In reply to Yarbles. Even if they don't attack him they can steal it. I think he leaves some things in his home when he goes to the dungeon. Also he hasn't put any points into Dexterity. If someone snatched it and ran, if he couldn't catch them with a spell early on, they have a good chance of escaping.
