148. Goblin Talk

“Commander! The Gate is vibrating!”

“……”

“What shall we do?”

“Have all forces prep for battle. It seems that the war will resume.”

“It was calm for awhile, but now……”

“The vibrations are getting stronger. Everyone, do let down your guard! The battle is not yet over!”

“Yes, commander!”

“Understood!”

At the general’s command, all forces readied themselves for battle.

A couple days ago, a massive number of monsters poured out the Gate.

Due to that event, several Awakened lost their lives, and many more were heavily injured.

However, humanity was able to stop the wave of monsters with their own strength.

No one knew how much longer this war was to last.

On top of that, no one could be certain who the victor of this war would be.

However, everyone worked together with one goal and purpose, relying on each other every day to stay alive.

“All forces, cast your shields and buffs! Sang-Ho and Geon.”

“Yes, commander.”

“Hm?”

“Please take the front.”

“What’s up with gramps? Have you not recovered yet fully?”

“I shall do my best to prevent casualties in the backline.”

“Gotcha. Let’s go.”

“…….”

At the general’s command, all forces cast their buffs and shields.

Due to thousands of Awakened casting their spells at once, the sound was deafening.

The sound filled the entire mountain area, which could even be described as grand.

The wait for the monsters to exit the Gate was short.

Geon, who had been standing in the frontlines, urgently sought after the commander.

“C…. Commander! The situation is a bit strange!”

“What’s the matter! Just what monster appeared that has you in such shock!”

“T…. That’s…….”

“Old man! I think this is something you should see for yourself?”

“Damn……”

Abandoning his position, he ran up towards the Gate.

His direct subordinates in his squad were Sang-Ho and Geon.

Their combat prowess were not only one of the highest in Korea, but in the entire world as well.

These were the same two that were looking for his guidance with such confusion evident in their faces.

The commander had thought that the monster that had appeared was far stronger than expectations.

The commander arrived near the Gate.

And then merry laughter broke the silence, echoing through the mountains.

“Kuhhuhuhuhuhuh! Kahha! The sight couldn’t be more welcoming! Kuhuhuh!”

Three goblins stood in front of the Gate.

Holding a makeshift white flag, they showed that they had no intentions to fight.

How did the goblin monsters know what it meant to wave a white flag, or why did they carry the duffel bags that Min-Cheol and Jong Ho had taken with them.

The commander could figure it out in an instant.

These goblins were servants sent by Min-Cheol.

The goblins carefully approached the commander.

They all dropped the large duffel bags before the commander, and then one of them spoke up.

“The great Karin sent us here.”

“Karin?”

“Kururu. He has told us to send you these.”

“Karin… Have you perhaps seen any humans next to the one named Karin?”

“Kuruk. There were two who called themselves Min-Cheol and Jong Ho next to him.”

“Kuhhuhhuh! Right. You all have come here under their directions.”

“Yep. Kuku. But firstly, this…..”

The commander looked at the duffel bags that they had laid at his feet.

The bags were filled with bloodstones in numbers far beyond what he could guess.

All of the stones were S or S+ tier, far superior to what was found on Earth.

The commander smiled while playing around with one in his hands.

Was it because he had obtained very rare high tier bloodstones? No.

These stones meant that Min-Cheol and Jong Ho were safe.

After they had entered the Gate, he could only guess that they were safe due to the lack of monsters coming out from said Gate.

Now, however, he could be positive of it.

One of the goblins who had been eyeing the commander all this time pulled out something from his pockets and spoke while handing the item in question to the commander.

“Kururuk. He asked me to give you this as well.”

“I see. Thank you.”

The item that the goblin gave to the commander was a letter.

It was a letter with messages that Min-Cheol and Jong Ho each wanted to send back to everyone on this side.

Due to the lack of paper or pen, indentations on rough monster leather was used instead to form the letters for the message.

“They’re holding their own well….. Thank you…..”

“Kururu. There is a message that Lord Karin has told us we must send.”

“What is it?”

“Kukuku. Then….. ‘Keruru! Humans! Give up your steak!’ is what he said.”

“Kuhhuhhuhhuh! Will you all be returning back to them?”

“Kuruk. That’s is correct.”

“Alright. I shall prepare the items at once.”

****

After finishing our meal, Jong Ho and I went towards the Gate.

With our luggage on our backs, we took a nice little stroll.

We walked without the slightest hint of worry.

While the two humans went about their business in a relaxed carefree manner, there was one that was on the floor, working with sweat pouring out from his body.

That one was Karin.

Until Belkoseu arrived, we had plenty of time.

While we waited for that, Karin was going through all this trouble to find a way to use the Gate that connected the demonic realm with Earth.

The monsters that Karin were looking for with his ability to detect magical energy signatures were monsters with intelligence.

We planned to use monsters that, while carrying intellect, did not possess any special powerful Authorities or were just weak in general and had difficulty surviving alone.

In short, monsters in a similar situation as Karin.

“Keruk!”

“Did you find any?”

“Found one!”

“Oh…. But who were you looking for specifically when you were using your search ability? How did you know that the monster you were looking for had intelligence?”

“Keruu. The monster is someone who had been serving Berdan with me until recently.”

“Aha! Coworker?”

“Keru?”

“Whew. Are you really using that term. He won’t understand at all. Rin, ignore him and keep going.”

“Since they worked under the same boss, they’re coworkers…..”

“Keruru. He was my one and only underling that made it possible for me to bear the brutal life of the demonic realm. We’re separated right now, but I accurately remember his magical energy signature.”

“Hm….. You’re on friendly terms with him? Then I don’t think this will work out…..”

“Kel? Why is that?”

“I’m going to send them through the Gate. He’s going to act as our messenger, traveling between Earth and demonic realm.”

“Keruruk. Are you worried that they’ll be lost in the crack in time?”

“Yeah. You said that you are fond of this monster. We can’t have that.”

“Kel kel! It doesn’t matter in his case.”

“Why is that?”

“His name is Barun. He’s a pathfinder goblin.”

“A pathfinder goblin?”

“That’s right. I do not know about other monsters, but he won’t be stuck in the crack between dimensions.”

“Oho…..”

“He cannot do what I do, which is having a pocket dimension and being able to search out targets based on their magical signatures, but he was born with that special ability instead.”

“Good. Let’s go find this Barun fellow.”

“Keruruk! Understood!”

****

We found the goblin named Barun that Karin was talking about.

Goblins are so weak that you could even consider their attack capabilities to be nonexistent.

In such a hostile realm, they lived quite miserable lives.

After all, instead of working for demonic leaders like Berdan or Ladin, they were working for what essentially was the local thug equivalent of a monster.

I did not know what they did to become so hated by Berdan, but they were barely surviving in their own ways.

Taking down the monster that was the boss of these goblins with ease, I offered them a deal.

It would be better for them to work for me as servants rather than being the underlings of other monsters, being treated like disposable peasants.

Barun accepted the offer immediately with gratitude.

He gathered a few goblins that would follow his orders and followed after me.

Using Barun as a messenger, I sent the bloodstones we’d been discarding without a care to Earth.

Here, the bloodstones were nothing more than rubble on the ground you’d trip on, but it would be very useful back on Earth as energy resources.

I also added messages on a letter that I wanted to send to my mother and the commander.

Obviously, the message also included a report of our situation and plans for the future.

In this suffocating life in the demonic realm, finally a way to contact Earth had been discovered.

I could finally breathe a little easier.

A little after Barun and the goblins entered the Gate, Karin detected the magical energy of Belkoseu from afar.

“Keruu. Min-Cheol, Belkoseu is coming.”

“Is that so? Pfft!”

“Keruru. I am also no longer afraid of Belkoseu! After all, he cannot even hold his own against you.”

“Of course, that’s obvious. Just because you’re in front of him, don’t be scared!”

“Kel kel. Understood!”

Until now, just hearing his name made me frustrated.

The feeling reminded me of not having done homework that was due the next day.

However, I no longer felt that way at all.

Just a couple hours ago, the situation had completely changed.

After moving closer to me, Belkoseu spoke.

“Kuhu. Today wasn’t an easy day to hunt.”

“Seems so. To think that we had to run from the demon king twice in a single day.”

“This is just a feeling I’m getting, but I think we’ll be running into them more often from here on out. What I mean by that is that we could be in far greater dangerous situations than what we faced today.”

“Hm…. It did seem that he was hunting me down with everything on the line. Still, all I have to do is run away using Warp. Isn’t that so?”

“Kuhmm….. That’s true……”

“Don’t worry about us and focus on gathering magical energies. It won’t be long before you should be able to face Ladin at the least.”

“…….”

“The biggest challenge would be getting them to separate them though.”

“If all goes according to your plan, then of course I’d be happy. However, if Jamon unseals the Chimera, it will become messy.”

“Chimera?”

“Keruruk! C…. Chimera…..”

“It seems that the goblin that serves you is aware of its existence.”

“Chimera….. Is he able to call forth summoned creatures as well?”

“Belkoseu, don’t beat around the bush. What’s a Chimera?”

“Jong-Ho…. The Chimera is……”

“Kuhoot. I shall explain for you.”

“……”

“One of the countless Authorities that the demon king possesses is the Unsealing. With that, he summons forth the strongest monster in the demonic realm.”

“Its strength?”

“For the Chimera, the concept of allies and enemies do not exist. You could say that it’s a monster that only follows its instincts.”

“So you’re saying that it’s a monster that will just run about wildly? Is it that dangerous?”

“I have not faced it myself. I have merely heard stories of it, passed down as legends in the demonic realm.”

“…….”

“The Chimera had existed since the creation of the demonic realm. You can say that it ruled the prehistoric demonic realm. And since it’s still alive even now, just imagine how strong it would be.”

“And you’re saying that this monster is under the thumb of the demon king? Something doesn’t add up.”

“Kuhoot. You can call it a mischievous prank by a god. The one who takes the throne of the demonic realm gets it as his or her property.”

“…….”

“Of course, the demon king would not be exactly the most comfortable unsealing the Chimera. Even he could meet his end by the hands of the Chimera, after all.”

“So you’re saying that the list of opponents to run away from is going to increase.”

“The Chimera will instinctively search after those with high amounts of magical energy. You might be okay if you could hide from its prying eyes, but if you cannot……”

“Isn’t this the worst case scenario though?”

“Kuhuhu. That’s true.”

“Then we’ll deal with it then if it comes down to it.”

“As expected, you’re anything but normal. However…. why have you been smiling at me like that?”

“Hm? No…. Nothing really. I think I’m getting more comfortable being around you.”

“……”

“You’re just imagining it. Just your imagination. We’ll be going to sleep now, so please keep a good eye out for the demon king.”

“Kuhoot. Will do.”

Why am I laughing?

I’ll let you know after the Demon King becomes a cold corpse.

146. One Who Died with a Full Belly Looks Better as a Ghost Than Those Who Died While Starving

The monster that answered Belkoseu’s call was a Kelvecore.

Kicking up a thick layer of dust, it came close before letting out a Fear.

This was a monster that had the heads of a lion, dog, and dragon.

In the past, there was a time where my life was in danger due to the vicious poison from its tail.

I was also a victim of its intense fire breath attack from the dragon head.

On top of that, it had wings, boasting high mobility.

One Earth, all types of attacks worked on the Kelvecore.

It was a hidden boss of a level 12 dungeon after all.

However this was the demonic realm.

Seeing as to how Belkoseu was acting, the monster must be stronger than a Lich King.

However, it was still just a monster to me.

Giving the smug Belkoseu a glance, I immediately poured down magic on the Kelvecore.

Meteor Call filled the demonic realm’s sky, falling down towards it.

The 6 Meteors summoned by both my hands hit dead center without the slightest error.

Who could receive such an attack and still stand.

Looking at the intense flames, I casted Eye of Insight.

However.

“Shield?”

“Kuhut. I did say that it’s not an easy opponent.”

“Amusing. Something like a Kelvecore knows how to use a shield.”

“Do I have to help you out?”

“Today’s hunt is by the humans. Why don’t you take a seat back there and watch?”

“Kuhahat! Right…. I shall observe.”

After the flames cleared, his form appeared clearly once more.

Almost as if a shield used by an Awakened had cracked due to receiving damage, I saw a barrier barely holding together protecting its form.

To think that it blocked a 30% magical energy increased Transcended Meteor Call, and 6 of them to boot.

And with the Archangel’s Fall, the damage should have increased against monsters.

I couldn’t hide my shock.

