

“Min-Cheol. I believe in you. I don’t think that you made the wrong decision.”

“……”

“You must have thought this through several times. But this, I cannot understand. Are you sure that I can trust in you?”

“There must be a way to defeat him. Until we find out how, let’s use him to our convenience.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. There definitely is. And I don’t plan to let him grow strong as the Demon King.”

“Of course.”

“It’ll be brief. Until then, we need to get as much as artifacts and jewels out of him.”

Jong Ho looked into Min-Cheol’s eyes for a long time.

He could not understand what Min-Cheol was thinking in the slightest.

However, since he had never let him down before, Jong Ho decided to follow him still.

Letting out a long sigh, Jong Ho spoke.

“Whew…… Alright, let’s do as you say.”

“Thank you, hyung-nim.”

“Tell him to immediately summon Lich Kings!”

“Pfft. I got your order. Let’s go!”

“Alright! I don’t know anymore! Whatever, let’s just do it!”