However, since I saw that it damaged his barrier, I knew that magical attacks worked on this monster.

This would only increase the duration of the battle, because no matter how many times it used its shields, it would not make much of a difference in deciding the victor of this battle.

“The attack patterns are still the same. There’s no adaptation, none at all.”

Out of the 3 heads, the dragon one used a powerful breath attack.

Instead of calling it flames, the attack it spewed out was closer to magma.

The breath attack that landed on the Mana Shield kept on burning, trying to chew its way through the shield.

However, that didn’t last long, as the Mana Shield absorbed the breath attack as if it was brushing aside dust.

The poison sting attack from its tail followed suit.

However, it was far from enough to take down my Mana Shield.

Receiving all of its attacks without concern, I continued to pour down my skills.

Its shields became transparent, seeming ready to disappear at any moment.

-CRACK!

With that, the shield that was covering the Kelvecore shattered.

Since it might cast its shield again, I increased the intensity of my attacks.

Within the downpour of attacks, there wasn’t any patterns or strategies to be found.

I was spamming down spells without much thought after all.

“KWEHHH!”

“KWUHRUU. KUHUNG!”

The first to go from the fierce attacks were the wings.

The wings that were barely stuck to its body were ripped and torn apart, falling to the floor.

Being pinned down to the floor from the attacks, it was letting out its unique Fear.

“How cute.”

It was then.

I could hear Karin’s voice mixed with urgency.

“Keruk! Min-Cheol! I can sense their magical energy.”

“Human. You need to hurry. Jamon is coming.”

“Why now….. It’ll be done soon. Karin, get ready to run.”

“Kel! Got it.”

“Wait, no. Hyung-nim.”

“Yeah.”

“Take Karin with you and run. Your Warp isn’t off cooldown yet. We don’t know what’ll happen if we face them here.”

“Min-Cheol, you should give up on the Kelvecore and retreat together. We can take it down another time.”

“The Demon King is coming. Do you think he’ll leave the Kelvecore alone? There’s no next time.”

“Don’t be greedy. Just listen to hyung this time.”

“It’ll be quick. I can’t give up on it.”

“Whew…. Who can stop you. Rin, let’s go!”

“Kerut! Min-Cheol, give it up! Let’s leave together!”

“Go ahead first. I’ll catch up soon. Hey, Belkoseu.”

“Hm?”

“You’ll need to welcome them. Buy some time for me.”

“Will do.”

“KUWUHH!”

Reflecting my urgency, my attacks increased in intensity.

Jong Ho and Karin had retreated. And Belkoseu had went out to block the Demon King and Ladin.

The reason why I could take this risk was because I could use Warp.

With Jong Ho, since he did not have high strength stats, he couldn’t move quickly.

That’s why whenever the demon king’s magical energy was detected, he had to use Warp.

However, it was a different story for me.

Since I had over 3 million strength, I could escape the area fast enough even after Karin or Belkoseu detected the magical energy of the Demon King.

Of course, Belkoseu stalling them definitely helped.

Just in case, I casted Warp connecting to a location nearby Berdan’s castle ahead of time.

“Please die! Die!”

“Damn it. What kind of a monster is this!”

“KUUNG!”

Due to the insane amounts of attacks I was landing on it, its form began to crumble.

It did not have almost any flesh left on its body, leaving giant bones like that of a dinosaur at a museum.

I was incredibly annoyed at how it still held onto life.

It didn’t last much longer though.

Finally, it collapsed onto the ground.

A massive amount of loot floated above the bones of the Kelvecore.

Most of it were bloodstones and jewels, but there were a few artifacts and a skill book here and there.

There was a reason why I couldn’t help but have high expectations for this monster’s loot drops.

And it delivered, dropping loot good enough to entice me.

“Skill beyond ranking skill book? Good.”

A skill book beyond ranking came into my sights.

Unlike the skill books so far, it was skill book that didn’t reveal its details even with the Eye of Insight.

And the requirements were completely different from before.

It happened when I moved hastily to obtain the skill book.

“Shit……”

“The hide and seek is over, human.”

“Jamon? Ladin? Which one of the two is you?”

“I shall kill you in the most brutal and painful way possible. So much so that if there is a next life for you, you’ll remember. I shall sear it into your mind. Remember. I am Jamon! Demon King Jamon!”

“Damn it.”

Unlucky for me, it was the Demon King.

However, even in this situation, my focus was on the skill book beyond ranking.

All I had to do was to grab it and throw myself into the Warp.

It would take at most 3 seconds to do so.

However, would this guy give me those 3 seconds for free?

Many thoughts raced across my mind.

The conclusion I made was of greed and danger.

‘They say even a ghost looks better if they died with a fully belly, don’t they? Even if it kills me, I have to get that.’

It would only take a moment.

I did not have the slightest of intentions to make this a long fight.

I cast all of my shields at once.

It was enough shielding to withstand all of the attacks of every single Awakened on Earth.

Even if he was a Demon King, it would be impossible to break through all of these shields.

I knew that thinking about it more would just intensify my fears.

I charged forward like lightning and picked up the skill book.

I had already succeeded halfway through.

Pushing with this momentum, it happened the moment I tried to run towards the Warp.

“Damn it!”

“I said that the hide and seek is over. Die!”

“Sorry, but I don’t like being it!”

In a split second, his attacks began to break apart my shields.

Due to his swift attacks that I could not follow with my eyes, the shields that were sturdy like castle walls popped like balloons.

However, thankfully, my Mana Shield was still holding steady, protecting me.

Due to his attacks being simple in nature, the Mana Shield held.

The Demon King was far stronger than what Jong Ho had said and what I had thought.

He was strong enough to make me doubt that I could take him down by growing stronger in due time.

Noticing that his attacks weren’t working on me, he instantly made space between us and prepared a powerful attack.

Not wasting this chance, I hurled myself as hard as I could into the Warp.

“KUACK!”

****

“Damn it! Kuhhuk!”

It could have been really bad back there.

Thanks to entering the Warp as the attack landed on me, I was able to avoid being hit by all of it.

Despite that, my arm hung limply as if it had been hit by a tank shell.

Not only did the armor break, but bits of flesh was missing as well.

It was an injury severe enough to show bone.

Thankfully it was my arm that took the hit. If I had received such an attack on my chest or other vitals….

I couldn’t help but feel despair at the Demon King’s strength, but I regained my composure and began healing myself.

Despite it being a severe injury, it wasn’t severe enough to cast Status Denial.

Even stopping the cast of Mana Shield, I used all my available free hands on Mega Cure.

It would be normal for me to recover fully soon, especially with my stamina stat and the amount that Mega Cure healed.

I was applying three healing spells on top of my stamina stat that was enough to recover on its own, after all.

However, the damage I took from Jamon’s attack didn’t recover so easily, almost as if I had received a debuff that prevented me for healing myself.

“Still, this much is a cheap price to pay for learning what Jamon’s attack is like…..”

It took a very long time before my arm recovered its form.

Only then did the pain subside, and I finally noticed the skill book being held by the hand that was once torn like rags.

The skill book was white as if it was covered in flour.

It was a skill book that I could not give up, even if it meant risking my life.

For skill books beyond ranking, even using the Eye of Insight doesn’t reveal all of its information.

Instead, it only shows the requirements needed to use it.

However, that was enough for me.

It was because the requirements was something that I’ve never seen or heard of before.

[No level requirement.]

[10,000 strength stat required.]

[10,000 mana stat required.]

[10,000 dexterity stat required.]

[10,000 stamina stat required.]

[All requirements met.]

[Will you obtain Eternal Rest?]

“Please be worth at least my life.”

145. Tom and Jerry

“KUHAHAK!”

“Belkoseu, it’s your turn.”

“Kuhut. Well done, human.”

We focused on killing monsters that with the magical energy pools that had the potential of becoming demon kings.

Leaving behind the monster that was barely alive, we passed the finishing touches to Belkoseu.

With a wicked smile, he landed the finishing blow and moved on.

My eyes met with Karin, and I spoke.

“Oh. Our incredibly loyal goblin Karin!”

“Keheh? Min-Cheol, did I do something wrong?”

“What do you mean you did something wrong. I heard you talking with Belkoseu before dawn.”

“Kehk! Did you wake up because of me being too loud? Sorry……”

“You don’t have to worry about it. And also, you seemed to hold your own pretty well against Belkoseu?”

“What? Something like that happened? Rin’s quite amazing, don’t you think?”

Jong Ho, who was next to me, began to call him Rin as a nickname.

Karin was overjoyed like a child.

You could tell how happy he was from the way his shoulders were outstretched and his belly was protruding outwards.

With his chin raised, he spoke.

“Kerururu. I already know that we face danger at least once a day if I travel with you two.”

“……”

“I was quite scared of him for awhile, but not anymore. Keruruk. Dying one way or another, it’s still death.”

“Pfft. Why do you conclude on death? We all need to make it out alive. Either way, good work.”

“Kel kel. It would have been better if I could’ve learned more…… Kehheck!”

“Hm? Are they coming here?”

Karin’s expression and shock meant the obvious.

It meant that someone incredibly strong was nearby.

After all, the expression he was making was the same as when he had first sensed the magical energies of the Demon King, Ladin, and Belkoseu.

Belkoseu, who had finished absorbing the magical energies, seemed to have noticed as well.

There weren’t many that would take them by surprise.

Jamon and Ladin must be nearing our location.

Belkoseu spoke with a frown on his face.

“Tsk! Human.”

“…….”

“Due to being absorbed in the task of draining magical energies, I have let down my guard. They’re rushing here…….”

“By they….. You mean the Demon King and Ladin are coming here together?”

“Keruuk! That’s right, Min-Cheol. We need to run away.”

“How long till they’re here?”

“I estimated 5 minutes. It’s unfortunate, but it seems that today’s hunting stops here.”

“5 minutes….. Hyung-nim.”

“Hm?”

“Let’s meet up at Berdan’s castle. Use your Warp skill.”

“Okay. What about you?”

“I have to escape with Karin. 5 minutes should be possible.”

“Kehel.”

“I will buy time by stopping those two.”

“Alright. I guess those two do not approve of our alliance.”

“Kuhut. They hunt with fire in their eyes. Weaklings. They fear my growth.”

“Belkoseu, we’ll group up and then find you. Stop them until you cannot detect our magical energies anymore.”

“Do not worry. Hurry and go.”

“……”

Jong Ho immediately casted Warp and went to a location near Berdan’s castle.

Holding Karin in my arms, I began to run as fast as I could.

We needed to make enough distance to make sure that they could no longer detect our magical energies.

Thanks to the Demon King’s pursuit, we found ourselves making a run for it far more often than before.

On Earth, I have never fled before.

There had been cases of my enemies fleeing due to fear of my strength before though.

That was expected, since I have not met an opponent I had to flee from until now.

My pride was a bit hurt, but that didn’t matter.

I was far from being ready to face him, and preparations weren’t finished.

It was because I had underestimated the Demon King.

I ran until Karin let out a sigh of relief.

Since I could not read magical energies myself, I had to rely on Karin to do so.

And finally…

“Keruu……. It seems that Belkoseu is doing a good job holding back the Demon King and Ladin.”

“That’s a relief.”

“Min-Cheol. Aren’t you tired?”

“I’m healing myself constantly as I run, so I’m not fatigued at all.”

“Keruk. Then let’s hurry and get to where Jong Ho is.”

“Right. Guess it’ll take about an hour to get to the castle?”

“That’s right. Once we reach there, I’ll try to detect the exact location of the Demon King.”

“Ok.”

****

“You’re here?”

“Yes. Guess you cleared the area around the Gate?”

“Yep. There wasn’t anything else to do. I did notice how good Full Heal is though?”

“I’m using it whenever I have the time. Since the summons are now receiving infinite healing, they should be able to defeat any regular monsters with ease.”

“I agree. These summons that were struggling with just handling the fights are now gathering jewels in their spare time, you know?”

“Pfft! Devil Avatar…. I’ve taught them once to gather jewels. I think it was in the Unknown Dungeon.”

“Since the summons were called forth by a human, the enemies killed drop artifacts. Thinking of using them was an amazing idea.”

“So cute of them. We’ll use the jewels later.”

“What about Belkoseu?”

“No idea. Since he won’t die no matter what, we don’t have to worry. We have other things to worry about.”

“You mean the Demon King’s movements?”

“Yes. They are trying to find us in earnest. The fact that we’re making Belkoseu stronger must have caught their attention.”

“That’s to be expected, since they do not have a way to take down Belkoseu. It’s the same with us, though.”

“Since they’re seriously searching for us now, we need to be on a higher level of alertness.”

“Hm….. Karin.”

“Keruru. What is it, Jong Ho?”

“Your ability to read magical energies and finding the location of those you are searching for, is it a common ability amongst Puppet Goblins?”

“Kerururu. No. All monsters can read the flow of magical energies around them, but my ability isn’t common. You can say that it’s a very rare ability in the demonic realm.”

“”Hm…… Min-Cheol. The reason that they headed for the location that we were at was…..”

“We can think of 3 possibilities. They could’ve have near us by chance. The Demon King, Ladin, or someone else with them has the Authority to search for targets via magical energy signatures. The last one is that they’re flipping through the entire demonic realm in search for us. I think that about sums it up.”

“I’m hoping that they don’t have anyone who can search via magical energy signatures…….”

“I’m absolutely positive that the Demon King and Ladin do not have such capabilities. It’s been many days since we started hunting, but they’ve just found us now. The problem is that someone with such an Authority has lent them his or her assistance……. The truth behind that would be revealed to us soon in due time.”

“I guess we’ll find out if we camp and wait patiently near where Belkoseu is waiting for us.”

“That’s right. No matter which one out of the three possibilities I’ve stated, we’re in a dangerous situation.”

“Hm……”

“On days where we have to run due to the appearance of the Demon King, let’s halt hunting for that day.”

“Don’t you think that’s a bit too much?”

“It’s due to the cooldown of Warp. When we run from them, there are no other skills as surefire as that.”

“If the worst case scenario is true, and they can now detect us via searching for magical energy signatures…….”

“Then we have to hunt while risking our lives. Hopefully it doesn’t come down to that.”

“……”

“Let’s check on the Gate once more before we go to where Belkoseu is.”

“Let’s do so. Karin, can you search for Belkoseu’s location?”

“Kerut. Understood. But what if he’s still fighting with the Demon King?”

“Don’t worry about that. I’m sure that the Demon King tired himself out and has given up.”

“Keruru. Then…..”

Karin used his ability to find out where Belkoseu was.

It was a location that wasn’t far from where we had ran away from.

He was waiting for us there.

“Damn, we’re running all day because of the Demon King. Let’s go!”

****

The chase from the Demon King and Ladin continued.

However, the frequency of running into them weren’t that often.

It seemed that they did not have any monsters that had the same ability as Karin had.

That’s to be expected, since a monster with both intelligence and the ability to search for magical energy signatures must be incredibly rare.

Karin’s case was incredibly lucky.

For a Puppet Goblin, who is in the lowest in the ranks of the demonic realm, these abilities were far beyond what was fitting for his rank.

However, when they found us, the hunting ended for the day as Jong Ho had said.

It was because safety came first.

Belkoseu understood that as well.

He knew that without us, his growth would be halted as well.

However, this only meant that hunting for Belkoseu’s growth had stopped.

This had no effect on our growth.

Belkoseu kept calling in high ranking monsters like the Lich King to one spot.

Like how the smell of steak can lure in Karin, monsters were called and came endlessly.

This was an incredible benefit for us.

Instead of focusing on hunting that prioritized Belkoseu’s growth, which took the majority of the day, we could focus on our growth.

Even today’s hunting was purely for our benefit.

It was because the moment we started hunting for Belkoseu today, we had to lose the Demon King’s chase.

Our last resort method to escape, Warp, had more than 11 hours before the skill would be off cooldown.

We couldn’t move recklessly right now.

Regrouping with Belkoseu, I spoke.

“Sorry it turned out this way.”

“Kuhu. The demon king’s pursuit intensifies.”

“Well, it’s good for us. Not sure about how you feel about this.”

“Doesn’t matter. I have been waiting for hundreds of years. Do you think I’d be disappointed in waiting a few more days?”

“You have a good mindset. Then I’ll be counting on you today as well. Bring us some decent ones please.”

“Kuhut. Will do.”

Belkoseu lifted up both his arms up to the height of his shoulders.

At first, I had thought that he merely commanded monsters weaker than him, but now I had the suspicion that it was one of his Authorities.

There was a possibility that he had the Authority to read the magical energies nearby and choose monsters to be brought over at will.

It happened when 3 monsters had been brought here at his will.

At his command, the monsters stood still without any resistance.

“Giving up their lives as if it was nothing…… The demonic realm is an interesting place.”

“Kuhaha. Go ahead and reap as you wish.”

“I’ll accept your offer and do so.”

They all stood in a line.

I swung the Butcher’s Sword at the monster’s weaknesses, revealed to me by Eye of Insight.

Perhaps they did not have any physical resistances, because they fell bleeding with a single strike.

An incredible amount of artifacts poured out.

Seeing that, Karin automatically moved.

It was because he knew that we couldn’t touch the drops carelessly.

Perhaps because this wasn’t the first few times he did this, he quickly organized them into clean neat piles.

Looking at that, Belkoseu spoke with a surprised expression.

“Oho. Perhaps today is your lucky day, human.”

“……”

“A monsters strong enough that you’d be satisfied by is coming.”

“KURURU! KUNG!”

“Oho….. Kelvecore? But I could see a monster at that level pretty easily on Earth though?”

“Kuhat. I wonder if you can say the same thing after confirming just how strong he is. With his level of power, that is the strongest monster I can gather. That means that I can’t suppress that monster.”

“Then I’ll have to show you the dignity of humans after surviving the hellish Earth your monsters turned it to be as it is now.”

I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 144

144. Give and Take

Jamon and Ladin were gathered at the Demon King’s castle.

Their expressions were filled with worry unlike anything before.

A few days ago, the two of them noticed that the human who had crossed over from Earth engaged in combat against Belkoseu.

The results should have been either the death of one of them or the two of them putting distance between one another due to either being evenly matched or one fleeing the other.

However, as if to mock his expectations, whenever Belkoseu and the human were outputting energy to take out monsters, the magical energies he sensed were at the same location.

This meant that Belkoseu and the human were moving together.

“Ladin.”

“Yes, Demon King.”

“Their movements are very concerning.”

“……”

“I can sense the magical energies of the human and Belkoseu in the same place!”

“To think it would come down to this….”

“When Belkoseu and the human fought, you must’ve also sensed that Belkoseu’s magical energy signature was snuffed out.”

“……”

“That meant that he would have lost his life. However, due to his Authority, he regained his life. This means that even with the power of that human, he still cannot be defeated.”

“It is as you say, Demon King.”

“Confirming that he cannot kill Belkoseu, he should’ve ran. But look at the current situation. The two of them have allied with one another!”

Unable to keep his anger in check, Jamon destroyed a corner of his castle.

When Min-Cheol and Jong Ho fought against Berdan, this was the same building material that wasn’t even scratched despite all the spells they fired.

The construction material used in the demonic realm boasted sturdiness, if anything else.

However, the Demon King easily turned it to dust.

It was obvious that his destructive capabilities were far beyond that of Min-Cheol’s.

Currently, Ladin was the second highest rank in the demonic realm.

He possessed a great amount of power, but right now, he was before the Demon King.

Misspeaking a single word and the Demon King could easily take his life away.

Trying his best to avoid upsetting him, he carefully spoke to the Demon King.

“Demon King.”

“Kuhu……”

“When the human and Belkoseu first clashed with one another, I was hopeful for one thing.”

“…….”

“I had hoped that Belkoseu would perish from the human’s attacks. However, unlike what I had hoped for, the human was unable to stop him from reviving.”

“What are you trying to say!”

“Belkoseu cannot be stopped. This means that the human who is helping him grow stronger must be taken out.”

“Continue.”

“As you know, Belkoseu has a pathetic offensive capability. Without the help of that human, he wouldn’t be able to gather enough magical energy to be considered a threat even if hundreds of years passed. That’s why we need to strike them now. What we need now isn’t power or Authority. What we need is to know where they’re at and where they plan to move. So…. It’s probably best that you unseal it…..”

“Undo the seals….. Do you mean the Chimera?”

“Yes, Demon King.”

“Ladin…..”

“Yes.”

“It was a brief moment, but you did hold the title of Demon King before.”

“That…. Hm….”

“Have I touched upon a sensitive topic?”

“N… No…..”

Ladin instantly became pale.

As if he had remembered a past he did not wish to remember, his eyes lost their focus, and his lips trembled in fear.

That’s right. As expected, Ladin once was the Demon King.

At least until Jamon was born.

The demonic realm was like this. The ranks would be organized under how powerful your Authority was.

After Jamon’s first appearance, it only took 10 years before Ladin had to step down from the seat of the Demon King.

In a world where the Demon King would be chosen based on having the most magical energy, this instance was common.

The unsealing of the Chimera was something that only the Demon King had the authority to do so.

While the Demon King continued to speak, Ladin wiped the cold sweat off himself.

“Don’t you know what it means to unseal the Chimera?”

“However, there is no other way at this moment. Monsters that can track magical energies are rare. The pathetic goblin that travels with the… the one that we ignored who goes by the name of Karin has that ability.”

“Is there really no other way?”

“Yes, Demon King. Right now, it is the only way.”

“The Chimera….. Might be more than I can handle. You are aware of this, right?”

“I am well aware. Their ferocity is something that even you cannot suppress… However, they are a much better alternative to Belkoseu’s growth.”

“I understand what you’re saying, but I will not summon the Chimera now.”

“…..”

“It will be used as a last resort. That’s just how much destructive force the Chimera will bring to all sides, collateral damage or not.”

“Then….”

“That’s right. We move, starting now.”

“We don’t have a way of finding out their exact location…..”

“Even if we have to look under every nook and cranny of the demonic realm, we must find them!”

“I understand your will, Demon King.”

Finishing their talk, the Demon King and Ladin immediately stood up.

It was to begin their search in honest for Belkoseu and the human.

Their first target was the human named Min-Cheol.

Belkoseu was an opponent that, even if found, they could not kill.

This meant that they had to kill the human who is helping him grow stronger, putting a halt to his growth that not only threatened his claim to the throne, but to the rest of the demonic realm as well.

One could see the determination radiating from the two of them as they left the demon king’s castle.

Their resolute appearance showed that they would do whatever it took to take down the human, even if they would incur major losses.

****

The hunt with Belkoseu went rapidly enough to make the day feel short.

It was pointless to consider time in terms of human civilization in a world where the sun did not rise or set, but we could still tell the time thanks to Jong Ho’s wristwatch.

15 to 16 hours a day were spent on hunting, with 14 purely focused on hunting if one subtracted the time it took for meals and maintaining gear.

Most of the time was spent on getting Belkoseu stronger.

With Karin and Belkoseu in the lead, we searched for monsters with powerful magical energies as if we were checking for a pulse, and the two of us had the role of beating down the monsters to an inch of their lives.

It was Belkoseu’s role to be the executioner.

After all, the requirement for absorbing magical energy was to be the one to execute the monster.

We didn’t spend that much obtaining artifacts, the reason for the alliance in my part.

All that happened was that Belkoseu would call in monsters that stood out to me while we searched for the monsters Belkoseu wanted.

Since he had magical energy similar to that of the chiefs of the demonic realm, the monsters could not resist his commands and followed his will.

Before going to bed each night, I checked the jewels and artifacts obtained for that day, growing stronger in a way that the Demon King and Belkoseu could not understand.

Since they only knew how to read magical energies, there was no way they could tell if I was growing stronger.

Days had passed, but Karin still was still fearful of Belkoseu.

During the time Jong Ho and I slept, he had to spend time with Belkoseu by himself.

He had to make sure that Belkoseu wasn’t up to anything and keep checking if the Demon King and Ladin were nearby.

The sleepless monsters had to spend their time waiting.

His fear continued.

It was 4 am in Earth time.

Waking up from my slumber, I silently observed the two of them some distance away.

Karin did not allow Belkoseu to get any closer than a certain distance.

I heard the sound of them talking.

“You’re quite easily scared, goblin.”

“Keh… Kel. I’m not afraid…. Kel? Not afraid!”

“Kuhuhu. Yeah, sure. You said your name is Karin?”

“Kehel…. That’s right!”

“Let me ask you one thing. Why did a servant of Berdan switch sides to be with the humans?”

“Kuhm…….. I like these two humans. It’s not only because Berdan perished. Even if he didn’t perish, I still would’ve followed them.

“Oho. That’s rather amusing. You liked them enough to betray your master that you served for centuries?”

“Kehruruk! This is not a betrayal!”

“Not a betrayal….. Then what is it?”

“You wouldn’t understand the odd powers they carry.”

“Powers? Are you talking about their attacks from another dimension that does not require magical energies?”

“Keru. That’s part of it. However, you cannot judge them with that alone.”

“Then?”

“I cannot explain it with words. Even though I’m not of the same race, they still welcomed my monster self.”

“Kuhut. Isn’t it because you’re a weak foolish monster?”

“Kehek! Shut up! You know nothing!”

“Kuhat! You guys sure are amusing.”

That little guy was holding his own pretty well against that guy.

Mustering up what fierceness he could, he stood his ground.

With this, Karin’s trust in us was proven to be absolute.

I wasn’t satisfied from learning just this information, and wanted Karin to question Belkoseu.

I hoped that he would ask what Belkoseu really wanted.

Almost as if reading my mind, Karin opened his mouth to speak.

“Keruu. This time, I’ll ask the questions.”

“……”

“Jamon…. After you and the humans defeat the Demon King, what will you do?”

“Everyone wants to obtain great power. I am the same. Just as you do, I do not break promises. If the Demon King is defeated…. I will spend my life ruling over the demonic realm. I want nothing more and nothing less than that.”

“Kehheh. I asked a pointless question. I will keep reading your magical energy at all times.”

“Kuhu. You are quite doubtful.”

“If you’re up to anything, just go be a parasite to a monster instead, and not this human. You cannot fool the great Karin.”

“Kuha. I will keep that in mind.”

“One more thing! Your Authority!”

“…….”

“Min-Cheol and Jong Ho knows about two of your Authorities. One is the Undying Authority. And then there is the limitless capacity to store magical energies. However, that’s not all there is, is there?”

“Of course.”

“How many do you have? And what are the Authorities?”

“Kuhut. Let’s get to know each other as we go along.”

“Tsk!”

It seemed that Karin was doing his best.

As I listened in on the conversation, I realized what a mistake it was to think that he only had two Authorities.

I did not know how many Authorities he had nor did I know what they all did.

It seemed as though another reason to be cautious with him and keep track of his moves had popped up.

I prayed that I would be able to obtain the upper hand in this dangerous deal.

****

So far, the hunting hasn’t yielded anything significant.

The one positive outcome was that the Louver’s Ring obtained a 10% magical energy bonus.

There was a chance that the ring would have been destroyed by attempting to enhance it with the jewels.

On top of that, the success rate of jewels in the demonic realm was absolutely abysmal.

However, the set bonus effect from the Louver armaments, which gave a shield, was something that I didn’t need that badly right now.

I had more than enough shields, all very high level and with insane absorption numbers.

Without much care for the destruction of the ring, I had recklessly applied an enhancement jewel for the heck of it, succeeding in the process.

However, I wasn’t that happy.

To be honest, the real enemy wasn’t the Demon King, but Belkoseu.

The Demon King could be beaten at some point.

Even if it took a long time, it could be done.

However, it wasn’t the same case with Belkoseu.

His potential for growth was near limitless, so he needed to be taken down as soon as possible.

That’s why I wanted artifacts with special abilities or skill books.

I was searching for something that could get rid of his undying status.

“It’s a short alliance. Before it ends… please, drop already.”

143. Alliance

“Whew……”

Due to my attacks continuing to rain down on him, he was torn apart.

He didn’t take any damage from my physical attacks, but now he could not stand against my magical attacks.

He did not resist in the slightest, taking the full brunt of the attacks.

Eventually, letting out a moan of pain, he sank to his knees.

His body bled nonstop.

Receiving such a fierce attack, it wouldn’t have surprised me to find that his entire body had evaporated.

Enduring all this was enough for me to praise him.

I landed the finishing blow on his body that was hanging on to life by a thread.

Praying that he would not rise again, I attacked.

A massive mountain of ice rose up from the ground, completely encasing him.

The Eye of Insight that marked him with a red dot no longer did so.

This meant that he had perished.

I did not leave this spot, but instead surveyed the surroundings.

Belkoseu had the title of Immortal Knight.

I believed that I could get rid of him using the skills that humans used, but I had a bad feeling about it still.

I had the suspicion that he would rise again once more, despite having perished.

A minute passed.

My expectations were that Jamon and Ladin had taken notice of this fight.

Despite still in the process of growing stronger, they probably couldn’t ignore the amount of magical energy BElkoseu carried.

And there was no doubt in my mind that I was under their close surveillance.

If I did not engage in combat and stood still, my exact position wouldn’t have been given away, but the situation wasn’t ideal in this case.

It wouldn’t take that long before the two of them were upon us.

‘Since he hasn’t risen again, I guess it’s surely over?’

I was relieved, but also regretful.

If he obtained a massive amount of magical energy, I wouldn’t be able to stop him no matter what I tried.

It was the right decision to shut down any chances of him growing stronger.

With his broken remains of a corpse behind me, I began to walk.

Uninvited guests were coming, after all.

However, the moment that I took a single step away, it happened.

“Hm?”

I could hear the sound of liquids bubbling.

It made sickening plopping sounds as if in a swamp.

Naturally, I turned around, praying that he wouldn’t revive.

However, the result wasn’t good.

What I hoped wouldn’t happen had occurred.

There’s a saying that an intuition expecting a sad event is never wrong.

The pile of shredded meat that was the remains of his former body began to slowly gather, regaining its form.

“I guess I was wrong…..”

“……”

The red dot from the Eye of Insight came back.

As his form recovered further, the mark became clearer.

This moment was evidence that I was completely wrong.

Belkoseu could not die from any attacks.

He was a lifeform that really was immortal.

Was there not a method to silence him forever?

I was planning on using him to help take down the Demon King and Ladin.

It was the same with my plans of obtaining loot.

This alliance would let me easily obtain loot without having to go all over the place.

However, experiencing his revival with my own eyes, I couldn’t help but rethink my plans.

What would happen if he became strong as, if not, stronger than the demon king?

I did speak with our informant of the demonic realm, Karin, about this before.

I asked him if there really wasn’t a way to defeat BElkoseu.

Even under specific hard to reach conditions, was there really not a single way to take him down?

The answer to that was none.

After recovering fully, a smug smile adorned his face as he rotated his shoulders and cracked his neck.

Looking at him, I thought to myself.

‘I cannot give up on the loot. Just for a little while…. We’ll keep this dangerous alliance for a bit.’

Drawing magical energy into his hands, he began to create his armor once more.

I had thought that his armor was made from processing bloodstones, but it seemed that he made it using his own magical energy.

Finishing repairs, he spoke to me.

“Whew…. I wasn’t wrong about you.”

“……”

“Since you had taken down Berdan, I expected you to be amazing, but to think that you were this strong. I cannot stop being flabbergasted at your strength.”

“Same here. I thought that you would never rise again from my attacks.”

“Kuhuhu. Did I not tell you so…… My power is Undying Authority. So now that we got that out of the way, are we finalizing this alliance?”

“There is one thing that bothers me, but we’ll go through with it.”

“What is it?”

“I’ll explain this as simply as I can. I can kill you.”

“That’s right.”

“However, if you become stronger through me, then you can imagine the implications.”

“…..”

“When you reach that point in strength, you break our alliance and make Earth your target, I will be helpless before your might.”

“Kuhuhu…… It’s obvious that you don’t trust me. However, that won’t happen. Where are you going with this?”

“…….”

“Are you perhaps asking me to divulge a method to eliminate me?”

“Oho? That would be great. However, I don’t think that you would divulge such information that would put you at such a disadvantage?”

“Kuhahat! You’re rather sharp. If you’re curious, I’ll tell you. There is no way. Well, there might be, but do you think I’d know such a way? I merely use my unique Authority to my advantage. I was created by the gods, but I doubt that they would let me walk the same path as them…… What is this safety mechanism that you wish for?”

“Guarantee? There’s no such thing. Just know this. Do not think of betraying me. And our alliance lasts only until Jamon is defeated.”

“Good. Then we’ll be competing to take the Demon King’s life.”

“For now, we change locations.”

“Pfft. Jamon. He’s running as fast as he can. Alright.”

“Then…….”

****

“Keruu….. Jong Ho.”

“Hm?”

“What time did Min-Cheol say he’d be back? Is it not time yet?”

“How many times are you going to ask me. Over an hour at the least.”

“Kehel…. Wouldn’t be a good idea to try detecting Min-Cheol’s magical energy?”

“Hm…. Your ability isn’t something that you can constantly use. Be patient for a bit longer. He’ll be here soon.”

“Kehmuru……”

“Instead of worrying about that, focus on the magical energies near you if you want to avoid getting done in like the last time.”

“I got it. Kel?”

“What is it? Who is coming?”

“Min-Cheol is coming! Kerururu… Keheck?”

“Why? Why are you being so surprised that Min-Cheol is coming?”

“Keh….. Be…. Bel…. Belkoseu!”

“What do you mean? Are you saying that Min-Cheol and Belkoseu are coming together?”

“Keck! Kurk! Kurk!”

Karin began to hiccup due to being so nervous.

Jong Ho could only look at him with worry filling his eyes.

A few moments later….

“I think they’re here?”

“Kuhuck! Kurk!”

“Shit…. What is that…..”

I saw Min-Cheol walking towards us from far away.

However, he wasn’t alone.

Next to him was a man in black armor and cape walking alongside him.

Jong Ho immediately called for Karin.

“Karin. Are you sure that the person next to him is Belkoseu?”

“Kurk! That’s right. Kurk!”

“Just what is he thinking…..?”

Without any concern towards how surprised Jong Ho and Karin was, Min-Cheol walked up to the Immortal Knight Belkoseu without a care in the world.

Jong Ho followed his instincts and prepared to fight.

Monsters were akin to dolls for humans in terms of trust.

However, the aura Belkoseu carried felt bad enough for him to be on edge.

Min-Cheol spoke up.

“Did I keep you waiting for long? Thankfully it ended earlier than I thought.”

“……”

“What’s wrong?”

“Kurk! Mi… Min-Cheol. Next to you……”

“Ah, Belkoseu? He’ll be accompanying us for awhile.”

“What? Do you know how crazy you sound right now?”

“Kuhu. You also carry a lot of magical energies…”

“…..”

“There’s no need to be on guard. I have agreed to an alliance with him. It won’t be a long one though.”

“Wait a moment. Min-Cheol, let us talk for a bit.”

“Alright.”

“Keheck! Kurk! Family! Me too. Let me in too. Take me with you.”

“Kuhuuu…..”

“There’s no need to be scared. It’s going to be okay, Karin.”

“Keheck!”

Leaving the trembling Karin behind, Jong Ho and I gathered at a place far away from Belkoseu.

Perhaps Jong Ho couldn’t believe what he was witnessing, because he asked me with a flabbergasted look on his face.

“How did it come to this?”

“As I said, we’ve formed an alliance.”

“Cast Silent.”

“…….”

A thin barrier formed to surround Min-Cheol and Jong Ho.

Silent, a skill that prevented sound from traveling outside, was casted.

Even though we were far away from Belkoseu, Jong Ho couldn’t hide his anxiety.

“Are you insane?”

“…….”

“Just what reason do you have for making an alliance with that monster…..”

“I couldn’t kill him.”

“What?”

“I couldn’t defeat him with Awakened skills.”

“This just gets better….”

“That’s why I thought we might as well make an alliance.”

“You should’ve just left him be! You should’ve just ran away at that point!”

“Hyungnim. At this rate, we don’t know when we can take down the demon king and return home. What Karin said about the endeavor taking over a hundred years as a joke might come to fruition. And even if we run away right now, the situation won’t change. We can slow down his growth, but we can’t stop it. It’s a problem that we’ll have to deal with at some point in order to gain complete dominion over the demonic realm.”

“Whew…. What did he want? Let’s hear it.”

“You can already guess. It’s magical energies.”

“What can we obtain from this?”

“Artifacts and jewels.”

“Min-Cheol. You need to think this through. That guy doesn’t die. We can’t kill him no matter what we do. But you’re going to help him grow stronger? To take down Jamon and Ladin? While we try to catch a cat, we can get bitten by a tiger!”

“I also thought that as well.”

“……”

“Hyung-nim. Did I already tell you that I’m sure of this?”

“You also said that your belief that he won’t revive was wrong.”

“……”

“Min-Cheol. I believe in you. I don’t think that you made the wrong decision.”

“……”

“You must have thought this through several times. But this, I cannot understand. Are you sure that I can trust in you?”

“There must be a way to defeat him. Until we find out how, let’s use him to our convenience.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. There definitely is. And I don’t plan to let him grow strong as the Demon King.”

“Of course.”

“It’ll be brief. Until then, we need to get as much as artifacts and jewels out of him.”

Jong Ho looked into Min-Cheol’s eyes for a long time.

He could not understand what Min-Cheol was thinking in the slightest.

However, since he had never let him down before, Jong Ho decided to follow him still.

Letting out a long sigh, Jong Ho spoke.

“Whew…… Alright, let’s do as you say.”

“Thank you, hyung-nim.”

“Tell him to immediately summon Lich Kings!”

“Pfft. I got your order. Let’s go!”

“Alright! I don’t know anymore! Whatever, let’s just do it!”

142. Trade with Belkoseu

“Do you know how I lasted in the demonic realm?”

“……”

“This body was not meant to become one of the demonic chiefs or the demon king. At least it was? I was a low ranking monster, similar to the Puppet Goblin that travels with you.”

“Sounds like you’re talking about a past far away?”

“However, now I have become someone that even the demon king wishes not to face. Isn’t that strange? Despite being on the lowest of the food chain in the past, now I am able to stand as equals against the demon king. All monsters have their powers determined at birth. So is the amount of magical energy they can hold……”

“Is it because of your Authority?”

“Kuhu. Guess your race are quick on the uptake. That’s right. Thanks to the Immortal’s Authority, I have made it this far. My first death and kill activated it. I wouldn’t lose to any attacks, and I was able to retaliate against my foes after reviving. However, that wasn’t enough….. Even with my undying body, if my capacity for holding magical energy was low, I would be cursed to live an eternity as one of the weakest creatures.”

“Then, perhaps…”

“That’s right. The monsters that I kill, I can take all their magical energies.”

“So why are you telling me this?”

Belkoseu was far more dangerous that I thought he’d be.

Right now, the conditions required for his growth was not met, but he had enough latent potential to take the title of demon king easily.

Not only immortal, but he had an infinite capacity for growth.

However, to become stronger, he would need strong monsters as sacrifices for him.

For example, those monsters would need to be strong as Zekill or Berdan.

From what I heard from Belkoseu, I assumed that his offensive capability was pathetic at best.

It would make sense, since if he was only able to reach this far with an ability like that, then his attacks had to be weak.

That must be the reason why he wanted to trade with me.

With immortality and a lacking offensive capability, he would be stuck as a weakling for eternity.

With his eyes glued to me, he continued to speak.

“I’ll be straightforward.”

“Yeah. No one likes being overly complicated.”

“Human, become my ally. Obtain what you wish from me.”

“What I want….. The eradication of monsters in the human realm, right?”

“Didn’t you say that’s what you were fighting for? If I become the demon king, I shall do just that.”

“Hm…… Then what do you want in return?”

“I’m glad that we’re on the same page. I want your strength. Use your strength to bring me powerful magical energies, so that I can absorb it. If you do so, I shall defeat Ladin and Jamon that you cannot defeat.”

“I have only taken down the Lich King. You’re judging my powers based off of that?”

“Pfft. You know humility, human. However, how will you explain the magical energy flowing within you? As I said before, I can sense the magical energies of Zekill and Berdan. To put it shortly, it means that you defeated them.”

“The ability for monsters to read magical energies is quite annoying. To think that my lie would be exposed so quickly. So, you need my strength?”

“That’s right.”

“You know how you told me to gather magical energies into you?”

“……”

“What exactly do you mean by that? Do you want me to bring monsters like the Lich King to you?”

“With monsters weak as that, it’s hard to anticipate much growth for me……”

“Then?”

“What I need are monsters born into the fate of becoming the chiefs. Even now, many are being born, and I need their strength…..”

“So you’re not interested in other monsters?”

“That’s right. I think I understand what you’re trying to ask me. When I first saw you, I found one thing amusing.”

“…….”

“Something poured out from the Lich King’s defeat. And it seemed that whatever came out, it was precious enough for you to have your servant rush collecting the items in question.”

“As with your astute observations, I admit that that is one reason why I am agreeing to become allies.”

“The items that pour out only do so if monsters are killed by humans, right?”

“Ha…… You’re sharper than I thought. Seems I’ll need to keep my mouth shut.”

“I shall promise that as well. It doesn’t take much effort to summon monsters of that ranking. Whenever you want and as much as you want, you can kill them to your liking.”

“Good. However …”

“Hm…?”

“You already know how strong I am, but I don’t know how strong you are, right? I understand that you have an Authority that prevents your death. But how about you strength? Don’t you need to show me how strong you are? I can get artifacts from hunting, so there isn’t a reason to just feed you as you wish. I heard that this is how trading is supposed to work.”

“Pfft. Are you telling me to show my strength? Seems the trade is halfway done.”

“Well, you can say that, I guess.”

“Then I shall show you. Come. Give me all you got!”

“I haven’t done any practice fighting before. It could become as dangerous as real fight, ok? So make sure to not die. Don’t regret for not listening to me.”

“Kuhahat! Sure, I shall keep that in mind.”

Finishing our chat, he stopped crossing his arms and prepared to fight.

His eyes that were calm like the still surface of a lake turned into that of a prowling hunter.

It was the same with me. I didn’t have any plans of giving him leeway.

If it was possible to kill him now, I had to do so.

His offer was tempting, but helping him was akin to raising a tiger cub.

Belkoseu wanted magical energies.

Not high ranking monsters like the Lich King and such, but he wanted the magical energies of monsters with the potential of becoming leaders of their race.

I had more than enough strength to take down Berdan, so it was easily doable.

He said that he would rise to the rank of demon king and wanted to take control over the demonic realm and its monsters.

After that, he promised to get rid of monsters appearing on Earth once and for all.

However, who in their right mind would just go ahead and believe that?

I just needed him to trust me for a bit and use him as needed.

If it went as I planned, I would gain a great amount of benefits.

I would be able to obtain a vast amount of artifacts and jewels easily and without having to run around searching for monsters.

And even while I delivered him magical energies to feast on, I would be using Karin to keep tabs on his magical energy levels.

I could not stand by idly and let him grow to a point where I could no longer handle him.

Belkoseu spoke once more.

“What are you doing? Did you say that you wanted to test out my strength?”

“Rightly so……”

“Give me all you got. We don’t want to take too long and risk having the Demon King and Ladin show up to interrupt us.”

“Right. Then let’s…..”

‘Magic resistant? Physical resistance? He probably has one at least.’

I needed to find out which one he was resistant to.

I decided to open up with a physical based attack.

Casting Piercing Sword, I held tightly onto the Butcher’s Sword.

I casted Mana Shield, Reflect Shield, and Iron Skin as well.

I expected his attacks to be pathetic at best, but I needed to stay on the side of caution.

A vast amount of swords with a glowing red aura floated behind me.

Letting out great amounts of killing intent, they seemed to wait for my command.

Strong gusts of wind began to blow around Belkoseu.

I had casted Typhoon Wheel.

He was trapped within a whirlwind of razor sharp winds, spinning at an incredible speed.

With that much rotational force coupled with Piercing Sword, most monsters would instantly perish.

I was already at my limit on how many skills I could cast at once, but he would also have to take on my sword swing backed up by 3 million worth of strength stats.

Running towards him, I let forth a wave of swords behind me rush forwards.

Moving at an incredible speed, all the swords hit him directly.

Typhoon Wheel was also causing constant damage with its razor sharp winds.

While the winds were ripping him apart, I continued my assault.

-Clang!

“Damn….”

“I told you to give it your all……”

My sword was stopped by his armor.

It didn’t even pierce his body and had been stopped dead in its tracks.

Piercing Sword and Typhoon Wheel were meeting similar results.

Chipping away at his armor and cape, both attacks had failed to do any real damage to him.

Kicking him, I retreated backwards to make distant between us.

Realizing that physical attacks didn’t work, I had to make space for my next attempt.

After receiving my first attempt at attacking, he stood there with a relaxed smug grin.

It was to be expected, since he had received my first volley of flashy attacks without taking any damage.

Tossing the cape that had been shredded into a rag, he spoke to me.

“Not sure what happened there. Your attack had no effect on me. The only thing it did was to damage this cape.”

“Physical attack resistance?”

“Hm? Do humans have a lot of limitations in their attacks….”

“Are you beginning to doubt my skills?”

“Pftt. It’s too early to do so. I know you have more attacks to show.”

“You know it. It won’t end with just your cape this time, so you better be ready.”

“I look forward to it.”

My main spell, Meteor, filled the sky.

6 meteors bathed in intense black flames flew down from the sky.

I threw them at him, along with Chain Explosion and Fire Shock at the same time with my two free hands, charging at him.

That’s right. I threw my body towards him, where the meteors would land.

The meteors would deal an insane amount of damage, but as long as my Mana Shield was on, I wouldn’t take any damage from it.

The moment that Meteor struck him, Fire shock followed suit.

And Chain Explosion caused explosions of various elements to come forth from my body towards him.

With my best combination of an attack hitting him, he began to croak out a pained moan.

With these attacking working on him, it confirmed that he only had resistances against physical attacks.

“Kuhack! KUWA!”

“I told you. Told you to prepare yourself.”

“Kuughk….”

140. His Loot Drops

The sound of jewels spilling out was music to my ears.

It brought me joy far beyond that of obtaining bloodstones.

Within the pile were jewels, accessories and skill books as well as weapons and armors.

Now, if those artifacts were equal or greater in stats than the equipment I was wearing, I would be able to taste the bitterness of the incredibly low success rate the jewels have for enhancement.

What was important right now was to decide which of us got what equipment.

Jong Ho and I had the same expression as we looked at the pile of loot.

It was the equivalent of children looking at their own cotton candies being made in front of them.

Hoping for my expectations to become a reality, I used Eye of Insight.

The information on the artifacts were revealed to me, but the thing that I was completely enthralled by were the jewels.

It was important to use them up first.

I urgently called Karin.

“Karin.”

“Kel?”

“Jong Ho hyung and I cannot touch these items yet, you know?”

“Keru.”

“So can you organize them?”

“Keru. I’m doing this only because we’re family.”

“But why is this goblin constantly going on about family all of a sudden?”

“Dunno. Aren’t we family though? We share meals together.”

“I mean, that’s true….. Still, it bothers me. I’m aware, but calling us his family? I don’t think he needs to keep saying that.”

“Just let him be. It’s cute.”

“Well…. Okay.”

“Kerurururu. As I had hoped for, family understands one another. Right, family?”

“Okay. I understand, so could you hurry. You can see it in Jong Ho hyung-nim’s eyes. See how impatient he is?”

“Keheh. I get it. I’ll be done quick.”

Karin moved quickly, as if he was very excited.

His small hands easily hefted up the giant artifacts.

The Awakened cannot lift weapons or armor if they lack the stats to equip them in the first place.

Forget equipping them, as this meant they couldn’t even pick up the loot.

However, it seemed that for a monster like Karin, that rule did not apply.

This meant that he could lift equipments regardless of what stat requirements they carried with ease.

I began to carefully look through the equipment that Karin was sorting out.

As I did, I made sure to note those that would be particularly useful on Jong Ho.

There were a few items in view that made me grin with anticipation.

Jong Ho merely watched my expression.

He must be predicting what the results were from my expressions.

From how pleased I was, he probably guessed that at least a few useful items did drop.

Karin, who wiped his sweat away after finishing the sorting process, spoke.

“Kehel. All done. Is this what you wanted?”

“Yep. Good work, Karin. I’ll get the fire started so that you can have your steak.”

“Kerut. No, family eats together. That’s what I saw at Min-Cheol’s house.”

“…..”

“See, I told you? Despite being annoying at times, he’s really hard to dislike.”

“I see now. Please wait for just a bit, Karin.”

“Kel. Don’t worry about me and check the drops. I noticed that Jong Ho was drooling at them before.”

“Ahem… Did anything good drop, Min-Cheol?”

“Yes, though it seems you already expected it so?”

“I got it all from staring at your expressions.”

“Firstly, I’ll identify the items that I think would be useful to you.”

“This identifying procedure always makes me tense….”

“You weren’t like this back on Earth though.”

“Back then…. The situation wasn’t this dire back then.”

“True. First, the ring over there.”

“This?”

“Yes.”

Jong Ho only picked up the items I pointed out with the utmost caution.

After all, if he accidentally picked up the wrong items, it would bind to him and become useless to me.

Jong Ho’s weapons and armor were sufficient enough already, but it was true that I neglected on getting him decent accessories.

It was because of a lack of time to prepare due to the deadline that required us to go into the demonic realm.

“Hyung-nim, what are the attributes on the accessories you have equipped at the moment?”

“Balrock’s ring…… The ring of revival that mother gave me is gone…… Other than that, nothing much of note, really.”

“I should’ve also taken better care of you in that department as well.”

“I really didn’t think much of it too, so don’t worry. But what are the attributes on this new ring?”

“It doesn’t have special effects like the Balrock’s ring, but it does raise your stats up, so try it on first.”

“Ok.”

Jong Ho took off the ring that he was wearing and replaced it with the new ring that I had pointed out.

To check out his status window, he stared into thin air.

I wished that I could see his status window as well, but this was something that you couldn’t show to others.

Only the Awakened could see their own status windows.

Jong Ho’s expression changed to that of a small smirk.

The ring that I had given him was one that raised the mana stat.

“It’s a mana ring?”

“Yes. There’s nothing as important as defense. And to keep your defenses up, you need to keep casting defensive spells. You know firsthand from fighting against the Demon King and Ladin.”

“Wew. Thanks for calling it a fight. It was more of a one-sided defeat though.”

“Well, it won’t be like that anymore. For now, I think you should be equipping that.”

“Hm… Right. It’s true that I do need mana.”

“You don’t seem that happy with it though? Did you want something specifically? Seems I’m on right on the money. Tell me what you want.”

“No. It’s true that you need mana to use shields and defensive skills.”

“Hey, why are you acting like that? Both of us can’t lie to save our hides. I can tell right now that you aren’t being honest, so go ahead and tell me what’s up.”

I could tell from just looking at his expression that he wanted something else.

Was it because the ring had no special effect attached to it?

Or perhaps he wanted a different stat on his ring?

My query didn’t last long, as Jong Ho stuttered before speaking up.

“No. I really like this ring. However…..”

“I knew it. There really was something.”

“I want to… change my weapon.”

“Your weapon?”

“Yeah. It is a weapon that gives me the most amount of mana stats, but…..”

“You’re saying that you lack physical attack skills, and the staff or wand have a short reach and isn’t suited for melee combat, right?”

“Yep…. That’s right.”

“I think I understand what you mean. For now though, we have to get your accessories sorted out. I think those bracelets in front of Karin will suit you as well.”

“Does this also raise my mana?”

“Yes. If you want to change your weapon, you’ll have to find a way to make up for all the mana stats you’ll be losing out due to the change, right?”

“That’s right.”

“If you wear these two and the necklace over there, you should be able to obtain more magic stat points than what you were getting from your wand.”

“Oho…. Okay. I’m hoping for a warrior class type weapon with the stats of a magic weapon……”

“Should I summon the blacksmith? It’s the demonic realm here, hyung-nim.”

“No, I’m just saying.”

Just like that, Jong Ho put on the accessories on his hands and neck.

Due to the equipment being merely of decent quality, he didn’t get that much of a stat gain.

The mana stat he gained from the accessories were better than the wand, but it wasn’t as good as the staff.

After equipping the accessory, his eyes lit up with life.

His expression seemed to ask for his new weapon.

“Since the accessories don’t have special abilities attached to them, it doesn’t seem like something that you should keep. But you should still use it until something better drops.”

“Yep, yep. So about the weapon? The sword?”

“It’s not a sword you’d like…..”

“Don’t play it down and hurry up!”

“It’s over there. Pijan’s Lightning Sword.”

There were 3 swords at the location where Karin had gathered the weapons together.

Each varied in size and shape, and their attributes matched their variety.

Since they were all weapons that bound on touch, the attributes on the swords were far beyond what the average Awakened could even dream of.

Jong Ho headed to the sky blue sword that I pointed out.

“Is this it?”

“Yes. That thin sword is the one.”

Jong Ho picked up Pijan’s Lightning Sword as soon as I told him.

It was a sky blue sword with the cutting edge of the sword being only 5cm.

The shape was simple, but because it had a special effect attached to it, it seemed quite useful.

Checking the attributes of the weapon, he became lively once more.

-Pijan’s Lightning Sword-

*Strength +1000

*7% of total strength increased.

*One-handed.

*Deals electric based damage.

*After absorbing a certain amount of magical energy, deals an empowered double damage attack. (30 second duration.)

“I can deal electric based attacks……”

“Yes. Looks like a type of enchantment?”

“Enchant? Can I use it, even if I’m a warrior class?”

“Why not try giving it a swing? It seems that the electric enchant is inherently built into the weapon.”

“Hm……”

“Oho?”

Swinging his sword at thin air, an effect that seemed as if an electric spell was casted followed.

Enchants were a way to add in magical attacks onto a physical damage based weapons.

It wasn’t used in high level dungeons where the mobs had high resistance against magical attacks, but it was used commonly in low level dungeons.

However, this was the demonic realm.

Almost all the monsters here have resistances.

That’s why the effect wasn’t that useful.

“Looks pretty. Not very practical though.”

“I really like the attributes on it though? I can think of it as worth half your Butcher’s Sword.”

“Yes. I was somewhat surprised as well. Must be quite the high ranking weapon.”

“Yeah. However, what about the special effect on it.….”

“I know it well, since I’ve used that special effect lots before.”

“Hm? You’ve used this sword before?”

“No. However…..”

I quietly touched the Louver’s Bracelet on my wrist.

It was one of the three items that completed a set, and could only be obtained by defeating reaper Louver.

No attributes were attached to it, but the one special effect on it was identical to Jong Ho’s sword.

It was a special effect that changed absorbed magical energy into an offensive capability.

However, that sword’s special ability was far superior to that of my bracelet.

Unlike the bracelet, which empowered one magical spell cast, the special ability on the sword lasted for 30 seconds and empowered any attack that was made with the sword.

It was a weapon that served well in filling the lack of strength stats that Jong Ho had.

And this was the demonic realm.

The magical energy that the sword wanted was found everywhere in the demonic realm, and the monsters that were found commonplace around this realm were saturated with the magical energies.

There wasn’t a better place than here for the conditions requiring the item to activate its special ability.

Jong Ho, who had been staring at the sword intensely, spoke.

“An enhanced attack….”

“It won’t affect the skills from the Balrock’s ring, but it will work on the skills and attacks you use.”

“Okay. I’ll confirm the effects in a bit. Is there anything you get from this?”

“Yes. There really isn’t an artifact that I could use.”

“What…. It doesn’t match the expression you had when you looked at the loot though? I thought something amazing had dropped and had my hopes up.”

“There isn’t any artifacts for me…… but there is something else.”

“Oh! Really? What is it?”

“You’ll know when you see it.”

I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 141

Previous Chapter|Index|Next Chapter

141. Eternal Jewel Master

As soon as I finished talking, I walked towards where the skill books were.

The skill books’ ranking were low for a Lich King’s drop.

However, there was a skill book in that pile that we desperately needed right now.

It was a skill that we’ve never seen or heard of back on Earth.

Jong Ho stared at me, unable to hold back his curiosity.

“Did any good skill books drop?”

“Yes.”

“Oh? Offensive spells? Shields? Perhaps a skill beyond ranking?”

“No, it’s not that good. It’s recovery. However, it’s not something specifically for us.”

“Huh? Who’s going to use it?”

“Over there, on the ones guarding the place outside.”

“Hm? That doesn’t make sense? You can’t use recovery spells on monsters. It doesn’t affect them.”

“Not on monsters, summoned creatures. It looks like a healing spell for summoned creatures dropped.”

“Is it a summoner class skill? As I said before, I don’t know that much about the summoner class.”

“Yes. Thankfully it’s not class restricted. It looks like as long as you have the mana, any class can use it.”

“Do you think that it would be effective?”

“…..”

“Think about it. The Devil Avatars and King Suwoo have grown to their limits already. This includes both their health and their offensive abilities.”

“Of course, they’ve reached level 200.”

“Right. However, the skill that they’re learning is only level 1. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it will help a little. But we shouldn’t expect much. I guess it’s like trying to fill a massive pool using a bucket.”

“As expected from you, but what if the skill recovers as much as the amount of mana I have?”

“What?”

“That’s why I was smirking before.”

“…..”

Without any hesitation, I put the skill book on my chest.

The skill book made a sound as if it was burning away before being absorbed into my chest.

The skill was obtained and the skill window had a new skill called Full Heal.

This was a skill that only healed summoned creatures, not Awakened, and its ability was healing as much as the amount of mana the caster had.

This meant that if someone like me who has infinite mana casts it, the summoned creatures would never run out of health.

The one thing that disappointed me was that it needed to be channeled.

Thanks to the dual casting passive, I can cast up to 3 spells at once. This meant that I had to invest one of the three slots.

Similar to my mana shield, that is.

However, this wasn’t an issue for us.

While we left the Gate for 6 hours at a time, if I healed them once in between that time, the summoned creatures would have no problem defending this place.

After absorbing the skill book, I spoke to Jong Ho.

“Hyung-nim, grab one of the two swords left.”

“Yup.”

“And then enhance it.”

“Enhance?”

“Yes. Just grab it to bind it to you. And all you have to do is put it next to the sword you’re going to use.”

“…..”

“Attributes of weapons will naturally be absorbed into the Pijan’s Lightning Sword.”

“But what if the Lightning Sword’s attribute gets transferred to another sword?”

“That won’t happen. Attributes only move from weaker weapons to stronger weapons. All the swords that I’ve seen had lower attributes than the Lightning Sword.”

“Is that so…..? What about the other sword?”

“I’ll just pick up random equipment and we’ll be applying jewels on them. So hyung-nim should focus on enhancing them.”

“Okay, I got it.”

“Karin, what do you want to do now?”

“Hm….. Just watch, goblins can’t use jewels. Kel….. I’m going to make a meal for my family!”

“Oh. That’s great.”

“Kerurururu.”

****

“Man, I’ve burned through the night oil…..”

“Min-Cheol, how did you succeed twice before?”

“I’m wondering the same thing. I didn’t know it was that bad…..”

“In the middle of it, I felt like killing something.”

“Me too…..”

“Keruk? Are you guys done? Hurry up and eat the steak.”

“It’ll be a gloomy dinner.”

There were countless jewels that dropped from the Lich King.

We spent two hours applying them on various artifacts.

However, the results were pathetic at best.

We did not gain anything of worth.

A lot of jewels that boosted magic energy dropped, but none of them succeeded in enhancing the gear.

Instead, it destroyed the gears.

Perhaps it has to do with how the demonic realm has a lower drop rate than Earth?

Also, the success rate of using the jewels were incredibly low.

The Eye of Insight showed that it had a 10% chance of succeeding, just like the jewels we obtained on Earth.

However, it felt like the success rate was 0.0001%.

The only thing we gained from taking down the Lich King was the Lightning Sword and one skill book.

It felt like we should collect the jewels from now on and use it when we return to Earth.

I asked Karin who was viciously tearing into the steak.

“Karin.”

“Keruru?”

“This is something that just occurred to me…..”

“What is it?”

“Can’t we just go through the Gate back to Earth? Kind of like how we’d go back home after a long day’s work?”

“Kel…..”

“Now that I think about it, that’s right. This Gate is connected to Yangpyeong.”

“I know, right? Why are we two dudes and a monster eating shabby food like this?”

“You can’t do that!”

“Why? The monsters seem to go through just fine?”

“Look at the number of monsters, aren’t there a lot?”

“Of course, this is the demonic realm after all…..”

“Not all of them are heading for Earth.”

“…..”

“There is a low chance that you can fall off the path.”

“What do you mean ‘fall off’? Are you saying that we can fall into another dimension?”

“You can get trapped in the cracks in the dimensions. It’s not the overworld, afterworld, Earth, or demonic realm. You can get isolated in another dimension.”

“…..”

“Why are you only telling us this now? What if we entered it without a thought?”

“Kel…..”

“So you’re telling me that the only way we can return is to kill the demon king?”

“That’s right. If it was any other human, I would have told them to go through it….. However, I can’t let the two of you do that.”

“I understand.”

“I was hoping for something good to drop. Now I’m frustrated.”

“Oh well, we can’t help it. I guess we’ll have to stake our hopes on Belkoseu.”

“You said that you’ll visit him in a few days?”

“Yes. Karin remembers his magical signature, so it should not be that difficult to meet up with him.”

“That’s right. I remember! Belkoseu’s magical signature!”

“Min-Cheol, are you sure about this?”

“Yes….. I’m as positive as when hyung-nim charged Berdan. We won’t be able to defeat him with magical energy, but I’m sure that we can bring him to his knees using Awakened attacks.”

“…..”

“You don’t have to worry about a thing. If something goes wrong, you can run away.”

“Even so…..”

“For now, let us rest near the Gate. We’ll leave tomorrow.”

“Got it.”

“Ah. And since we need guidance from Karin, follow me partway.”

“What. Are you planning to go alone?”

“Yes. I think that would be for the best.”

“…….”

“It’s easier for a single person to escape rather than two or three. And we can only use Status Denial once every 24 hours.”

“Hm…..”

“Chances. I’m betting on better chances like you always talked about. You understand, right?”

“Yeah, do as you see fit. So I just need to stay near here with Karin, right?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Keruu…. Human, he is not your average monsters. If it gets dangerous, escape immediately.”

“Got it.”

****

I had hoped that we would speed up on growing stronger after defeating the Lich King, but the results were less than satisfactory.

With the Gate as the anchor, we continued to hunt.

The area covered wasn’t large, but there were plenty of monsters about.

The effect of Full Heal that I’ve obtained was far greater than what I had expected.

An aura appeared around the creatures I’ve summoned, rapidly healing them.

As expected, it did not heal the monsters.

It only worked on the creatures that I’ve summoned.

If I get used to using this spell, I should be able to lessen my worries about holding the Gate.

And if it becomes so, I should be able to hunt further away from the Gate.

Instead of just staying tethered near the Gate, I should be able to visit all the good locations in the demonic realm for farming monsters with the guidance of Karin.

With the Devil Avatars and King Suwoo confidently holding their ground, it should be possible.

“What about the Warp cooldown?”

“Haven’t used it in the last two days. It’s good to go.”

“Haven’t forgotten anything?”

“Telling me that you love me?”

“Get bent. And don’t get hurt. Take the Warp right away if you sense anything that’s off.”

“Love you too.”

“Get outta here. Go.”

“Human….. I’ll be waiting with Jong Ho. Please come back safe. Lov…..”

“Stop! Go ahead and ration the steak. I’ll be back before the watch on Jong Ho’s wrist points 12, okay?”

“Kerut. I got it.”

I ran towards the direction that Karin pointed me towards.

At the end should be Belkoseu.

Thankfully, both Ladin and Jamon were far away from here.

However, despite the massive distance, with their speeds it shouldn’t take that long for them to get here.

That’s why it was important for my fight with Belkoseu to be as short as possible and equally decisive in victory.

In the plains where not a single rock could be found stood Belkoseu.

As if he had been waiting for me, he turned to face me, holding his ground.

I walked towards where he was.

“Kuhu. Humans are amusing creatures. To think that you’d come on your own volition to your own death.”

“You saw, right? Karin. He keeps his promises, even if it kills him. It seems I’m becoming like him.”

“What is the reason behind your confidence to be able to come? Do you think that your different types of attacks can take me down?”

“Yep. It seemed to me that the chances were high.”

“You’re a reckless fool.”

“I hear that a lot. Shall we start then? Don’t worry about the demon king. He’s quite far away.”

“Hm….”

Belkoseu hesitated for a bit.

It seemed that he was thinking about something.

I was a bit taken back by what he said next.

“What is it that you want?”

“……”

“For what reason is it that you take down monsters such as I is what I ask.”

“That’s simple. If we don’t kill you, our homeworld gets destroyed.”

“You’re not trying to become the demon king that rules the demonic realm? You do not wish to rule over all the monsters?”

“Not really interested. I’m just tired of seeing you monsters invading Earth.”

“…..”

“Now, enough pointless chatter. Let’s begin.”

“Wait. Let me make an offer.”

“Oh? Trying to trade when you’re nothing but a monster? Let me hear you out.”

“You definitely said that you have no interest in being the demon king, right?”

“Yep.”

“You just want monsters to stop invading the human realm.”

“Yep. You’re a lot smarter than I thought.”

“If that’s the case……”

Belkoseu began to make an offer that I didn’t even consider.

To think that a deal between a monster and a human would form.

It was a shocking development, but it felt as though I could use him.

Since I did not have a 100% guarantee that I could defeat him, this offer had me intrigued as well.

Is this how I would get another friend in the demonic realm?

I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 139

Previous Chapter|Index|Next Chapter

139. The Lich King of the Demonic Realm

Carrying Karin and the duffel bag with our food inside, I ran as fast as I could towards the location that Jong Ho and I had agreed to rendezvous at.

Not much time had passed since I left Belkoseu behind me that the sounds of a massive explosion rang out.

Noticing the intensity of the tremor and sound, it definitely wasn’t the result of fighting between any regular monsters.

Since the Demon King Jamon and Belkoseu had met one another, I assumed that Belkoseu was getting in the way of the Demon King tracking me.

Is this what it’s like to solve a problem with another? Using my enemy to fight against another enemy, like so.

This saying fits the situation perfectly.

I was using a monster to hold off another monster after all.

Belkoseu was confident in his strength and his body that was impervious to death.

That was why he believes that I won’t be able to defeat him.

His arrogance was working in my favor.

It was possible that he was right.

It was my conclusion that I could defeat him with skills used by humans.

However, right now, the answer to that question was not that important.

Despite being unkillable, it was obvious that Belkoseu was in a lower position than the Demon King.

That’s why he was afraid and made a temporary alliance, because the Demon King would kill me and take the magical energy I possessed.

Assisting my escape, he planned to meet with me later on.

All I have to do is to use his plan to my advantage.

“Karin? How is it? Are we getting away from their magical energy signatures?”

“Kehruu. Correct. I can faintly sense their magical energies now. I’m sure that we’ve gotten very far away from them.”

“Guess Belkoseu is stopping them in their tracks pretty well.”

“Kehheh. It seems so.”

Karin’s expression softened away from a fearful look, and his face returned back to his usual look.

As I continued my run, Karin spoke.

“Human. Min-Cheol!”

“Hm?”

“I believe that sticking with you and Jong Ho is the path to staying alive.”

“Of course. The demonic realm is far too dangerous for a Puppet Goblin to survive, no?”

“Kel. Kel. You’re right. However……”

“Hm?”

“Do we have to continue encountering near death situations like these?”

“Pfft. Why? Isn’t it fun and thrilling?”

“Keruk….  For me, who lived a peaceful life, these events are beyond my ability to adapt to. We’ve met the Demon King. Then we meet with Belkoseu and the Lich King…… At this rate, it feels like we’re going to meet a god!”

“Hey. No matter how dangerous it gets, we’ll protect you.”

“Keheheh…. I’m…. touched….”

“What will we eat if you’re gone? I can’t put that rotten monster meat anywhere near my mouth.”

“Kehruu…. You really do think of me as a food storage…..”

Immediately did Karin’s wrinkles increase severely.

It was a look of great sadness and depression.

It seemed that he thought of himself as a mere luggage carrier.

However, he was far more important than just a luggage carrier.

Without him, we would be in the dark in the demonic realm.

If we didn’t have Karin, we might have been done in by the Demon King and Ladin by now.

After all, the ability to read the flow of magical energy was a skill that we desperately needed.

And the most important thing.

Despite his appearance, he was actually very cute.

“You’re someone I can talk to, you serve as a guide, and you’re a goblin that can read the flow of magical energies….. On top of that, you keep store of our food supply. How can we hate you? At this point, we’re family. Don’t you think so?”

“Keruk. Keruruk. Right? Kelkelkel! Family…. Family…..”

“Don’t be sad. Just as you care for us, we care for you too.”

“Karin isn’t sad. I was never sad.”

“Look at how quickly his mood changed. I’m glad. Hold onto the duffel bag filled with the artifacts tightly so that they don’t make contact with me. I’m going to start running faster.”

“Kel! Do not worry! Family!”

“Pfft. Yeah. We just have to go this way, right?”

“That’s right. Family! Let’s go. Family!”

“Yep, family. Here we go!”

****

Jong Ho, who had parted ways with Min-Cheol , arrived near the Gate safely using Warp.

Despite only being gone for 6 hours, many monsters were gathered.

The Devil Avatars and King Suwoo that Min-Cheol had summoned were in quite the state.

Their embers of life were barely there, guarding as no more than symbols.

They were barely holding onto their lives.

If he arrived any later, the summoned creatures would perish and countless monsters would have entered through the Gate.

Jong Ho immediately casted skills into the charging horde.

“KUWEHEH!”

“KUAHAH!”

With Min-Cheol’s skill level and 20% increase in magical power, as well as the Archangel’s Fall effect, magic fell upon these creatures.

Almost as if using a strainer, all the monsters without magical resistances immediately perished.

It appeared as though a meteor had fallen on a planet, with half the horde being annihilated without a trace left.

The rest of the horde must have magical resistances.

The ones left were the ones that ignored magical attacks and were only vulnerable to physical attacks.

Jong Ho casted Piercing Sword.

Nearly a thousand weapons appeared behind him.

They would move to his will, piercing through the monsters before returning.

However, the weapons summoned were staves and wands.

Due to the skill adapted to the class of the caster, the weapons summoned weren’t meant to cut, but were magician class weapons consisting of staves and wands.

However, since this skill was backed by Min-Cheol’s strength stat, it would be more than enough to annihilate these creatures.

“Hm…..”

However, he was lacking in the physical attack skill department.

The Formless Sword Aura had to strike an enemy once before the effect of the target not being able to sense the second strike activating.

Staves and wands, due to their size and their intended purposes, weren’t suited to use physical attacks with.

That’s why Jong Ho was disappointed.

He wanted a way to get two birds with one stone.

Even if he had put his stats similar to how a regular warrior put their stats, it wouldn’t cause much of a difference to his current situation.

The only difference would be that the fate of those monsters before him and those that perished would have changed somewhat.

With that in mind, Jong Ho continued his attack.

At his will, staves and wands flew towards the horde.

The weapons weren’t sharp as swords, but they pierced their targets without issue.

The damage they dealt weren’t as strong as the magic that they could discharge, but for this situation, it was more than enough.

Like a knife to tofu, the monsters were being cut apart.

“KUUEK! KWUH……”

“Despite not looking like much, the damage they deal is still noteworthy.”

“KUWEK!”

It happened a little after he had taken care of the monsters nearby.

All he had to do was head for the location they had agreed to meet up at.

The summoned creatures would recover their health, and they would be able to hold their own against the waves of monsters.

By cycling every 6 hours, it was a perfect method to defend the Gate.

It was then.

Jong Ho instinctively lowered his body to the ground and looked around.

He could hear sounds of massive explosions getting closer.

He knew that he could not avoid the eyes of the Demon King and Ladin using Mass Stealth Jutsu, so he quickly hid in the part of the terrain that would give him cover.

At this speed, he knew that no matter how fast he tried to run, he would be caught up to soon.

He quietly stayed crouched.

“Damn it…. Who is coming this way….”

Since he was already done in by the Demon King and Ladin once, his uncertainty amplified.

Min-Cheol must be far away from here.

And on top of that, there wasn’t any reason for him to come here.

There was a chance that the Demon King was near Min-Cheol, but he had Karin who could sense the Demon King.

Holding his breath, he surveyed the scene.

A breath of relief washed over him.

“Ha……..”

Karin and Min-Cheol had arrived.

They looked like a beginner dad carrying his son and a bunch of childcare supplies on his back.

Jong Ho calmed himself before approaching Min-Cheol.

“Hey. Min-Cheol. Why did you suddenly come back here?”

“I guess you’re done cleaning up the place?”

“Uh….. Is the Demon King near or something?”

“Yes. Well, the Demon King and Ladin are nearby. Also there is the matter with Belkoseu.”

“Belkoseu? I can’t understand what you’re saying.”

“I’ll explain slowly. First, let’s go to Berdan’s castle. We have things to check up on inside.”

“Alright. Let’s do that.”

****

“Keheh…. Jong Ho family! It was very dangerous. Family!”

“Is that so? What happened out there that you’re acting like this? And what is this about family?”

“Kel. Family is family.”

“What is he saying…. Min-Cheol, please explain to me.”

“Family is family.”

“Hey damn it!”

“Pfft. We met a guy named Belkoseu. Apparently he is known as the Immortal Knight in the demonic realm.”

“Belkoseu……”

“Yes. Thankfully, we joined forces in a way that really wasn’t, so it won’t last long.”

“Joined forces? So you didn’t run away because of him is what you’re saying.”

“Yes. Belkoseu and the Lich King were together. And on top of that, the Demon King and Ladin were coming to our location.”

“The Lich King? The one that I’m thinking of?”

“Yes. Only that he shrunk in size, but he was the same as the one back on Earth.”

“So, what happened after?”

“I took down the Lich King and as you can see…..”

I pointed at the duffel bag that Karin was holding onto.

The duffel bag was far bigger than his body.

The entire bag was filled with artifacts and jewels.

After all, we had ignored the bloodstones and brought the real treasures.

“Oho…. All of that? Even Berdan didn’t drop anything, so to think that we’ve obtained this much.”

“Yes. It’s hard to believe, but it’s the truth.”

“Wow……. Well that’s that. What about this alliance?”

“From where we just left, Belkoseu and the Demon King must be going at it right now.”

“There is someone who can stand against him?”

“To be precise, he isn’t able to keep up in offensive capabilities, but I heard that he has a special Authority.”

“Kerut. That’s right. He cannot die. Family!”

“Cannot die……”

“Yes. It seemed that he wasn’t welcoming the idea of my magical energy being taken by the Demon King, so he helped me escape.”

“Oho. That’s quite fortunate.”

“Yes. And we’ll be visiting him soon.”

“Hm? Us? Are you talking about us?”

“That’s right.”

“So we’re going to go find this guy who cannot die…. Did I hear that correctly?”

“Yes. That’s also correct.”

“It’s happening again… Happening again.”

“People don’t change easily. For now, let’s check the loot. I’m not sure what’s in it, since Karin was the one who put them in. At least there are a ton of jewels that dropped.”

“I’m worried. Worried.”

“Karin, can you pour them out here?”

“Kelkel. Understood, family!”

I Never Run Out of Mana Chapter 138

Previous Chapter|Index|Next Chapter

138. Belkoseu and the Lich King. Also, Jamon.

As expected, the Lich King began to pour out magical attacks.

Only his form had shrunk, but the attack pattern was the same as the one I had encountered before.

It was good for me that he advanced at me with fierce attacks.

Even if his attacks reached me, the Roa’s Staff that I obtained from taking down Ghost would absorb all the magical attacks, so I would take no damage.

To be exact, the ability of Roa’s Staff that my Butcher’s Sword had absorbed was what would do the job.

It should be able to absorb any magical attacks without any issues.

Since it had previously eaten up my Transcended Meteor, it had proved its ability without a doubt.

The only downside was that there were only 88 charges left on it.

However, that shouldn’t be an issue either.

I wasn’t going to let the Lich King cast that many spells in the first place.

The only thing I would focus on would be to defend myself against attacks beyond ranking.

That Lich King was going to turn into a pile of ash before the charges on Roa’s Staff’s ability on my Butcher’s Sword would run out.

The Lich King stared me down with his red glowing eyes and let out a horrid roar.

“Kwuhuh……..”

“Kuhuhu. Are you only going to continue avoiding. Is this the attack that you were boasting to me about before? Pathetic. Hurry up and show me. Show me the reason why you did not kneel before the mighty Belkoseu!”

“There’s not much of a difference from the one I saw on Earth. I think magical attacks worked against it?”

“Hm? Another Lich King exists in a different dimension……. Monsters exist in another dimensions?”

“If you don’t know, just sit back and watch. I’ll began the show.”

“Arrogant…..”

“Ah! And you’ll be next, so make sure to hold onto your waiting list ticket. I’ll end this quickly and give you the attention you want so badly.”

My banter with Belkoseu didn’t last long.

The Lich King began his barrage of attacks.

Unlike before, he was creating a massive distance between us.

I wasn’t sure if he had used Teleport, because he had moved his body far away in a very short time.

However, the attack that he casted after left me speechless.

I stared at the sky blankly in shock.

The demonic realm’s sky was covered in his spells.

It was the Meteor skill. A giant one at that to boot.

I did expect the Lich King, also known as a archwizard, to be able to cast such a spell.

He used skills beyond ranking, so being able to cast Meteor was a given.

However, the Meteors falling down from above weren’t any ordinary Meteors.

Pitch black burning meteors fell from the sky. These Meteors were Awakened Meteors.

It was a skill that Awakened could learn after getting their Meteor skill to level 100, and then they had to use an Awakened Essence to upgrade it so.

However, I could not bring myself to understand how a monster was using a skill that I’ve only seen Awakened using.

I did not avoid his attacks.

I wanted to check for sure.

It could be a similar looking skill with a different effect after all.

Even if it was a skill that was beyond ranking, it didn’t matter.

No matter what, it could not deal damage to me.

After hitting center mass on my Mana Shield, the shield shook madly.

Looking at how much my shield shook, I could confirm that this really was an Awakened Meteor.

Even though I had casted it countless times myself, I didn’t recognize it right away.

From what I had noticed, out of all the monsters out there, only the Lich King seemed to learn skills, and on top of that, he could Awaken them.

I had many questions to ask, but this wasn’t the time to ponder about them.

I had scouted enough.

I was sure, no, I was absolutely positive that this monster would drop something good.

The Lich King had made quite the distance to cast Meteor.

However, Glacial Field was enough to cover that distance.

The floor froze, and he began to take damage from the cold.

Even the monsters that roamed about without a direction were caught up as collateral damage.

“Kwuhuh!”

“It’s still just the refrigerator. You’ll soon go to the freezer.”

It used Teleport to try to get away from Glacial Field’s range.

However, no matter how far he fled, he was dancing on the palm of my hand.

A simple leap allowed me to get close without much difficulty.

After all, there was no way that a mage could outmaneuver a warrior.

Of course, technically speaking, I was a mage.

I cast down many Blizzard on his head.

Shards of ice as blue as the ocean began to rain down with massive speed onto him.

Due to it being an AoE attack, it was difficult to be accurate with it.

However, in a pouring rainstorm, how can one not be struck by a single drop of water.

The Blizzard that came down like rain hit his body.

“KUWUHUH!!”

“Still the refrigerator. There’s still more to go before you get sent to the freezer.”

It had barely blocked the mass of frozen rock with its shields, but this wasn’t the end.

The Blizzard skill’s attack still hadn’t finished yet.

Around me and him were shards of broken ice from the Blizzards.

Like the shrapnel of a bomb, the second part of the attack from Blizzard came.

His body was pierced all over by the shards of ice.

He let out an ear piercing howl and as he bled from all over his body.

Blizzard consisted of ice raining down first followed by the shards exploding outwards until it collides with the target, which could only be a description fitting of an S+ ranking attack spell.

The glow from the Lich King’s eyes blazed fiercer.

He must be incredibly furious.

However, I did not give him the opportunity to counterattack.

“Kuh…..uck!”

“I’m not sure if he has a mana bar or perhaps a cooldown to deal with because he has not cast the shield again.”

He was completely sealed off in the giant Iceberg.

The Iceberg that had reached level 300 crushed the Lich King’s form into a pathetic shamble.

Almost as if scattering a 10,000 piece puzzle, his body was scattered beyond recognition.

To the Lich King who was frozen completely and was unable to regenerate, I casted Blizzard once more.

Since Blizzard was a higher ranking spell, it pierced into the Iceberg and exploded.

Almost as if the bullets in a person’s body was exploding, it could deal massive amounts of damage to the enemy.

The red glow from his eyes faded, and he dropped a ton of bloodstones.

It wasn’t that difficult to kill the Lich King.

The moment that I walked towards the loot that the Lich King had dropped, I sensed Belkoseu moving.

However, I did not sense a killing intent behind his movements.

After getting close to me, he spoke.

“Amusing. A race from another realm, and on top of that an amusing show of skill.”

“Customer, you have to wait your turn. You can’t cut in line like this.”

“What?”

“Wew, don’t worry about it, just wait a bit. Don’t annoy me.”

“You little!”

“What? You little? Alright, I’ll take care of you right away. I’ll make an exception for you right now!”

“Ukk.”

It happened when I turned my body to face him.

I could hear Karin’s voice.

Despite him being far away, I could hear him clearly.

“Human! Min-Cheol! It’s the demon king! The demon king is coming! Ladin as well!”

“Damn it. Has he detected our scents? Why now of all times…?”

“What are you blabbering about? Come! Belkoseu will be your opponent!”

“Hey customer, it looks like I’ll have to serve you next time.”

“Ha! Are you afraid! Was all that just for show?”

“The demon king is coming. And he’s not alone, because he’s bringing along Ladin as well.”

“Is that true….. Hm……..”

Perhaps Belkoseu had felt their magical energy signatures as well, because he suddenly calmed down and was erring on the side of caution.

I spoke to him.

“You’ll be fine, even if they come, but isn’t it a different case for me?”

“What are you trying to get at.”

“Since you’re a monster too, you can see the magical energy that flows within me! Aren’t you interested in it?”

“……”

“If you keep me here, I could die and possibly give all this to those two. Do you understand now?”

“There is no way that I can lose out on your magical energy…. We’ll fight another time.”

“Finally, I got through to you. My goblin ally will remember your magical energy signature.”

“……..”

“I will find you a few days from now. Wait for me in a place as far away from the demon king and Ladin as possible. I’ll meet you there.”

“Pfft. Seems like quite the flimsy excuse to prolong your life.”

“Or you can let me get eaten up by the demon king. But you won’t do that since you have your own plans, right?”

“Kuha! An amusing race you lot are. So be it. I shall wait. However, if you think that you can save yourself by not coming, you best give up such false hopes. I shall find you myself personally.”

“Were you scammed in the demonic realm before or something? Why are you so doubtful? Whether you come or I go, you’ll be dead!”

“I’ll be looking forward to it……”

As soon as I finished, I ran straight to Karin.

Karin was hiding behind a rock while invisible.

If I didn’t use Eye of Insight, even I wouldn’t have been able to find him.

I spoke to him.

“Karin, get our stuff. We’re going to where hyung-nim is.”

“Kerut! Understood! Good call! I told you that fighting him is a bad idea!”

“What about the other two? How long will it take for them to get here?”

“Kehel. Roughly about 10 minutes in human time! They could get here even faster.”

“Okay. That’s plenty of time. But before that, the empty duffel bag.”

“Kel? H…..Here it is.”

“Hold on to me.”

“Kehel!”

After receiving the duffel bag from Karin, I went back to where Belkoseu was in order to pick up all the loot.

As expected, the Lich King wasn’t an ordinary monster.

I couldn’t help but be excited from the moment that I saw the Awakened Meteor, but to think that he dropped this many artifacts whereas Zekill and Berdan dropped nothing.

I ordered Karin to start putting them into the duffel bag.

“Take only the stones you want to eat, and throw away the rest.”

“Kel! The demon king is coming, so snacks are not an issue!”

“Oh. You’re pretty good at getting up to speed. Ignore the bloodstones, grab all the artifacts.”

“Keheheheh! Don’t talk to me. I’m busy! Busy!”

I simply looked at Karin toiling away.

It was because there was a chance that an artifact would become soul bound to me if I picked it up.

Since Karin realized that the demon king was coming, he moved quickly, and in less than 1 minute, it was all taken care of.

I couldn’t help but think of him as the number one guide for the demonic realm.

Belkoseu was silently observing us.

His appearance could put knights from the middle ages to shame.

With a cape on his back and armed to the teeth with metallic armor, it reminded me of an Awakened wearing full plate armor.

With him being 2m in height, it even made me wonder if he was actually a human being.

But who knows. There was a possibility that a head of lizard would pop out if I removed that helmet after all.

It didn’t seem that he would move, even though the news of the demon king’s arrival was heard.

As expected of the title he possessed, the undying knight.

The proof of him not dying to attacks by monsters was in his choice to stay here despite the announcement of the demon king’s approach.

Karin carried four duffel bags and urged me to hurry.

The 3 of them held all the meat he couldn’t live without, while the last one was filled with artifacts to the brim.

The weight of them should be quite a lot, but he did not complain as he hurried his little feet to work.

“Min-Cheol! Let’s go! Now!”

“Yeah, you did well. Let’s go.”

“We’ll see each other again, human.”

“Will do.”
